--- Comment #16 from Reinout van Schouwen 2007-12-28 09:50 UTC ---
Does the patch make the file chooser pop up with the XDG download directory
pre-selected?
That way we could keep the amount of extra work for the use case where you just
want to download and inspect later to a minimum, while satisfying the people
who expect Save As and a file chooser.
The current situation isn't very ideal either, as you must develop mental
concepts of downloading vs. saving in a folder, while it's almost the same
thing.

--- Comment #15 from Diego Escalante Urrelo 2007-12-23 06:45 UTC ---
I'll add my use case to the chat:

When I'm downloading -say- some tarballs, I usually hit Download because I
know Download will put stuff in $download-dir.
When I'm downloading -say- pictures, I hit Save as... so I can choose where
exactly to save this stuff (say: ~/pics/).

I've been using sid's epiphany and I miss the Download button, but maybe it's
just MY use case, MY expected behaviour.
Sometimes I only want to get the stuff to my laptop, to my incoming dir, I
don't really care about it in that moment. And sometimes I want to save it
somewhere specifically. I don't think neither of the cases should exclude the
other.

I just wanted to add my 2 cents.

Reopening this bug. After running ephy HEAD for this first time, none of the

Cosimo queried me about this on IRC this afternoon. As I have never seen this
before I started out by suspected EphyNodeView ;) When I quickly read over
that code I saw some button-press handlers connected to the GtkTreeView. These
were not checking on which window the events were received -- this stroke me as
very suspicious. As I was not on a Linux machine this afternoon I could not
verify this until now. And it seems that my first suspicion is right ;)

If I patch EphyNodeView with the following, the problem goes away for me:

Thanks Kris for the great help here! It works just fine with your fix.
This patch integrates Diego's one and yours, adding resize support to columns
for both History window and Bookmark Editor.

adds ellipses to columns

I also noticed that the editors are ugly when having long bookmarks addresses
(common if you use bookmarklets or bookmark dynamic websites pages) or (even
more common) history addresses/titles (i got many unwanted GoogleAd pages in
history with really long titles and addresses).
Attached patch ellipsizes columns so that the whole thing looks way better and
integrates with new resizing ability.
