Along with the standard testing process knowledge, the ETL tester should
have good SQL proficiency and should have worked on Data/ETL projects. They
should have experience in the automation of test case execution to support
large volumes of test cases and regression testing using off-the-shelf
tools or applying the principles of off-the-shelf tools in in-house
processes. The ETL tester should be well versed in the ETL test execution
process. This is slightly different from other software test execution.
Starting withcleaning up the tables (truncating tables in the correct order
of referential integrity),setting up ETL parameter/control tables,
populating fabricated or mock data in the source tables, triggering ETL
batch jobs using AUTOSYS,monitoring the batch job runs and then run
tesningt case queries to validate positive and negative test scenarios.
