Policy 3.9.4 and later specify the use of symbols for shared library
package, and this is not yet used by the netcdf package. I'm working on
that.

Before bumping the Standards-Version always check the relevant changes
in Policy:

I'm still working on the changes to support Policy 3.9.4 and up, most of
the issues are fixed with the changes for canonical Vcs-* URLs 
copyright-format 1.0, but the symbols are the biggest missing piece.

Btw, I'm putting all patches into pull requests,
https://github.com/Unidata/netcdf-c/pulls so we don't have to carry
them around for too long.

The symbols are almost done, I already had the packages from
snapshots.d.o used to generate the symbols history from libnetcdf3 onwards.

If you've not done so already, rereading the Debian Policy sections that
changes from 3.9.4 onwards is a good idea. It documents the need for
many of the recent changes.

You could also have a look at the pbuilder section of the Debian GIS
Policy, the lintian hook described there is very helpful to get the full
lintian report after every build using the lintian package from the same
distribution as the build:

Thanks for forwarding the patches already, I hadn't gotten around to
that yet. The PR based on the privacy-breach-logo.patch needs more work
without the Debian packaging. I personally would not have forwarded that
patch, and kept it in the Debian package at for now. Since netCDF
supports both autotools and cmake, you need to patch both to install the
logo included in the docs directory alongside the Doxygen generated HTML.
