Re: JRuby packaging

Hi Alex,

JRuby is in main now. The open tasks are:

- upstream update to latest 1.5.x
- switch packaging to cdbs and dh
- upstream update to 1.6.x
- do no longer build bundle foreign classes into jruby.jar

Cheers,

Yes it is. I have uploaded version 1.5.1+dfsg1-1 to experimental
yesterday. This version has fewer bundled jar files in the orig tarball.
Could you check if there are any regressions compared to the unstable
 version?

I've seen some issues in the tests during the build. I'll try to find
 the cause for that.

Sounds interesting - let me know if I can help out in anyway.

James Page of Canonical has already put a lot of effort into
packaging jenkins in accordance with Debian policy.

Currently he seems to be waiting for some support from the side of
Debian to resolve outstanding issues and sponsor the package upload
 into the Debian archive.

The majority of the package-set to support Jenkins has now been accepted
into Ubuntu (the last 7 are in the NEW queue for Oneiric ATM). I have
been feeding these back to Debian when I get the time (I have about 19
remaining); Tony Mancill and Damien Raude-Morvan have been reviewing and
sponsoring my packaging as its produced and to-date have outpaced my
ability to submit requests for sponsorship - so as far as I'm concerned
I've got the support I need ATM.

2011-07-29 Thread Mario Joußen

Hi Lionel,

Hi Mario,

In my work for the pkg-voip team, I became interested in the
asterisk-prompt-de package in Debian, of which you are the registered
maintainer. You might have noticed I started to discuss with the
reporter about bug #508463.

Are you still interested in maintaining that package, and in being
active in Debian generally? I ask before the last Debian-related
activity of yours I found dates back to July 2008; but maybe there was
some activity of yours that I missed in my cursory search. Ah yes, you
voted in the 2009 DPL elections.

If you don't want or can't take care of asterisk-prompt-de anymore,
would it be OK for you if pkg-voip took it over? An alternative that
we would be very glad about is if you decided to join pkg-voip and
co-maintain that package with us :)

If you don't wish, or can't, participate in Debian in general anymore,
could you please inform the project officially? To do that:

  - Send an gpg-signed email about why you are leaving the project to
debian-priv...@lists.debian.org.

  - Notify the Debian key ring maintainers that you are leaving by
opening a ticket in Debian RT by sending a mail to
keyr...@rt.debian.org with the words 'Debian RT' somewhere in the
subject line (case doesn't matter).

This procedure ensures you can more easily return should you wish so
in the future.

Obviously, if you want to become active again (or have been in a way
that has escaped my search), that is even better!

This email is copied to pkg-java-maintainers because one
team-maintained package of yours has Mario as uploader; so maybe one
of you has heard from Mario semi-recently?

Thanks in advance for letting us know what's up,

Could you please provide a reference?

  How about this: http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2011/06/msg00316.html

Ah, now I understand the whole deal better.

It's making some more sense to me too.

I won't judge zookeeper, but it is pretty clear it is about to be
orphaned, and that it needs a new team maintaining the Debian package if
it is to remain in Debian.

It *is* too complex a package, it is not the kind of thing to foster on
Debian QA. It will have to be dropped if a new maintainer doesn't step up
 eventually.

As outlined in Henrique's previous post, the first thing which any new
maintainer team (and I do think it needs to be a team) must do is fix
the FTBFS bug. Eventually isn't good enough IMHO. I agree with
Henrique that leaving zookeeper in unstable would be OK IF there was an
active maintainer and #626020 was fixed. The package already claims to
be team maintained (pkg-java-maintainers) but nobody from that team has
spoken up here. (CC'd).

#626020 has already been open for a month. If it stays open another
month, I will file a bug for removal of zookeeper from testing. I
don't see any other option.

However, if there is no response from the existing team in the logs for
#626020 before that stage and no new team has shown signs of activity on that
bug report either, then I will seek removal from unstable because the
only real option would be to orphan the package as unmaintained, at
which point removal from unstable becomes inevitable.

Without active maintenance *and* a fix for #626020, there is already
sufficient justification to remove zookeeper from testing and unstable.

If #626020 is fixed by someone who is not willing to maintain it long
term, it's still less than ideal.

If #629856 is fixed without an active team appearing for zookeeper,
there is no reason to keep zookeeper around - even in unstable.

There was a split between upstream icedtea (openjdk-* packages) et icedtea-web

 Okay. I see.

AFAIK, we need felix-shell and felix-bundlerepository

Actually, I cannot confirm that I can run Felix using java -jar

 I have to fix org.apache.felix.main.jar/META-INF/MANIFEST.MF file a

 Class-Path: org.apache.felix.framework-2.0.5.jar org.eclipse.osgi.jar

The cause is a behavior of -jar option. See
http://download.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/tools/windows/java.html
- When you use this option, the JAR file is the source of all user
classes, and other user class path settings are ignored.

I have to fix org.apache.felix.main.jar/META-INF/MANIFEST.MF file a
little bit adding the following line.

Class-Path: org.apache.felix.framework-2.0.5.jar org.eclipse.osgi.jar

BTW, it looks odd to me use classes from another OSGi framework to run
Felix. Is it okay for you?

Unfortunately, even with a fixed manifest I cannot get a Felix

 your packages.
Could you include something like readme.txt in your package, please?

There is some missing components for Apache Felix for it to be really useful
as a full standalone OSGi container. AFAIK, we need felix-shell and felix-
bundlerepository to be able to simply launch java -jar

 Hi Christian,

 inclusion in Debian.

Hello Thomas, thanks for your answer.

OK. So, even a translation update round wouldn't be helpful as it is
unlikely that a maintainer upload follows. Is that right?

If so, I'll move the package aside from my radar as you suggest.

Hi Niels,

I am not sure about openjdk in Ubuntu, but I assume it does not use the
/etc/java-6-sun/ file as that would be removed when the sun-java6
pacakges are pruged. Good to read that is has been included in testing
already, I only checked Lenny and Squeeze and haven't yet upgraded to

AFAIK, fop prior to 1.0 needed ant-trax to build which is no more
available with ant 1.8. Please check if fop 1.0 still needs that.

Re: java debian packages out of date please fix ASAP!

2011-02-21 Thread tony mancill
Err... 6.24-1 has been available in the archive since February 16th [1].
(Personally, I applaud Sylvestre for the quick turn-around.) It takes slightly
longer for the updated package to make it into stable, as Debian is a 100%
volunteer organization and the security releases for stable must be coordinated
amongst several teams.

However, there is nothing preventing you from either installing the packages
from testing on your stable system (I don't see anything in the Depends that
should cause an issue on squeeze). Or, you can easily pull the sources from
either testing or unstable and building a binary package for your desired target
platform. (I just did a build in a squeeze chroot and it took about 10 minutes,
including downloading the sources.) Alternatively, if you'd like *unofficial*
packages built inside a squeeze chroot, you fetch the i386 versions of the
packages from here [2]. Email me privately if you want to go this route and
need amd64.

You can always review the current status of the sun-java6 packages across all of
the Debian releases here [3].

I got the acceptance notification, so see things have happened nice and
quickly, thanks for responding to my email promptly.

Sending in notes as I did is the trivial bit, it is you people doing
that packaging that do the hard work, thanks for undertaking it.

The JVM eco-system seems to be hard one to handle in Debian -- I guess
because of the jar hell problem. Presumably this will only get worse
as OSGi and/or Project Jigsaw go into real production so that it is
possible, indeed required, to have multiple versions of jars all loaded
at once. I assume all the JVM-related packages will have to head
towards being packaged with their version number in the name as GCC is?

Hey,

All the eclipse packages currently available in Debian are maintained by
the same people, so right now it is automatically tracked. :)
Other than that it is possible for maintainers (and users) to
subscribe to other packages via the PTS[1] and get email notification
when ever a new version of a package is uploaded (or/and other things).

Works for me with sbuild. Must be that pbuilder/cowbuilder doesn't
sanatize environment variables like sbuild does. I've been using
sbuild for building packages. DISPLAY is one of the variables that
don't get passed when building through sbuild, since the buildd
machines wouldn't have any displays to use.

I perfectly know that buildd network doesn't provide a $DISPLAY for running
graphic tools but that's not my point :)

My question was more : what's purpose of this test and how could this test
pass if it depends on $DISPLAY settings ?
(as it seems to pass when I have DISPLAY unset or when DISPLAY is set to an
 existing DISPLAY)

I patched it so it would skip these tests that relied on DISPLAY being
set. I haven't gotten around to reporting it upstream.

I would try with sbuild. Or you can file a bug against pbuilder/cowbuilder.

 Already done, see http://bugs.debian.org/589687

Bug#602697: chef: remove from squeeze because of solr (#602697)? (was Re: Bug#602697: chef-solr depends on solr)

2011-01-25 Thread Victor Seva
2011/1/25 Luca Capello l...@pca.it:
It's also in lenny (albeit in contrib) so if it were removed then a
migration path for those users to a replacement would be good.

Given that chef-solr was not in lenny, the above applies to solr only.
However, I should say that I do not know at all a good migration path.

This concern still stands, but given that no one has shown interest in
implementing this in mostly two months, I would say that we should
 simply remove solr from squeeze.

For the Release Team: should I file an RM bug or this one is sufficient?

AFAIK solr has been removed already from squeeze.

My packages are in https://launchpad.net/~ludovicc/+archive/ppa/, and
they will come into Debian soon.

Also, there is a lonely libnetbeans-cvsclient-java package, it would be
great if it could be generated from the most current version of Netbeans.

Netbeans-6.9 ships with a cvs client. I'm guessing they include the
sources from this libnetbeans-cvsclient-java package directly, so
there's probably no need to sync with this extra package.

 Great work !
I'm really interrested into getting :
 - updated Netbeans 6.9 package ready
 - finally move from contrib to main

 felix-framework

 I've just reviewed felix-framework.
I've commited some changes to felix-framework GIT repository like :

     * Add myself as Uploaders.
     * d/copyright: Update to DEP-5 r166 format.
     * d/control: Drop Depends: ${shlib:Depends} as useless for Java package.
     * d/control: Drop Depends: default-jre-headless | java2-runtime-headless
as a Java library don't need to depends on runtime (Java Policy).
     * d/control, d/rules: Use mh_clean and B-D on maven-repo-helper (= 1.1)

You might want to review others felix-* packages to replicate those changes
and to check packages synopsis / long descriptions to be more verbose (like
Holger Levsen - and Lintian - suggested :)
