I think there is no problem beyond relaxing dependencies in _one_
direction but not the other:
* Apps should depend on libs
* Libs should suggest daemons
* Daemons should depend on libs and (at most) recommend apps

ALSA need not be in another package, since a system without alsa would
be really weird.
I think just demoting the pulse and roar depends to Recommends is
enough (AFAIK, this can be done with some dh_shlibdeps magic).

Then I downloaded debian's version of scons and installed it in the natty chroot. The problem disappeared.
