Re: tomcat6 wheezy DSA (was/and Re: tomcat6_6.0.41-2+squeeze5_amd64.changes REJECTED

2014-11-23 Thread Mark Hymers
On Sun, 23, Nov, 2014 at 10:29:59AM +0100, Holger Levsen spoke thus..
 Hi,

On Sonntag, 23. November 2014, Debian FTP Masters wrote:

so this is due to the changes to dak implemented by Mark Hymers during the
MiniDebConf in Cambridge early November. (Mark can you please explain what
other changes (relevant to LTS) you did?!

So, basically, for those following along, Holger asked me to make sure
that squeeze LTS couldn't end up ahead of stable (wheezy). I therefore
added the following version constraints:

mhy@franck:~$ dak admin v-c list-suite squeeze-lts
squeeze-lts MustBeNewerThan oldstable
squeeze-lts Enhances oldstable
squeeze-lts MustBeOlderThan stable
squeeze-lts MustBeOlderThan proposed-updates

This probably means that in some cases (especially those involving new
upstream versions), stable security updates will need to hit p-u before
the LTS uploads happen. If this is a problem, we should just revoke
those parts of the version constraints and leave only the oldstable
ones.

Thanks,

Mark

Bug#768835: Bug #768835: FTBFS: Could not add file '.../JavadocFixTool.class' to ZIP

2014-11-23 Thread Michael Banck
Hi,

On Sun, Nov 09, 2014 at 04:39:23PM +0100, Adam Borowski wrote:
 Package: src:groovy2
 Version: 2.2.2+dfsg-3
 Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past)

Well, it FTBFS on armhf, but did it ever build on this arch? I find
your justification dubious and would suggest to downgrade this bug to
important, as it is clearly a architecture-dependet issue.

 * What went wrong:
 Execution failed for task ':jar'.
  Could not add file
 '/«BUILDDIR»/groovy2-2.2.2+dfsg/buildSrc/target/classes/main/JavadocFixTool.class'
 to ZIP '/«BUILDDIR»/groovy2-2.2.2+dfsg/buildSrc/target/libs/buildSrc.jar'.

So while JavadocFixTool.class is around, the buildSrc.jar looks bad:

(sid_armhf-dchroot)mbanck@asachi:~/src/groovy2-2.2.2+dfsg/buildSrc$ jar
tvf target/libs/buildSrc.jar

target/libs/buildSrc.jar
-rw-r--r-- 1 mbanck Debian 158 Nov 23 13:05 target/libs/buildSrc.jar

 Full log attached.

One thing I noticed:

Caused by: java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: No such file or directory
 -
 /«BUILDDIR»/groovy2-2.2.2+dfsg/buildSrc/target/classes/main/JavadocFixTool.class
   at
 org.gradle.internal.nativeplatform.filesystem.PosixUtil$POSIXHandlerImpl.error(PosixUtil.java:38)

In this line, there's a linebreak missing for a regular exception
backtrace. When I rerouted output on asachi, I found a non-printable
character in the log:

|[ERROR] [org.gradle.BuildExceptionReporter] Caused by:
|java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: No such file or directory -
|/home/mbanck/src/groovy2-2.2.2+dfsg/buildSrc/target/classes/main/JavadocFixTool.class^@
|[ERROR] [org.gradle.BuildExceptionReporter] at
|org.gradle.internal.nativeplatform.filesystem.PosixUtil$POSIXHandlerImpl.error(PosixUtil.java:38)

See the ^@. Maybe that is part of the problem.

binary:tomcat6-extras is NEW.

Your package has been put into the NEW queue, which requires manual action
from the ftpteam to process. The upload was otherwise valid (it had a good
OpenPGP signature and file hashes are valid), so please be patient.

Packages are routinely processed through to the archive, and do feel
free to browse the NEW queue[1].

If there is an issue with the upload, you will recieve an email from a
member of the ftpteam.

If you have any questions, you may reply to this email.

robocode - Java programming game based on battle tanks
Closes: 551877
Changes:
 robocode (1.9.2.4-1) experimental; urgency=medium
 .
   * Imported Upstream version 1.9.2.4. (Closes: #551877) (LP: #377376)
 - Fix compilation errors by using the default-jdk. (LP: #1384691)
   * New build system: Maven
 - Switch to CDBS and maven-debian-helper.
 - New files:
   + maven.ignoreRules
   + maven.properties
   + maven.rules
   + clean
   + robocode.poms
   * debian/control:
 - New build-dependencies:
   junit4, junit4-doc, libcodesize-java, libecj-java,
   libmaven-assembly-plugin-java, libmaven-dependency-plugin-java,
   libmaven-javadoc-plugin-java, libpicocontainer-java,
   libpicocontainer-java-doc
 - robocode: Add ${maven:Depends} substvar.
 - robocode: Recommend default-jdk-doc.
 - Drop robocode-doc. All documentation will be provided by robocode itself.
   * Drop debian/codesize. Codesize is now packaged as a standalone library.
   * Drop all patches because they are all obsolete:
 - 01-use-sensible-browser.diff
 - 02-use-versions.txt-from-usr-share-doc.diff
 - 03-point-api-help-to-robocode-doc.diff
 - 04-link-to-local-docs.diff
 - 05-codesize-jar.diff
 - 06-update-manager.diff
   * Add the following patches:
 - ecj.patch: For preventing a FTBFS. Use Debian's version of the ecj
compiler. Please note that libecj-java is only needed to compile Robocode
successfully but that Debian uses the default-jdk compiler instead.
 - showJavaDocumentation.patch: Users should use Debian's local
   default-jdk-doc.
   * Install roborumble example script with robocode.examples file to
/usr/share/doc/robocode/examples. Please use this script as a template for
running the Robocode competitions on your computer.
   * Update robocode wrapper script. Use XDG_DATA_HOME as the personal data
directory for Robocode. All user data will be installed to
~/.local/share/robocode/$VER where $VER is the current upstream version.
   * Update debian/watch and detect new upstream releases at github.com.
   * Update get-orig-source target. The sources are pristine now.
   * Update debian/copyright for new release. Robocode is licensed under the
 EPL-1.0 now.
   * Update man page of Robocode for new release.
   * Drop README.source.

= Bugfixes =
* Bug [2845608] - java.io.FileNotFoundException in RobotFileSystemManager.init
* Bug [2845612] - Can't load Katana 1.0 or DrussGT 1.3.1wilo
* Bug [2854692] - Lockup on start if too many bots in robots dir
* Bug [2852860] - IllegalArgumentException on painting in some robots
* Fixed NullPointerException that could occur with the -battle command-line
option

= Changes =

== Banning ==
* The previous 1.7.x.x versions have been very strict so that robots that could
not be loaded, started, skipped too many turns etc. would be disallowed to
participate in battles. With the bugfix for bug [2845612] above this policy has
been changed so robots are only banned if the cause a security violation or
they could not be loaded or started (meaning that they are not able to run). In
addition, ALL security violations are always written out in both the main
console and robot's console. A message will be written out in the main console
like xxx has caused a security violation. This robot has been banned and will
not be allowed to participate in battles.

== Painting ==
* With the bugfix for bug [2852860] a change was made so a robot will now
receive this message in its console window, if it is painting too much between
actions:
SYSTEM: This robot is painting too much between actions. Max. capacity has
been reached.

* Notice that a robot is not allowed to perform an unlimited amount of paint
operations for two reasons:
1) It takes up a lot of memory as the painting operations are recorded in a
buffer before being processed, and potentially this buffer must be recorded to
a file (for replays). A robot is allowed to use up to a maximum of 64 KB per
action. An average painting operation like e.g. fillRect(x, y, width, height)
takes up 15 bytes, meaning that more 4000 painting operations should be
possible, which is a lot.
2) It takes a lot of CPU cycles to process the painting buffer to the display
making the painting slow if the buffer is too large.

* It is possible to remove the limit of the robots painting buffer by using the
command-line option: -Ddebug=true

Version 1.7.1.4 Beta
(26-Aug-2009)
---
This version is dedicated for the RoboRumble@Home community where many issues
seen with the RoboRumble client have been solved.
Thank you all for reporting as many known issues as possible, and also help out
solving these - especially with the issue seen with the robot movement that had
a big impact on the scores and rankings! :-)

A big thanks goes to Patrick Cupka (Voidious), Julian Kent (Skilgannon),
Positive and Nat Pavasant (Nat) for their combined work with developing and
testing the new and improved robot movement regarding acceleration and
deceleration rules (Bug [2828072]). :-)

= Bugfixes =
* Bug [2828072] - Accel/decel rules introduced in 1.7.1.3 causes trouble.
* Bug [2828479] - Missed onRobotDeath events.
* Bug [2819387] - Team jar files reported as corrupted.
* Bug [2809518] - Does not extract .properties files into bot data dir. This
fix did not work properly

 Hi,

On Sonntag, 23. November 2014, Debian FTP Masters wrote:
 Version check failed:
Your upload included the source package tomcat6, version 6.0.41-2+squeeze5,
however stable already has version 6.0.35-6+deb7u1.
Uploads to squeeze-lts must have a lower version than present in stable.

so this is due to the changes to dak implemented by Mark Hymers during the
MiniDebConf in Cambridge early November. (Mark can you please explain what
other changes (relevant to LTS) you did?!

So, basically, for those following along, Holger asked me to make sure
that squeeze LTS couldn't end up ahead of stable (wheezy). I therefore
 added the following version constraints:

 mhy@franck:~$ dak admin v-c list-suite squeeze-lts
 squeeze-lts MustBeNewerThan oldstable
 squeeze-lts Enhances oldstable
 squeeze-lts MustBeOlderThan stable
 squeeze-lts MustBeOlderThan proposed-updates

This probably means that in some cases (especially those involving new
upstream versions), stable security updates will need to hit p-u before
the LTS uploads happen. If this is a problem, we should just revoke
those parts of the version constraints and leave only the oldstable
 ones.

Hi Holger,

Thank you for coordinating this effort. I'm not aware of any reason why
the squeeze-lts packaging/version of tomcat6 wouldn't also be
appropriate for wheezy.

An updated tomcat-native package should also be part of the update;
building 1.1.31-1 from testing/unstable on wheezy fine. (I just built
both of these, the squeeze-lts tomcat6 + tomcat-native 1.1.31-1 on a
wheezy chroot and ran them without any issue.)

The Java Team is cc:d on this thread. Emmanuel has been in much closer
contact with tomcat6 since this effort started, so he may have some input.

Synopsis: Updating tomcat6 for squeeze-lts put us in the awkward
position of having a newer tomcat in old-stable than in stable; Holger
is helping to get this resolved. I am recommending that tomcat-native
1.1.31 accompany any updates to tomcat6 6.0.41.

Cheers,
tony

/me cannot believe adsb might have done a mistake - have we been hacked? ;-)

The cruft report for unstable will look *very* different due to 6.0.41-3
being a *radically* different package.

 tomcat6 (6.0.41-3) unstable; urgency=medium

Tomcat 6 will not be supported in Jessie, but the Servlet API is still
useful as a build dependency for other packages.

The decision/requirement to remove tomcat6 from jessie has been
requested by the Security team for quite a while, and the 6.0.41-3
source upload effectively does this by just building libservlet2.5-java
(without which we would have many packages with missing r-deps).

I not sure I understand all of the ramifications of the statement I'm
about to make, but for the purposes of squeeze and wheezy, we need to
consider 6.0.41-2 as the last version of a complete tomcat6 source
package.

I have mixed feelings about these sorts of failures. I understand the
need to build in a non-networked environment, but it is also unrealistic
to expect that networking software not contain unit tests that exercise
networking. Disabling such tests is potentially a disservice to our
users; we're no longer testing as much as we could during a build.

I think eventually we're going to have to have a better way to
differentiate between what a package needs during its build phase vs.
its test phase, but that's a discussion for after the jessie release.

Emmanuel, any concerns with an upload to disable this test? BTW,
there's a good (and expansive) thread on a related topic here:

what's missing now is a bug against ftp.debian.org asking for the removal of
the binaries from sid, which are not build by the -3 anymore.

RM/NBS bug filed, #770769.

*then*, -3 can migrate to jessie and those binaries will vanish

ignored. My only concern is that we weaken the test coverage and I tend
to dislike that, but if hitting a DNS server is a severe policy
violation then let's upload a new version.

 Hi,

When building eclipse using dpkg-buildpackage -B, some files in the
eclipse-rcp package are not installed. You can see this by comparing the
list of files installed on amd64 vs i386:
  https://packages.debian.org/jessie/amd64/eclipse-rcp/filelist
  https://packages.debian.org/jessie/i386/eclipse-rcp/filelist

Specifically the lack of /usr/share/java/org.eclipse.jface.jar on i386
 causes androidsdk-tools to FTBFS.

Looking at debian/rules, the org.eclipse.jface part near the bottom
needs to be moved from the arch-independent section to the
 arch-dependent section.

The dh_install override seems to be wrong indeed. It should read

override_dh_install-indep:

instead of

override_dh_install_indep:

I'm currently building the package for i386. I think we should add
another override_dh_install-arch target and override_jh_classpath target
and tidy up debian/rules a little. I'll report back as soon as it's done.

Currently the Vcs fields of this package point to:
  git://anonscm.debian.org/pkg-java/androidsdk-tools.git
  http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-java/androidsdk-tools.git;a=summary

but these pages don't exist, I just get an error when visiting them.

Hi James,

That's strange - thank you for pointing this out. I have pushed the
copy of the repo I had locally (from looking at this package for
sponsoring in summer of 2013) and used git-import-dsc to pull in the
current version in testing/unstable. This should make it easier to work
on the FTBFS bug.

Jakub or Stephan, if you have a better/more complete copy of the repo,
please scratch what's in /git/pkg-java/androidsdk-tools.git and push
your repo.

The link is currently still broken, but I think we're just waiting for a
cronjob to run on alioth. Once it's there, I'll close the bug.

Cheers,
tony

Control: tags -1 patch

I have committed the patch to Git master. I'm also going to attach it to
this bug report.

We probably need to revert the last revision or parts of it to get this
bug fix into Jessie.

Two other RC bugs for eclipse are still left.

Bug#770744: javamail: FTBFS under pbuilder with USENETWORK=no: Test failure

Emmanuel, any concerns with an upload to disable this test?

I share the same feelings and I think this kind of failure should be
ignored. My only concern is that we weaken the test coverage and I tend
to dislike that, but if hitting a DNS server is a severe policy
violation then let's upload a new version.

I'm not sure if it is going to be considered RC or not, so I've pushed a
patch to the repo that we can use if we need to upload, or revert if
it's not required.

Bug#770780: Apache ActiveMQ Packaged with Old XStream Library

2014-11-23 Thread tony mancill
On 11/23/2014 04:54 PM, Georgi Geshev wrote:
 Package: activemq
 Version: 5.6.0+dfsg-1

Apache ActiveMQ as packaged for Debian seems to ship with an old XStream
(1.4.2) library[1][2] which allows for instantiating arbitrary classes.
This could be leveraged for system command execution as demonstrated
 against versions before 1.4.7.

Hello Georgi,

Thank you for the bug report. Could you confirm that this bug report is
for Debian stable (wheezy)? Debian testing has had xstream 1.4.7 since
March of 2014. Therefore, I believe this is a security bug against the
version of libxstream-java found in wheezy.

Note that activemq ships a symlink to /usr/share/java/xstream.jar and
not the JAR itself, which is installed by the libxstream-java package.
If you need an immediate fix, you should be able to install a newer
xstream [0] .deb (or symlink to another newer copy of xstream on your
system).

Thank you,
tony
