Good morning, I have just installed SUSE Linux 10.0 SuSe recognised my scanner with Flatbedscanner 23 (as also Microsoft does on Windows). [sane-devel] Umax Astra 2100U, working driver!
Hello, I've patched the umax1220u-common.c in the u1220 backend to make a 2100U work. I hope this will support 2000U and 1600U as well. There is one caveat. The scanner scans too much horizontally, under the plastic cover. Also buttons on top are not supported. It supports all mode up to 600x600 dpi. Here is the file attached, just overwrite it and recompile. Of course we need a way to incorporate it without affecting the 1220U. Reports any bugs you can find. Thank you. [sane-devel] Information on Visioneer 9320 OneTouch Scanner
Hi, On 2006-03-24 15:46, James Liggett wrote: I was going through your supported devices list today, and I saw that there's no entry for my scanner, a Visioneer 9320 OneTouch USB. I thought it would be a good idea for me to provide some info on it. Thanks. I'll add the scanner to our lists. Output of sane-find-scanner -v -v Can we see the full output including the tests for the chip sets, please? I thought you'd also like to know that I'm looking to write a backend for this scanner; AFAIK no existing backend supports it. Right now I'm in the process of reverse-engineering the Windows driver (I don't have access to documentation.) Unfortunately, this scanner's driver is fairly complex, so I probably won't have anything useful for quite some time. A first step would be to write a test for sane-find-scanner (check-usb-chip.c) to look for the chipset used by this scanner if it's not yet detected by sane-find-scanner. Bye, Henning

If scanning works as root, it's just a permission issue. See the README.linux that comes with sane-backends for details. If this also doesn't work it may be that the scanner is already claimed by another program or the kernel. However this is more usual for multi-function devices. Updating to a current version of sane-backends should help in this case. Bye, Henning

As for the EPSON AVASYS Public Licence (EAPL, formerly EKPL), it has an exception to the generic no reverse engineering that allows you to use reverse engineering in debugging problems in your customised version of the software (as required per LGPL). But then again, the protocol is not covered by that licence in any way that I can think of. # FYI, EPSON KOWA Corporation was renamed to EPSON AVASYS Corporation # about a year ago ... hence the change from EKPL to EAPL.
