Hi,

Due to the lack of time and interest, I intend to orphan
terminatorx soon.

The package is in good shape and upstream is active,

Thanks for considering.

Upstream's latest release is available since January 2016:

Unfortunately I haven't found yet enough time to upgrade the package
and fix the RC issue.

Thanks for pointing this out, I apologize for having thought that
CC'ing the team was enough.

I'm quite time-starved, therefore I prefer to see my packages being
taken care by those who can allocate more time than me.
I'll be issuing another couple of O: rounds and I'll be dropping here
a list of packages I'm no longer interested in beforehand (i.e.:
before and not past actually running `reportbug -B debian wnpp), in
the meantime feel free to pick *any* of my multimedia packages if you
feel like to.

As an aside note, I'll file an O: bug for all those packages for which
I am the sole mentioned in the Uploaders list.

It's a long standing issue, upstream releases it under a sort GPL with
a commercial exception [1], that makes

 1. no sense at all
 2. the whole software package in conflict with the GPL itself

I don't think we could even upload it to non-free, though I'm not 100% sure.

This has already been debated in debian-legal [1], and another
possible interpretation follows:

Probably not, according to some interpretations (the GPL does not allow
adding restrictions. The author can distribute the work, since he/she is the
author, but noone else can distribute a work licensed in this way).

Nope, it won't, though both the build the runtime dependencies are
highly recommended by upstream.

i also wonder why there is an arch-specification in the 'Suggests':

Well, no clear answer here, we should investigate with git blame. I

Bug#792593: lives: please make the build reproducible

2015-07-16 Thread Alessio Treglia
Hi Gabriel,

How are you doing? Hope it's all good.
I received this email from the Debian Reproducible builds team which
brought a patch up to my attention to make the build of lives
reproducible from sources.
Please see the following message:

On Thu, Jul 16, 2015 at 4:15 PM, Dhole dh...@openmailbox.org wrote:
While working on the “reproducible builds” effort [1], we have noticed
that lives could not be built reproducibly. During the building of the
plugins from script files, the onchange entires appear in random
ordering as they are stored in a hash and then iterated by the hash keys
(who's order can differ between runs).

The attached patch sorts the onchange entries when building plugins from
scripts to make the package build reproducible.

Once applied, lives can be built reproducibly in our
 current experimental framework.

Please also consider forwarding this patch upstream.

  [1]: https://wiki.debian.org/ReproducibleBuilds

You may find the patch attached, it is quite small and non-invasive.
I think it would be great if you could apply it upstream.

Thanks for considering.

Mmmno, wait, don't use Conflicts. Instead I suggest to put

Breaks: libgpac3 (= 0.5.2-426-gc5ad4e4~dfsg4-1)
Replaces: libgpac3

into libgpac4's stanza. Why and what would be the consequences?

 1. the Breaks field says that libgpac4 is uninstallable with a
libgpac3's specific version. That allows users to keep old versions of
libgpac3 installed along with libgpac4 and makes the transition
smoother.
 2. the Replaces field would allow libgpac4 to overwrite files
installed by the libgpac3's sole broken version.

I guess you've already got in touch with the release team. If you
haven't yet, we'll have to inform them about this issue as soon as

No one claims the leadership here, so you can't either I am afraid.

 From: https://wiki.debian.org/DebianMultimedia :

Correct, nevertheless other members of the team on IRC expressed some
doubts about the subtle message conveyed by your blog post's title:
Debian is preparing the transition to FFmpeg! - not to mention other
parts of the contents (Ending an era of shipping Libav [...] the
Debian Multimedia Team is working out the last details of switching to
FFmpeg).
I do believe that a different wording wouldn't have caused the same reactions.

Cheers.

Hi there,

I've applied the attached patch to the Debian's din package to fix a
small issue [1], and I thought you might be interested in doing the
same.

Thanks for considering.

I'm implying that users have been asking for what they need (ffmpeg) for a

Well, that is an alleged opinion, not fact. Conversely libav backers

Re: Select provider of libav* libraries

2015-05-09 Thread Alessio Treglia
Hi,

Admittedly seems there is more activity on FFmpeg's than libav's side.
It does not necessarily reflect into higher quality though - plus,
libav is not dead at all as they're still releasing new versions and
providing support and fixes for a number of stable branches.
I'm personally getting very well with libav and apparently it is
enough to meet all my needs too. Nevertheless others are encountering
issues that they claim are solved with FFmpeg, so that might be a
solution which could make many users happy.

I'm not going to vote on this now as I really need to hear an opinion
from the libav's current maintainer, Reinhard Tartler.
I genuinely believe that we all need to hear an opinion from him
before taking any further action.

Cheers.

'Evening Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am afraid that I have to revive this discussion once again now that

The need to get this dichotomy solved may be found in Moritz's last email:

at the beginning of the release cycle is the time to make a decision,
not by dragging things into a year as of today. Picking one of the two
won't be any simpler in 12 months.

It appears clear to me that the security team wouldn't be too happy to
support both FFmpeg and libav:
Therefore the question still remains:

Bug#778866: videotrans: movie-title terminates without doing anything

2015-02-23 Thread Alessio Treglia

Hi,

movie1.m2v movie2.m2v, but that didn't have any effect.
Not having any effect means that there was no output or files generated or
anything else. Tje program just stops imediately without any message and the
 exit code 1.
Doing some debugging I figured out that the script terminates at a read in
 line
279, but couldn't figure out why.

Please run the script again via bash with the '-x' option added to the
command line, e.g.:

   $ bash -x movie-title -o title.vob -t title movie1.m2v movie2.m2v

Thanks in advance.
