Hi,

I just cleaned up the list of team members on alioth according to the
replies we got.
If you were removed, and intend to keep working in the team, it's of
course perfectly fine to ask to be added back!

The team has 6 DDs, which means that sponsorship requests should be easy
to fullfill if everybody participates (hint hint).

 2) Packages
The team is currently Maintainer or Uploader for 169 packages. While we have
some very actively (and well) maintained packages, it's quite clear that, for
most of them, nobody has been caring about them for a long time.

I committed to SVN a list of packages that nobody wants to maintain.
I don't think that we need to act on them right now, but we should
clearly address them during the wheezy cycle.

Re: [DRE-maint] [IMPORTANT] future of pkg-ruby-extras

2011-01-26 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Hi,

Heh, thank you for your mail. I have a very clear memory that you were
my first sponsor in Debian more than 5 years ago.
And it has always been a pleasure to work with you (we need to have some
beers in FOSDEM).

I think I should clarify my position too, since saying that I'm giving
up, and then staying around and leading the discussion on the changes
for wheezy is a bit confusing.
I'm still deeply pissed off with many things related to Ruby, but the
discussion following my resignation post motivated me again to work on
*some* things. So I am going to work on things I care about, and that
includes those deep changes planned for Wheezy.

Regarding my involvement in this team, I will not fall in the trap of
being the center point where most sponsorship requests go. I know that
it's often very hard to find a sponsor inside Debian, and that sucks.
But as a DD, it's also very hard to be constantly a bottleneck, and live
with the feeling that we are not doing our jobs due to latencies
elsewhere. Spending a lot of time addressing sponsorship requests
prevents me from doing the fun things I'd like to do, too.

Several DDs (complete list of people who replied in this thread:
drazzib, gwolf, roberto, deepak, fourmond, noahm, paulvt) are member of
this team, and I hope that they will handle their share of sponsorship
requests.
Also, I'd like the more experienced members of this team, even if they
are not DDs, to dedicate some time to reviews. That way I can know that
someone else already took a look at the changes. Additionally, some of
them should really consider applying for being a DD.
Finally, this is a team. When looking at sponsorship requests, I will
prioritize people who are caring about the global status, and not only
about maintaining their own packages. I think that's fair. Remember that
caring about the global picture is a very important thing in Debian.

Thanks Lucas for your amazing past work. Even if we still have much

I maintain a few Ruby packages:
  - activeldap

  - libfeedtools-ruby
  - libuuidtools-ruby
  - rbot
and i intend to continue my work on them. I'm also still available for

Quoting Lucas Nussbaum lu...@lucas-nussbaum.net:

Arnaud is in some deep tired phase, and is willing to pass such kind
of responsabilities onto other persons. Maintainer changes is already
going on for some of his packages, but several are still missing good
will. I'm personally taking care of webgen since a while, but as i
don't use the GNOME desktop anymore, i can't really help for
ruby-gnome2 besides sponsoring occasionally.

I guess these meta-pkgs don't require much work and they will be alright

I personally find it quite practical, as i'm a lazy boy ;-).

FWIW, I am willing to do sponsoring. I very (_very_!) seldom get

a regular listener), but have not seen them.

Anyway - People, feel free to bug me for sponsorship requests.

2011-01-12 Thread Deepak Tripathi
Hi,

Yes you are right, I am co-maintainer of those packages, Here are the reason
why i haven't took any action.

1) libxml had one file missing from upstream tar ball, after sending couple
of mails to upstream author, I haven't received any reply from him till now,
i would like upstream to understand this situation and update the tar ball
or could have respond the mail so that i can make the patch and update to
the system.

2) libcompass, I was busy with my official schedule and primary maintainer
was agreed to remove it.

Rest of my packages are bug free and couple of them i had taken release team
permission and asked them to accept it. For ex , libaddressable-ruby,
libdataobjects-ruby. I have couple of ITPs , So will be in full swing after
release :) .

[DRE-maint] [IMPORTANT] future of pkg-ruby-extras

2011-01-07 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Hi,

The pkg-ruby-extras group has existed for a long time. It serves an
important purpose - but it has grown a bit crufty. This means, we have
several people listed who are not active in the group anymore, and we
have many packages nobody is taking care of. And that's not good.

As you might know, I have decided to reduce my involvement in Debian
Ruby (see http://www.lucas-nussbaum.net/blog/?p=617 for details). I
don't know yet what I will continue to do, and it might very well be
nothing.

During the last months, I feel that I was the main DD feeling
responsible for the pkg-ruby-extras team. While leaving, I don't want
to leave it in a bad state, so I'd like to clean up its state first.
There are two sides of it, team members and packages.

1) Team members
We currently have 52 team members listed on alioth, which is a lot
considered the number of active members.

So, if you want to stay a member of the team (which is fine, I
encourage you to continue to contribute to the team, and I'm also
planning to stay a member for now!), please reply to this mail within
the following two weeks, stating your alioth login. If you don't
reply, you will be removed from the team.

2) Packages
The team is currently Maintainer or Uploader for 169 packages. While we have
some very actively (and well) maintained packages, it's quite clear that, for
most of them, nobody has been caring about them for a long time.

Please reply to this mail, stating which packages you care about and
want to continue to maintain as part of the team. Also, if you
worked on any of the mentioned packages and do not feel it is needed
anymore, please tell me so we can remove it more easily. I will orphan
the packages without someone willing to maintain them — And, if they
have not been part of any stable release and have no rdepends, I will
request the release managers to remove them from Squeeze (and later
on, possibly from Debian).
