Package: ffmpeg
Version: 0.cvs20050121-1

ffmpeg will not accept a .avi format file as stdin. Inputting a .mpg file
into stdin does work.
Here

cat foo-001.avi | ffmpeg -i - -target vcd foo-001.mpg

This command starts and finishes very quickly (too quickly). foo-001.mpg
is an empty file. No change in behavior if I specify the format (-f
option) as in:

cat foo-001.avi | ffmpeg -f avi -i - -target vcd foo-001.mpg

Just to check my syntax and procedure, I took the file I converted to mpg
(ffmpeg -i foo-001.avi -target vcd foo-001.mpg) and piped it back through
ffmpeg:

cat foo-001.mpg | ffmpeg -i - -target dvd foo-001a.mpg

and find that this works fine.

Package: ffmpeg

Severity: normal

I'm using two screens with Xinerama. Going fullscreen with video players
such as Totem only takes up the screen size from one monitor (the one
the window was currently in, as expected). However, ffmpeg doesn't
handle this gracefully. It takes up the entire virtual screen and
flickers badly.

I'm not sure how others handle this situation, but I would expect it's
not too difficult. Overall, this is a relatively minor bug, though.

When i try to show an image from a ffserver single jpeg output stream
the client browser keep downloading it forever. That's because ffserver
doesn't support a single jpeg stream and treat it as a multipart jpeg
sequence.

So i've made the follow path to correct the problem.
I've corrected the mime-type to image/jpeg as well.

The idea is just to close the connection after a jpeg frame has been
sent to client.

Package: ffmpeg
Version: 0.cvs20060823-8

I am trying to encode a video stream using ffmpeg (or indeed
ffmpeg2theora). The input data to be encoded comes from a series of
netpbm runes, one small shell scriptlet per frame.

Ideally I would like to use the `image2pipe' format but this has a
critical bug which AFAICT renders it unuseable: I saw a number of
messages about `buffer underruns' and some other messages and the
resulting output was unplayable. I used
 ffmpeg -f image2pipe -i pipe:.ppm ...
and variations thereon, without success. ffmpeg2theora didn't work
either.

I straced ffmpeg and found that it was occasionally getting short
reads from the input pipe. That is, read(2) would sometimes return a
smaller number than it had asked for. This is expected behaviour. I
suspect (but I have no direct evidence) that ffmpeg is mishandling
this case.

I rearranged my program to use -f image2 and then everything worked
fine, so I know that it's the handling of piped input that is the
problem.

I'm afraid I don't have any more the version of my processing script
which I can use to reproduce this error but a quick web search
suggests other people sometimes have the same problem. I can try to
produce a test case if you really want but I think my first route to
debugging at this point would be to check the code for the mistake I
suspect as I describe above.

Ian.

Package: ffmpeg
Version: 0.cvs20060823-8
Severity: wishlist

I am trying to encode a video stream using ffmpeg (or indeed
ffmpeg2theora). The input data to be encoded comes from a series of
netpbm runes, one small shell scriptlet per frame.

Ideally I would like to use the `image2pipe' format but this has a
critical bug which AFAICT renders it unuseable. See my other report.

Instead I provide ffmpeg with a directory full of named pipes, for use
by -f image2. However, there are two problems:

1. ffmpeg opens and then closes many prospective files right at the
start, apparently trying to figure out which files exist so it knows
how many frames there are. There is no need to open the files at this
stage - stat() or access() would be the right calls to use.

2. When it actually starts encoding, ffmpeg lseeks each file right
after opening it, apparently trying to find out its length. This is
not necessary: in particular, we know that it's not supposed to be
necessary at all (or at least it's unnecessary for many frame image
formats) because the image2pipe format is supposed to be able to
achieve the same thing.

I observed these behaviours in strace. I solved my problem with a
subterfugue trick, which makes it seem to ffmpeg that these things are
all plain seekable files even though in fact they're pipes which are
opened and written to by the data provider in order. This is
obviously less than ideal.

Ian.

Package: ffmpeg
Version: 0.svn20080206-18
Severity: normal

I'm using the following command to create a avi from a sequence of
jpegs:

ffmpeg -intra -an -sameq -i images/store_%05d.jpg -vcodec mjpeg
output.avi

Around frame 2 I get a segmentation fault producing the following
backtrace:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
[Switching to Thread 0xf73c46c0 (LWP 11201)]

First I thought it was a bad jpeg (attached). So I filled a directory
with 22500 symbolic links to the attached jpeg.

When trying to run the same ffmpeg command I get an identical segfault,
always happening around frame 214xx. Remeber all frames are simply
links that point to the attached jpeg.

This happens both in the lenny ffmpeg, and the ffmpeg included in
debian multimedia.

I just installed the ffmpeg-dbg package which gives the following in
gdb:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

Package: ffmpeg
Version: 4:0.5+svn20090706-6
Severity: wishlist

The SVN snapshot in Debian is now over 7 months old and lacks e.g.
the AMR support that is now possible with libraries already in Debian.

It would be great to see an updated ffmpeg in Debian.

Thanks in advance

   [ Jonas Smedegaard ]
   * Update copyright file: New authors, new license: PD.
   * Update watch file, and CDBS and git-buildpackage hints:
 + Switch to bzip2 compression.
+ Add comment on usage to watch file.
+ add uversionmangle to work around url-escaped ~.
+ Drop dversionmangle (workaround for rerelease of 0.5.4).
+ Adjust git-buildpackage config to use experimental branches.
   * Re-register new upstream release as truly pristine tarball.
   * LASH uses D-bus now, and lash_control - rewritten in Python - makes
 use of it:
 + Add build-dependency on libdbus-1-dev.
+ Have lash-bin depend on python and python-dbus (not
${python:Depends} as our python library is not used here).
+ Include D-bus and DTD files in lashd package.
+ Have lashd depend on dbus, and recommend dbus-x11.

Bug#486568: entertainer: changing back from ITP to RFP

2010-05-24 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
retitle 486568 RFP: entertainer -- Media Center for Gnome/XFCE Desktops
noowner 486568
thanks

Hi,

This is an automatic email to change the status of entertainer back from ITP
(Intent to Package) to RFP (Request for Package), because this bug hasn't seen
any activity during the last 18 months.

If you are still interested in adopting entertainer, please send a mail to
cont...@bugs.debian.org with:

retitle 486568 ITP: entertainer -- Media Center for Gnome/XFCE Desktops
 owner 486568 !
 thanks

However, it is not recommended to keep ITP for a long time without acting on
the package, as it might cause other prospective maintainers to refrain from
packaging that software. It is also a good idea to document your progress on
this ITP from time to time, by mailing 486...@bugs.debian.org.

Thank you for your interest in Debian,

Bug#582938: mute buttons disabled by default in ardour

2010-05-24 Thread Adrian Knoth
On Mon, May 24, 2010 at 05:58:18PM +, scottalaven...@gmail.com wrote:

When mute buttons for any particular track are picked the track does not
mute, rather than the expected action of muting the track.

Confirmed. This is a rather nasty thing, because it's hidden for all
long-term ardour users (like me) and only exposed to first-time users.

This has been also been reported in Ubuntu and a patch is being worked on
which will be pushed back upstream to Debian (probably via quadrispro
 of the Debian Multimedia team):
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntustudio/+bug/581786

I guess this patch will also be pushed to real upstream. If need be, I
could take care of this.

If you want me to (co-)work on the patch, just ping me, I have some
spare cycles until midnight. (CEST) ;)

may be bug in libopenal1 or libopenal-dev.

I'm pretty confident that this is actually bug #548373. If you still

Package: mplayer
Version: 1.0~rc1-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.2.1

Hi!

First of all, many thanks for the hard work that was necessary to get
MPlayer into Debian! :-)

There seems to be still a licensing issue, though... :-(
According to its debian/copyright[1], mplayer includes a file named
mmx.h, whose licensing status is:

| File: mmx.h
| Copyright: 1997-99 by H. Dietz and R. Fisher
| License:
| THIS SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED ``AS IS'' AND WITHOUT ANY
| EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING, WITHOUT
| LIMITATION, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY
| AND FITNESS FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

Well, this is a disclaimer of warranty, not a license.
Where's the permission to redistribute (DFSG#1)?
Where's the permission to modify (DFSG#3)?

Assuming the one quoted above is the whole license for the file,
mmx.h does *not* comply with the DFSG and is *not* even distributable!

The legal status of this file should be clarified, in order to get
it under a DFSG-free license.

BTW, there's another issue: the debian/copyright[1] file states:

| Name: GSM 06.10 library
| Version:patchlevel 10
| Homepage: http://kbs.cs.tu-berlin.de/~jutta/toast.html
| Copyright 1992 by Jutta Degener and Carsten Bormann, Technische Universitaet
Berlin
| Directory: libmpcodecs/native/
| License:

| WARRANTY FOR THIS SOFTWARE.
| As a matter of courtesy, the authors request to be informed about
| uses this software has found, about bugs in this software, and about
| any improvements that may be of general interest.

The term use is vague and could be interpreted in a strict sense
as meaning only to run or to execute the library.
This license should be clarified: persuading upstream to change
the first line in

] Any reproduction and use of this software, with or without modification,
] is permitted provided that this notice is

would suffice to make it unambiguously DFSG-free.

The debian/copyright file for mplayer still lists the old mmx.h license.

this has been fixed first in ubuntu version
2:1.0~rc3+svn20090426-1ubuntu6, and that version has now reached debian
as well:

mplayer (2:1.0~rc3+svn20090426-1ubuntu6) karmic; urgency=low

  * Enable VDPAU support by including vdpau headers in deb packaging.

  [ Reinhard Tartler ]
  * sort build dependencies alphabetically
  * avoid using tabs - prefer space instead
  * reenable 22disable-xscreensaver.patch. The patch does work, but you
need to have the mouse cursor INSIDE the window
  * don't build-depend on libmad, the internal mp3lib library is superiour
for most cases these days, according to upstream. LP: #111025, #163382
  * add clarifications to the libgsm license.
  * install the TOOLS/midentify.sh script LP: #333828

[OT] External audio interface recommendations?

2010-05-24 Thread Felipe Sateler
I'm looking for an external audio interface, something that is not
crap like the Intel HDA that comes with my laptop :p. Do you have any
recommendations of interfaces that work well with Linux? I do not need
lots of channels, I just need 2 ins and 2 outs, so nothing really
fancy.
