Bug#442411: OpenAL issue
This is actually specifically a problem with the current OpenAL library shipping i386 assembly for amd64, which interacts poorly with AMD SMP MMX support. The non-MMX backend used for powerpc works acceptably for AMD SMP machines. Personally, I'd prefer an update to OpenAL to disabling the current assembler, as upstream has improved AMD assembly support, but if this issue is to be solved quickly, simply disabling the use of the MMX instructions for AMD64 is a possible workaround. Alternately, btanks could trap error conditions when accessing the sound device, but this repeated exception processing would likely have a significant impact on performance. -- Emmet HIKORY ___ Pkg-games-devel mailing list Pkg-games-devel@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-games-devel
Bug#450770: lower resolution
Package: glest Version: 2.0.0-2 Severity: wishlist --- Please enter the report below this line. --- It would be greate if there would be a lower resolutions (maybe 640x480) available. I've got just an onboard-chipset and the game currently runs very slow (around 1,5 fps) but with 640x480 px. I think the game to run much faster (more fps). Thank you for your fine work! Bug#442411: patched OpenAL
Hello everybody. I'm the person who fix openal for the Battle Tanks project and uploaded fixed packages here: http://dump.iof.ru/people/megath/openal/ But actually I *DID NOT* patch any significant openAL code, I just replaced #ifdef __MMX__ with #if 0 (seems to be __MMX__ was defined by gcc, not autotools) Since OpenAL MMX support is really broken and weird, disabling MMX at all does not affect perfomance for me(athlon x2 4200+), at least for battle tanks. And I'm really throw-away-all-that-anciend-assembly-because-gcc-does-this-better-than-hackers person :) The proper way of fixing this is patching autotools scripts for openal and add something like --disable-mmx or --disable-assembly configure switches, but unfortunately I do not understand autotools well and cannot quickly hack it, sorry :( I did not released source because it became a complete mess after my intrusion. :) I hope OpenAL maintainers are aware of this problem. ___ Pkg-games-devel mailing list Pkg-games-devel@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-games-devel

And it certainly does start again in a window after leaving in full-screen. At least I play it most of the time in a window and I think this is a very good default for all starts.
