Bug#474740: sauerbraten: Hangs on the start on a dual-head system
Am Montag, den 07.04.2008, 17:59 +0400 schrieb Dmitry V. Rutsky: Package: sauerbraten Version: 0.0.20071227.dfsg-2 Severity: normal I recently upgraded my system to a dual-head configuration. The large virtual screen (3584x1600) is mapped onto the left monitor which is 2560x1600, and onto the right monitor which is 1152x864. Since I had done that lots of newly installed games from Debian hung on start with the following symptoms: the right monitor goes black. Sauerbraten was relatively fine: it started on the whole virtual screen, and I could go and change it to windowed mode and play. However, when I have moved the ~/.sauerbraten directory in the hope that it will make Sauerbraten save my configuration, the hanging and black screen at start resulted. hi, have you already tried starting sauerbraten directly in windowed mode and/or turning of shader effects? please try to launch saurbraten by sauerbraten -w640 -h480 -t -f. usually it should start in a small window without any shader effects (see sauerbraten's manpage for details about the parameters). if this helps out, we've at least found a workaround. and some obligatory questions: what kind of graphics card is in the affected machine? which driver are you using for that card, and did you install the driver from the packages shipped with debian and are they really used in the xorg.conf configuration file? cheers - fuddl signature.asc Description: Dies ist ein digital signierter Nachrichtenteil ___ Pkg-games-devel mailing list Pkg-games-devel@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-games-devel

Re: Addition to menu policy
This one time, at band camp, Josef Spillner wrote: Hello, How about we add Game-related tools or something like that to the Debian menu policy? There are a lot of such tools which do not fit into the usual game categories, but spreading them over the apps categories also seems like a bad option. Two examples where such a tools section would be needed are level editors and GGZ core clients for networking. A player would certainly expect those under Games/ instead of under Apps/editors and Apps/networking. Such a change would have to be discussed on debian-devel, but gathering some pro/con voices here seems fitting. hi josef, first of all, i consider the debian menu system as deprecated since freedesktop.org released the desktop menu standard draft [1]. i looked through their menu categories, and they also don't have a subcategory for game-related menu entries. so i think things should be discussed with freedesktop first. on the other hand, is it really worth to extend the menu categories? sure, all game-related tools/helper applications/etc. would fit under a menu sub-entry like game related tools, but in my eyes they do fit well into the existing categories! a map editor is still a software development tool, a network game server scanner is still a network application - so i'm not sure if it's worth adding an extra category for such applications. this might lead to ambigous situations, because (don't take this too serious, please!) gimp should also appear below game related tools as it can be used to paint textures for games. but i'm with you, if you say placing a level editor below games is wrong. such an entry belongs elsewhere, i'd suggest it belonging to software development. cheers - fuddl [1] http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/latest/apa.html -- Among elephants it's not considered cool nor in any good taste to drain other elephants signature.asc Description: PGP signature ___ Pkg-games-devel mailing list Pkg-games-devel@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-games-devel
