I have used the Phaser 6120 package for 3 years, works fine on my Linux
system.
I can also print to it from my XP Guest on VirtualBox.

 Hope this helps..

Xerox said CUPS package does not cover scanner + plus:

I am using Debian Lenny on a PowerPC board ! That means I cannot use
precompiled packages which are not completly open source, because normaly
they are compiled for x86 Processors. E.g. cannot use brothers linux drivers
for their mfp. THIS MEANS I HAVE TO RELAY ON OPENSOURCE, as Xerox own
drivers do not work under PPC.

thanx

The usb interface looks simple enough, very few endpoints. Can you get
a trace of the windows driver making a small black and white scan
 using this
tool: http://www.pcausa.com/Utilities/UsbSnoop/ Then zip the log, and
send it to the list. Perhaps someone will recognize the protocol.

There are individuals on this list who will write and/or modify drivers.
Some do this for free or for hardware donation, others do it for payment.

[sane-devel] What device does Xerox Phaser 6180MFP use ? See output here..

2010-01-15 Thread Dipl.Geogr.G.Birkenfeld

Hi all,

I am absolutely new to Linux, but anyway I have been in contact with the
mantainer of xerox_mfp backend. He suggested to ask on this mailing list, if
somebody knows a compatible driver, or can do something about my problem:

I bought a Xerox Phaser 6180MFP lately, but I cannot use the scanner under
Linux because it is not listed and stated as compatible on sane-project.org.
But I tried to

1. run sane-find-scanner which gave me the USB ID...
2. found USB ID's (vendor and manufacturer) and added them in HEX to
xerox_mfp.conf 3. tried SANE_DEBUG_XEROX_MFP=9 scanimage -L which did not
work:

---

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something
different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and
detected by the sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read
the documentation which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

Output shows that driver was not able to communicate with device, probably
is if offline or it is not compatible driver. Are you sure scanner is
turned on, check lamp is lighting.

4. ran sane-find-scanner -v -v . The maintainer of Xerox_mfp suggested to
post this output (partwise) here, TO ASK YOU WETHER SOMEBODY KNOWS WHAT

[sane-devel] SANE Drivers on PowerPC (Debian lenny PPC) ?

2009-09-08 Thread Dipl.Geogr.G.Birkenfeld
Hi all,

   I have got a Brother 9450CDN All-in-one here, and I donnot see a
possibilty to run the scanner part under Debian Linux Lenny PPC (PowerPC
Architecture !!!). Have you got an Idea ? Already contacted a few people
about this issue, so I might get an Epson CX21 instead. I saw there is a
compatible SANE Driver, but can it be used under PowerPC Debian I
donnot know anything about Linux, so I guess recompiling the sources myself
would be quiet hard.
For my HP Officejet 7410 I just started Xsane the rest was automatic and
straight forward on my PPC. Will this be possible with Epson CX21 as well
???

Thanks for hints or even other suggestions.

G.Birkenfeld
