When moving mediawiki_api from github for gerrit, we have asked for mediawiki/api, but it was rejected and we got mediawiki/ruby/api. I was recently updating list of repositories that cause irc bot to ping #wikimedia-qa[5] and it came to my mind that moving mediawiki/selenium to mediawiki/ruby/selenium would make sense. # Question What do you think? [QA] beta cluster is too busy
Hello, Yesterday a patch landed in MediaWiki core that causes the database update script to update a bunch of tables and do a lot of queries on the database. The slave database is thus lagged out by 4+ hours as I write this and that causes a bunch of errors when browsing the beta sites. There is a few more details on: populateBacklinkNamespace script causing massive slave lag on beta https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68349 Bryan Davis pointed me to a quite useful link to check the database lag: http://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/w/index.php?maxlag=-1 Jenkins is still processing the upgrade of simplewiki which is the largest wiki on beta cluster. Nothing is listening at https://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/ HTTPS used to respond, but it would provide an invalid certificate, forcing the user to confirm the navigation. Now HTTPS seems to be gone altogether. Hi Zeljko Thanks for the steps by step run through. I am currently still configuring Git which requires quite a few tasks and running into its own problems which I spent most of my day :)The Git setup is nearing completion and I just finish the Run ssh section and will be moving onto the Download the Examples extension using Git next.This will definitely be good for a pairing session but I would like to see how I get on by myself. But I am starting to get a bit concern on the amount of time I used just gathering up new information on Git configuration. As most of this since day, was very new. I am free this week minus Friday because I need to take my dad for a hospital scan all day. Agree, I did followed the book but rarely took the time to do all the exercise's which was wrong of me to do and it was a rookie mistake. I will make sure in the future to take the time to do the exercises. I have gone through the cucumber books prior to asking this issue but its still not making sense :( That is strange. Did you do all exercises from the book? It is hard to learn stuff like this by just reading about it. Practicing (by writing code) is essential. You can not learn how to run a marathon by just reading books. There is a lot of running involved. The same is with coding. Just reading does not do the trick. You have to wear out a keyboard (or six). It seems odd that such a modest batch size with wfWaitForSlaves() could cause so much lag anywhere. It seems like something is off somewhere.
