[Savannah-register-public] [task #10497] Submission of SimRoof

2010-10-02 Thread Alex Fernandez

Follow-up Comment #5, task #10497 (project administration):

Hi Aubrey,

Great, please submit a tarball when you are ready.

Having an open task requires periodic monitoring, so it really does consume
someone's time; as you will know we are volunteers and the time we can devote
to admin tasks is very limited. If it is going to take you more than a few
weeks to be ready for review we can close the task and you can resubmit
whenever you are ready. But given that you have some code to review it would
be best at this point to go ahead with whatever you have.

Alex.

2010-10-02 Thread Alex Fernandez

Follow-up Comment #8, task #10119 (project administration):

Sorry to hear that, but I hope that your project thrives over there. Keep in
mind that the hosting requirements, however obnoxious may seem, are there to
protect you, your users and developers from any copyright issues down the
way.

If you ever want to resubmit here feel free to do so.

Alex.

Hi Fernando,

I am reviewing your submission on behalf of Savannah. Everything seems to be
in order, so I am approving it. Just consider adding copyright information
(and the license header) to the README and similar text files, once they have
enough substance to be copyrightable (right now they are below 10 lines which
is the rule-of-thumb limit size).

Welcome, and have fun!

I've approved your project--welcome on board! :-)

Follow-up Comment #1:

Hi Mario,

I am reviewing your submission on behalf of Savannah. Everything is fine with
the project, and so I am approving it. I have however a few suggestions:
* The submission states that the license is GPLv2+, however the COPYING file
says GPLv3+. I changed the project description to say GPLv3+, I hope that is
fine with you.
* The submitted tarball is called brahms.tar.gz; we recommend including the
version number so it is called something like brahms-0.0.1.tar.gz.
* The contents of the tarball should be a top level directory called like the
tarball: brahms-0.0.1/, instead of having everything at the top level.
* Source code is usually stored in a directory called src/, not code/.

They are of course just suggestions; feel free to ignore them if they don't
suit your project. Welcome, and have fun!

[Savannah-register-public] [task #10626] Submission of ESPResSo

2010-10-02 Thread Alex Fernandez

Update of task #10626 (project administration):

  Status:None = In Progress
 Assigned to:None = alexfernandez

___

Follow-up Comment #1:

Hi Olaf,

I am reviewing your submission on behalf of Savannah. There are a few issues
with the project:

* ESPResSo is supposed to be licensed under the GPLv2, but the file
LICENSE.TXT says:
_4. ESPResSo is intended only to be used for academic research ensuring
proper knowledge about simulation techniques. It is not suited for commercial
or industrial purposes._
However, the GPL http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html states in section
10:
_You may not impose any further restrictions on the exercise of the rights
granted or affirmed under this License._
Both are not incompatible as long as your point 4 is intended as a
recommendation only, not as a restriction on use. It would be good to clear
this point or even make it explicit.

* A related issue: the GPL should be applied following these guidelines
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html, not with your own license
header. Your additional restrictions can live in the file LICENSE.TXT, but the
GPL header should be on every file.
* Text files (such as the README or doc/dg/pages/build.doc) should also have
the license header somewhere in their body (we recommend at the bottom).
* There is a ton of binary data that goes with the project, such as in the
testsuite/ directory. Also, there are many binary files such as images in
doc/dg/figs/. They should be listed in the README with author and license
information.
* Also a recommendation: source code should probably be in a folder called
src/ so that it does not obscure the contents of the top level directory (and
this would make our job as reviewers easier!). This is not of course
mandatory.

Can you provide an updated tarball which solves these issues? Thanks!

Hi,

I am waiting for an answer from you.

If within two weeks I still do not get a reply, I will remove
your project. You will still be able to register it again once
you have the time to deal with the registration issues.

Are you still willing to host your project at Savannah? If not,
please tell us--we don't bite, and it will make us gain time.

[Savannah-register-public] [task #9914] Submission of GNU Quality Assurance

2010-10-02 Thread Simon Josefsson

Follow-up Comment #6, task #9914 (project administration):

Hi! Sorry for slow response. I am still waiting for the gnu.org DNS entries
to be added so I can finish my rewrite of the code. I still want the project
on savannah.

Alternatively, just create the project empty, and I'll be sure to never
upload any files without clear license?

If it creates problems to have the project request in the queue, please just
remove it and I'll re-apply later when things are ready.

/Simon

Hi Simon,

No problem on my part. Is it supposed to be a GNU project? Otherwise we
cannot use the GNU in the name. If it is, has it been approved by the FSF
yet?

Thanks, Alex.

[Savannah-register-public] [task #10523] Submission of GNU+Linux from Source Code

2010-10-02 Thread Bryan Baldwin

Follow-up Comment #5, task #10523 (project administration):

Opps, I had been replying directly from email. No one ever saw my response.

Here is my response from August 2nd:

I can understand not wanting to host entire distributions of software,
because I don't want this either. GNU+Linux from Source Code is meta
in the fact that it's actual deliverable is not a distribution, only the
tools to make one. Even more precisely, it is the tools to make
software-implemented factories that produce GNU+Linux distributions to
spec.

As such, GLFSC will never have any accompanying packages of software,
neither binary nor source. It is only a set of tools that I plan to host
as git repository for development.

The planned function of the tools is to collect configuration data from
files or user input, instantiate a build target, generate a basesystem
of GNU+Linux, and pass the configuration details on to that system. The
source code packages can be sourced from the users local storage, or
synced from public locations on the Internet. After the basesystem is
built and booted, there will be more automation that will allow the user
to generate a software repository of packages with the package
management system of their choice.

You can read more about the development and goals at my wiki:

http://katofiad.co.nz/wiki

Enjoy! (-:

[Savannah-register-public] [task #10563] Submission of Lout

2010-10-02 Thread Karl Berry

Follow-up Comment #9, task #10563 (project administration):

The mailing list already exists, nothing to be done there. If there are
problems with it, I'm sure we'll hear about them in due course :).

As for the nonfree font files, fortunately it's not a serious problem, since
there are more-or-less compatible and definitely free versions of the standard
35 PostScript fonts (like Zapf Chancery), originally from URW. Lout should
probably just import the files from there, or the Ghostscript distribution, or
some such. Or if we're just talking about AFM's, Adobe eventually freed
those.

Jeff, Ludo, wdyt?
