Looks like an All Rounder to me.

On the camera topic … most of my pictures are from my iPhone SEv2. My recent
photos of my blue Waterford ST-22 were taken with an Olympus OM-D E-5mkII with
a Panasonic/Leica 20mm/f1.7 lens. Given than I usually have a handlebar bag, I
really should just carry that camera all the time. It’s quite light and
compact, and the 20mm lens is a gem. I have a fleece bag that it fits in,
protecting it from bumps and scratches. I’ve thought about getting an Olympus
PEN E body, which would be even more compact, but it hasn’t seemed worth it.

Re: [RBW] TPU inner tubes - Anyone using them?

2024-05-13 Thread Ted Durant
Further update. The patch on my 584x48 has held nicely, though I haven't
ridden it yet. Meanwhile, the rear tire on my ST-22 (622x32) turned up flat
yesterday. I took the opportunity to take out my Riv Road (622x32) and
enjoyed a very fast (for me) ride. This evening I pulled the tube from the
ST-22 and found a tiny hole. Exactly like the 584x48, I found a tiny bit of
wire in the outer tread but not apparently poking through the inner casing.
I patched and replaced the tube without incident. Alcohol wipe and Park
glueless (MacOS still wants that to be clueless) patch, applied with the
tube inflated.

The fact that I've easily removed, patched, and reinstalled a couple of
tubes strengthens my belief that the tubes that failed on installation were
probably defective. It also gives me a bit more confidence in the tubes
(and my ability to repair in the field) going forward. They sure feel good
when riding.

No word from RH on whether they're going to refund/replace the tubes I
returned to them.

[RBW] Re: Will the 50cm Susie be too small?

2024-05-13 Thread Aaron Wilson
You might want to compare the stack and reach of your bikes with the Susie,
but you'll need to be careful. If you've added a lot of headset spacers (or
a long quill stem) to your bikes to get them upright, that'll effectively
increase their stack and decrease their reach (because of the angle of the
headtube). The Susie has a pretty high stack, so you'd probably need fewer
spacers to get the bar height you want (making its reach feel greater if
you just compared the frame specs to bikes where you used more spacers).

Does that make sense? Please, someone correct me if I'm thinking about this
wrong.

[RBW] FS 48 Sam Hillborne $3000 OBO plus shipping

2024-05-13 Thread Jonathan D.
I am selling for my ex-wife a 48 mm Sam Hillborne. I purchased the frame
and built it up at a local shop. The bike has hardly been ridden since It
was built up. I am happy to share details and take any additional photos. I
plan to keep the rack and can include the basket if it fits in the box.
Rich built wheels and dynamo hub but don't currently have a light on it. I
can see if I have one to include. Bike is in PDX.

But, yeah. Toyo. It's possible there was proto-model built stateside, but I
cannot recall that being the case.

In the open shade, that has a bit more of a "current" look to the orange
than original. I'd want to verify that it wasn't a repaint. The original
orange was a complex paint job.
If it had actual sunlight falling on the image, it would be easier to

[RBW] Will the 50cm Susie be too small?

2024-05-13 Thread John C
Hey y’all, longtime lurker here. Looking to potentially pick up my first
Riv and have a few questions about sizing. Maybe someone with similar
measurements and own a Susie/Gus could chime in.

I’m looking at the 50cm in gold color. Riv says:

   - 50cm (650B wheels): 74-76cm. Saddle height: 63cm to 65cm
   - 53cm (650B wheels): 77-88cm. Saddle height: 66cm to 77cm

My PBH is: 76.5cm-78cm measured multiple times. I’m 5’6 with a longer
torso.

Saddle height: 64cm (most of my bikes are Riv inspired vtg MTBs with
upright bars and this feels comfy for me)

Seems like I'm on the edge between Med / Small. Can the small fit without
feeling too cramped? FWIW, I rode a Gus test bike years ago at Rivelo here
in PDX while it was still open. They were fantastic, but unfortunately I
can't remember if I rode a small or med size frame.

Re: [RBW] Re: Upright / Relaxed / Swept-Back - Style of Riding

2024-05-13 Thread David Ross
I’m a similar rider in terms of age and issues. I just sold my last drop
bar bike and the bars were very neutral and slightly above the saddle. I
absolutely loved that bike but I just can’t ride drops at this point. All
of my bikes now have swept bars and it makes a huge difference. I’m riding
deep sweeps on all my bikes at this point with the bars anywhere from 1-3
inches above the saddle. The reason this works well for me is that I’m able
to move my hands up and down the bars depending on terrain and also move my
hands to stretch my back and prevent pain.

Just a heads up if you find a used 700c Roadini hoping to swap parts to a
new frame later, only the 2020 and later take long reach brakes. Before
that the 47cm / 650b was long reach and the 700c sizes were medium reach.

Bleriot is, how the fenders are so smart in keeping my sandal'd feet clean
while being helpful to whoever might be behind me, and how neat it is that
I'm still fast "enough" to keep pace despite not having the roadie-culture
promoted bike, shoes, or clothing :)

Leah, I wish you the best on your road bike journey! I admire your
commitment to Rivendells (an easy brand to commit to honestly), and hope a
Roadeo comes along either at a good deal or with beautiful lugs to add to
 your hella colorful collection

Still not utilizing this guy so let's find a new, hopefully local-ish home
for this wonderful steed.

$3,000, local pickup/meet up preferred, no saddles included.

Thanks :)

Re: [RBW] TPU inner tubes - Anyone using them?

2024-05-13 Thread Chris Fly
Well, between this thread and some others on other forums I've read, I see
no reason to stray away from my latex tubes in my Serotta or my butyl tubes
in my other bikes.. and, honestly, I can't see TPU riding any better than
latex.. and I don't mind pumping my tires, gives me a reason to use that
Silca pump I got for Christmas.. ;^)

Maybe I'll try the sealant in tube thing at some point if I start needing
to..
