Bug#413295: classpath: menus missing in Swing applications

Hi,

 can you use OpenJDK instead?

Sure. I just reported the bug since gij still is in debian and users
of gij can easily see its state from the bug tracking system.

Bug#413295: classpath: menus missing in Swing applications

2010-07-28 Thread Timo Juhani Lindfors
Hi,

Torsten Werner twer...@debian.org writes:
 Yes gij and its embedded classpath are quite buggy. It does not make
 sense to report every single bug in Debian as long as you are not

Well gij does provide the java alternative and people sometimes
accidentally use it. When they don't see any bugs they assume it
should work... I agree this should not be done for all bugs but Swing
support is a pretty major part of Java.

 directly affected by the problem. It might be useful to report the
 bugs in the upstream bugtracker however.

As for upstream: I probably considered the upstream to be claspath in
this case. Since menus worked fine in kaffe that also uses classpath I
thought that the bug must be debian related. It was a while back so I
can't really be sure. I did send most swing bugs directly to upstream

Bug#413295: classpath: menus missing in Swing applications

2010-07-12 Thread Timo Juhani Lindfors

The package classpath is no longer in squeeze or unstable for
amd64. How should this bug be handled?

gij jmenu still shows a window with no menubar so can we reassign
this to gij? (Sounds odd since gij is internally probably using a copy
of classpath anyway?)

Bug#492311: icedtea-gcjwebplugin: seems to build with free software, consider moving to main?

2008-07-25 Thread Timo Juhani Lindfors
Package: icedtea-gcjwebplugin
Version: 1.0-2
Severity: wishlist

I noticed I could build icedtea-gcjwebplugin in my unstable chroot
using

apt-get build-dep icedtea-gcjwebplugin
fakeroot apt-get --build source icedtea-gcjwebplugin
sudo dpkg -i icedtea-gcjwebplugin*deb

with sources.list of

deb http://ftp.fi.debian.org/debian sid main
deb-src http://ftp.fi.debian.org/debian sid main contrib

Could this mean that icedtea-gcjwebplugin could be moved to main? If I
understood correctly it would allow e.g. vnc-java to be moved to main
as well and would finally make it possible for me to allow easy
read-only access to my development VNC environment for demonstration
purposes. (I am writing this bug report over vnc-java right now).

Bug#413295: classpath: menus missing in Swing applications

2007-03-08 Thread Timo Juhani Lindfors
Hi,

 Can you please test with classpath from experimental? Experimental

I dpkg -i'd the following packages from experimental

cacao_0.97-4_i386.deb
classpath-common-unzipped_0.93-1_all.deb
classpath-common_0.93-1_all.deb
classpath-gtkpeer_0.93-1_i386.deb
classpath_0.93-1_i386.deb
jamvm_1.4.5-2_i386.deb

but I still don't see any menubar with jamvm or cacao.

best regards,
Timo Lindfors

Bug#413295: classpath: menus missing in Swing applications

2007-03-03 Thread Timo Juhani Lindfors
Package: classpath
Version: 2:0.92-4
Severity: normal

Steps to reproduce:
1) cat  jmenu.java  EOF
import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.*;
public class jmenu extends JFrame {
public static void main(String[] args) {
(new jmenu()).show();
}
public jmenu() {
JMenuBar mb = new JMenuBar();
this.setJMenuBar(mb);
JMenu m = new JMenu(menu0);
mb.add(m);
JMenuItem mi = new JMenuItem(menuitem0);
m.add(mi);
m.add(mi);
this.setSize(new Dimension(600, 600));
}
}
EOF
2) ecj jmenu.java
3) jamvm jmenu.java

Expected results:
3) A window shows up, it has menu menu0 which includes menuitem0 menuitem

Actual results:
3) A window shows up bit it has no visible menu bar at all.

More info:
1) The above works in debian testing, I see the problematic behavior
only in unstable.

2) In addition to jamvm the bug is reproducible with gij-4.1 and
cacao. However, I see the menu in kaffe. This made me think the bug is
probably in classpath and not in any individual virtual machine.

3) I haven't tested with classpath cvs head since I couldn't figure
out how to tell cacao to use classpath cvs head (I did manage to build
classpath cvs head with ecj though and I can compile java 1.5 programs
with

ecj -1.5 -bootclasspath
~/installdir/classpath-2007-01-22/share/classpath/glibj.zip $@

)

Please let me know if you can't reproduce the bug. I'm happy to
provide more info.

Bug#383791: checkstyle: source code missing for emma.jar?

2006-08-19 Thread Timo Juhani Lindfors
Package: checkstyle
Version: 4.1-1
Severity: serious
Justification: breaks DFSG #2

I just noticed that checkstyle_4.1.orig.tar.gz includes

checkstyle-src-4.1/lib/emma.jar

which according to

unzip -l checkstyle-src-4.1/lib/emma.jar

includes e.g.

com/vladium/emma/instr/InstrProcessorST.class

but I couldn't find source code for this file anywhere in debian. I'm
not sure but I think this violates DFSG #2 and at least
http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt says

 All content in main and contrib must meet the DFSG, both in
  .debs and in the source (including the .orig.tar.gz)

If the build process does not need emma.jar you probably could just
remove it? Otherwise I think you should include the sources as well.
