pingus -- new upstream version available

2007-08-28 Thread Fabian Greffrath
package: pingus
severity: wishlist

Hello!

Finally (after more than 4 years) the new upstream version 0.7 of Pingus
has been released. Please consider packaging it ASAP.

Games Team, maybe this is a case for you?
The latest maintainer activity has been 3 years ago with 4 NMUs in the
meantime and the package has still some (mostly trivial) bugs open.

Cheers,
Fabian

New version for Pingus

2007-08-28 Thread Lior Kaplan
Hi,

It seems that Pingus (a free implementation of Lemmings) have released a
new version, which is now based on SDL.

The current maintainer (Raphael Goulais) seems to be MIA for about 2
year. db.d.o says last seen is: Mon, 27 Jun 2005 14:40:58 and there is
no recent upload.

Is anyone in this group interested in uploading a new version for this
package?

From the upstream news section:
Pingus 0.7.0 is released, this is the first working version of Pingus that is
based on SDL. New things in this release:

 * switch from ClanLib to SDL
 * new anti-aliased fonts
 * better support for resolutions larger then 800x600 (see --geometry WxH
 option)
 * s-expression based file format (converter scripts are available)
 * PPC and 64bit support
 * language support for Czech, German, Finish, Italian, Norwegian,
Serbian, Turkish, Danish, Dutch, Spanish, Fench and Polish
 * level editor temporarly removed
 * a little less fps then the ClanLib version
 * no new levels or other main features

Just a(n obvious) reminder: add '-sa -v2.0.0-0ubuntu1' to
dpkg-buildpackage's command line when rebuilding the package
  for the upload ;-)
  Why the -0ubuntu1 ?

  See man dpkg-buildpackage, option -v.

I mean I thought it was a Debian packaging mailing list, not an Ubuntu
one. This suffix should be set for an Ubuntu upload, but not for a
 Debian upload, no ?

No. Please read what I pointed you to read. You will understand once
you realize the initial packaging was done in ubuntu and I took it and
continued with version 2.0.0-1, which is the first version after
2.0.0-0ubuntu1. The 2.0.0-1 changelog entry is relevant for Debian
since it includes the Closes line for the Debian ITP, which needed to
be a part of the .changes file once the initial upload of the package
is done.

Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to
cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a
pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64.

This is often due to a missing function prototype definition.

It's not suitably licenced to be in Debian. It's an SVG renderer, we
have pre-rendered PNGs instead, that warning can be ignored.

The initial Vietnamese translation for the program file: hex-a-hop

Language code: vi

msgid Puzzle game based on hexagonal tiles
msgstr Trờ chối đố dựa vào cái ngói hình sáu cạnh

If the accented characters in the above string don't survive the mail
process, I have also attached that string in desktop.vi.po .

Note: Vietnamese is a test case for Unicode support, since it is
composed largely of Latin vowels with combined diacritics. So it will
test your app. out just as much as CJK, maybe more. ;)

Here's a dutch translation file. I looked at the homepage
(http://www.aceinternet.co.uk/~mokona/) and the debian source, but could
not find a way to actually compile the game with gettext support, so I
did not test it.

In particular, I did not at all try to get the newlines correct (in fact
I didn't insert any), so it will probably look awful. This can be fixed
by anyone, of course, but IMO it should be fixed in the code, not in the
translation. That is, it would be better if the code determines the
length of the string and breaks it into lines itself.

Thanks,
Bas Wijnen

The font introduced in 0.0.20070315-3 is somewhat less readable compared to
earlier versions. I'd suggest using the same typeface that upstream uses. If
there is some particular reason not to do so, bold variant of the current
font would look a bit better, as I believe.

Hi,

Please find attached bg.po, containing Bulgarian translation for
hex-a-hop.

Also, for the desktop file, Puzzle game based on hexagonal tiles
translates in Bulgarian as Игра-ребус с шестоъгълни плочки.

Thanks.
