Hello,

Permission to /dev/input/ nodes is required to get input events from
svgalib. These nodes are not normally accessible to unprivileged users as
it would enable key logging other users on multi-user systems. Since Debian
VLC cannot run as root, you'd need to give your user permission to read
those files.

In any case, support for svgalib has been dropped upstream. You should
really consider switching to the FrameBuffer instead.

I have gotten a couple of game packages, sopwith and slashem-sdl to work
with SDL, so SDL seems to be working in frame buffer mode.
No matter what the environmental configuration variable SDL_VIDEODRIVER
is set to (usually 'fbcon'), however, vlc -V sdl ... always
plays in cacalib mode.
This seems to defeat the purpose of vlc-plugin-sdl.
I think I've checked everything, but it is possible I am
simply ignorant of how things should be configured
to utilize this package.

   Hello,

VLC versions 1.0.x and earlier override the SDL_VIDEO_DRIVER variable.
This should be fixed in newer versions. That being noted, SDL should select
the best available driver. If it picks cacalib, then probably nothing else
works (especially X11 and FrameBuffer).

Package: vlc

VLC media player is vulnerable to a buffer overflow attack when processing
.mp3 file and its metadata. It fails to perform boundry checks when creating a
bookmark from the malicious media file playing, resulting in a crash,
overwriting ECX register. While the evil .mp3 is playing, you go Playback
Bookmarks Manage bookmarks Create.

I have requested CVE-identifier for this vulnerability:
http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2011/03/02/3

Sample evil-file freezed my X and I needed to restart whole X to get control
over GUI. I can give debug-information/logs if needed.

Can someone update tracker TEMP-000-57DB88? Note obscure exploit scenario,
not reproducible is not true in my opinion.

   Hello,

I am unable to reproduce the problem with VLC 1.1 and the playlist tree
option enabled. Please make sure the XSPF file actually has a tree
structure, otherwise it is to be expected that it shows flat. An easy way
to check that the tree playlist works consists of opening a directory with
subdirectories inside.

Package: vlc
Version: 0.8.6.a.debian-1
Severity: normal

While streaming N.American video from Asia, there is often insufficient
bandwidth. Xine and mplayer handle this but halting playback and
rebuffering, then resuming playback. vlc, however, first loses sound,
continues to play video for a little while, then playback permanently
stops in mid-stream. vlc really needs to be able to rebuffer
bandwidth-challenged streams.

(vlc seems to be faster/more efficient then xine and mplayer at the
moment, and of the three, is the only player that will cleanly play
video on one of my 500 MHz Thinkpads. Keep up the good work!!)

Package: vlc-nox

Severity: normal

'SettingsExtended_GUIVideoimage_adjustment
(Contrast/Brightness/etc.)' doesn't work on a still video image.
Adjusting the colors and values of a changing picture is far more
difficult than adjusting a still picture.

If the hardware interface is an obstacle, then as a kludge I suggest an
algorithm something like:

Is an image adjustment control in use?

yes

is the image paused?

Copy paused image to special buffer, display
that through standard X methods, temporarily,
in place of the low level hardware buffer driver.

If user changes any setting, display that dynamically
on top of special buffer.

when image is no longer paused, switch back to standard low level
driver.

Failing that, 'vlc' might perhaps be made to display an endlessly
looped 1-frame video of some appropriate test pattern when adjusting,
or perhaps superimpose the test pattern above part of the video.

If it matters, my video card is:

% lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV15DDR [GeForce2 Ti]
(rev a4)

Using the standard X 'nv' driver.

Hope this helps...

Bug#448566: vlc: 'image adjustment' sliders lack hotkeys

2011-07-19 Thread Rémi Denis-Courmont
tags 448566 + wontfix upstream
thanks

   Hello,

If you really want to use the keyboard, you can use tab, space and arrows
to control the advanced settings dialog. I really don't see the point in
defining hot keys for this. I fact, I don't think hotkeys make much sense
for slider widgets at all.

Regards,

Bug#634627: stk: debian/control uses hardcoded list of non-Linux architectures

2011-07-19 Thread Robert Millan
Package: stk
Severity: wishlist
User: debian-de...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: linux-any

The debian/control file in stk uses a negated list of architectures
to specify a package relationship (most likely Build-Depends) on a
Linux-specific package. I.e. something like:

 Build-Depends: libfoo-dev [!kfreebsd-i386 !kfreebsd-amd64 !hurd-i386]

This is problematic because it will fail for any future kfreebsd-* or hurd-*
architecture (like the upcoming kfreebsd-mipsel port). The correct way
would be to use dpkg architecture wildcards, e.g.:

 Build-Depends: libfoo-dev [linux-any]

Please consider making this adjustment to make life easier for future
porting efforts.

Thanks!

Package: libbluray0
Version: 0.2~git20110613.e93aa91-1
Severity: serious

Upstream has changed the api of at least one public function, namely
bd_get_title_info(), which makes packages using these functions most
probably segfault at runtime, if not worse.

On IRC, ricotz and I agreed on reverting the package to the previous
version until upstream does a proper new release.

Cheers,
Reinhard

The debian/control file in amsynth uses a negated list of architectures
to specify a package relationship (most likely Build-Depends) on a
Linux-specific package. I.e. something like:

 Build-Depends: libfoo-dev [!kfreebsd-i386 !kfreebsd-amd64 !hurd-i386]

This is problematic because it will fail for any future kfreebsd-* or hurd-*
architecture (like the upcoming kfreebsd-mipsel port). The correct way
would be to use dpkg architecture wildcards, e.g.:

 Build-Depends: libfoo-dev [linux-any]

Please consider making this adjustment to make life easier for future
porting efforts.

Thanks!

Bug#634702: ices2: debian/control uses hardcoded list of non-Linux architectures

2011-07-19 Thread Robert Millan
Package: ices2
Severity: wishlist
User: debian-de...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: linux-any

The debian/control file in ices2 uses a negated list of architectures
to specify a package relationship (most likely Build-Depends) on a
Linux-specific package. I.e. something like:

 Build-Depends: libfoo-dev [!kfreebsd-i386 !kfreebsd-amd64 !hurd-i386]

This is problematic because it will fail for any future kfreebsd-* or hurd-*
architecture (like the upcoming kfreebsd-mipsel port). The correct way
would be to use dpkg architecture wildcards, e.g.:

 Build-Depends: libfoo-dev [linux-any]

Please consider making this adjustment to make life easier for future
porting efforts.

Thanks!

Grepping over a copy of the ffmpeg sources, I find ldl in
inline-assembler fragments in various files, such as intreadwrite.h.
These are #ifdefed checking for ARCH_MIPS64, which is set by the
 configure script.

Unfortunately the configure script checks 'uname -m' for the
architecture, which might be mips64 when running debian on a 64-bit
kernel (this happens, e.g. when running with the loongson kernels
 shipped by debian).

 Forcing ./configure --arch=mips/mipsel might help.

That makes sense to me. I'll add --arch=$(DEB_BUILD_CPU) to the
configure line for the next upload.

Why aren't the builds done under 'linux32'? Doing that would cause
uname to return the proper values for an o32 build.

The complete userspace *is* o32, just the kernel is not. I think that
is a pretty valid way to run a system, compiling the kernel for mips64
gives better performance on those machines that can run mips64 code.

A mips64 kernel can run 32 and 64-bit architecture binaries, and has to
pick one description when asked via 'uname -m'. The 'setarch' tool can
be used to configure which architecture that is.

I.e. athough my machine usually returns 'mips64' on 'uname -m', after
running, 'setarch mips' it returns just 'mips'. Maybe that'd be a a
cleaner way to fix the problem for all package builds?

cheers,

Someday, in an ideal world with full multilib support, mips and mips64 both
become valid targets on the same host. There are a lot of packages whose
configure script is dumbed down to assume mips when uname returns mips64.
Still, I've always used the configure argument and/or environment to make it
explicit that I'm building 32 bit.

When I open an xspf playlist that contains xspf files, it is displayed
as a flat list of files instead of a tree.

Note: the option Display playlist tree is ticked, in case this
matters.

I've been a bit MIA the past few weeks/months, but we already have a
package in the works. Please check it out of our git repository[1] and
check if any of your fixes still apply. We would be very happy to have
you join us in maintaining this package!

Thanks for this link. Of course I searched around but this one was
 hidden from view.

To build the debian-git-checkout both patches [1,2] are still needed
 here.

 Thanks for the patches.

Without the wiimote fix it I get:

  Source/lang/LangPrimSource/SC_Wii.cpp: In member function
    'cwiid_wiimote_t* SC_WIIManager::discover()':
  Source/lang/LangPrimSource/SC_Wii.cpp:364:12: error: taking address
    of temporary [-fpermissive]
  scons: *** [Source/lang/LangPrimSource/SC_Wii.os] Error 1

Today I imported the new release 3.4.4 of supercollider, which already
 has this fix, hooray.

 I've successfully test-built supercollider and test-drove it. I will
upload it to unstable soon (tomorrow hopefully) if no objections
 arise.

Uploading now. Dan, please check if the chdir=1 options can be removed from
the make_local_links calls because it breaks parallel builds.
