Re: Name space pollution: Mauve

2008-03-25 Thread Aaron M. Renn
Hi. I'm not sure if I'm the Aaron you refer to below, but I didn't
author any human genome application. I did write a number of Mauve
Java compatibility test cases, but haven't been an active contributor to
that for some time. I'd suggest reposting this to the Mauve development
list and the Classpath development list.

Aaron.

 Hello,

at the Debian-Med list we discussed about the name space pollution
that is caused by two projects called Mauve:

I do not know this other mauve project but wt least we might possibly
have to change the package name of your Mauve in Debian in case we
can not convince the other maintainer to change the name. Could you
perhaps suggest a useful name for the Debian package? I'd consider
something like wisc-mauve or something like this reasonable, but perhaps
you have a better suggestion. Once we are at it: Do you have any
hint for my problem with a missing jar file when trying to build Mauve?
Hmmm, that's unfortunate. Yes, I had come across their project before but
never really considered that it might cause naming conflicts. Perhaps
they would want to rename to something like mauve-test? Or maybe the
aligner could be renamed mauve-aligner? I'd prefer to avoid wisc-mauve
since I'm now at the University of Queensland and Mauve may move at some
 point.

I wonder what you think about Aaron's (the Multiple Genome Alignment -
 Mauve
author) to rename the first package to mauve-test.

 Kind regards

   Andreas.

No, sorry for the confusion, you are the Aaron who is mentioned
auite on top as one of the authors of the Debian mauve package.

This was Aaron Darling, the author of the Genome-Mauve and who
is interrested in getting his software packaged for Debian (preferably
under the name mauve which is just occupied by the Java tests).

It would be really helpful if you couÃld send me the precise e-mail
address of these lists.

Kind regards
