[RCSE] US F3B Team Selections
This week at the AMA site will be the US F3B Team Selections. I would like to thank in advance all volunteers that make this possible. If you can volunteer and haven't talked to Jack Iafret or Marc Gellart there's still time. For those that haven't seen F3B, you are missing something. The TD part you know... 10minutes (always) 1 meter /per 5 point landing without skegs. The Distance is the most fun part in my opinion. Distance is like racing and yahting. Know when to go slow and when to go fast. When its fast well its loads of fun Speed, is just that... FAST... 4 legs with ballast and fast turns. Smooth, short, and fast wins. Times for the 600 meters can range from 14-23 seconds... It all depends on the air. So if you can make it you are sure to see some cool stuff going on. I am hoping that some of you get hooked enough to want to try it sometime... We need more fliers if we are too compete on a world class level. If you can help, and watch even better. If you can't volunteer, I hope you can make it too watch... Unlike TD this IS a spectator sport since distance and speed have something to watch... Learning to FLY F3B WILL MAKE YOU A BETTER PILOT... See ya all there... And thanks again volunteers. -- Jeff Steifel RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Where can we buy F3B USA merchandise like shirts? I'll be supporting the team again this year. gv -Original Message- From: Jeff Steifel [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, August 21, 2006 12:16 PM To: rcse Subject: [RCSE] US F3B Team Selections This week at the AMA site will be the US F3B Team Selections. That information will come out after the Team Selection. They must pick a manager and get the process of raising money going. George Voss wrote: Where can we buy F3B USA merchandise like shirts? RE: [RCSE] US F3B Team Selections
Well said Jeff. I know there are already a few volunteers that are coming out to help, and I for one very much appreciate any time that folks can afford to help the cause. Thank you in advance for coming out and lending a hand. The thing in my opinion that makes F3B so attractive is the flying. There is a lot of flying (read skilled flying) going on. And to actually fly the tasks of F3B gives one the appreciation for the skills that are being demonstrated. It teaches aircraft set-up, flying strategy, and maximizing the glider's performance in all ranges of the flight envelope. The models have been designed to Float, Go fast, and go far. The resultaregliders that are very strong, straight, clean and cool looking. The models are very fun to fly too. Come out and take a look. See what it is all about, and then start flying the tasks. Hopefully, you will get hooked. We do need a lot more people flying this event. George, since the team will be decided by Sunday the 27th, I would imagine that fund raising would start up a month or so after that. Of course that all depends on who makesthe teamand who organizes the efforts. Thanks in advance for expressing interest in support of the next team. As far as I know, at this time there is no general fund or account for US Soaring teams support. Hmmm, might be an idea though... The next F3B World Championships are going to be held in Switzerland - 2007. The date is usually the first two weeks in August. Stay tuned. Hopefully the LSF will continue to provide a page on their website for F3B news and updates. The Contest Starts on Friday morning Aug. 25thand ends on Sunday afternoon Aug. 27th. The top 3 pilots will be our next F3B team. Come on out to the AMA flying site in Muncie and check out the action. Thanks for the bandwidth. Hmmm, might be an idea though... This year (for the first time I remember) one could make tax deductible donations to the F3J Worlds team via AMA HQ. No reason this couldn't be expanded/continued. Even better if the AMA would make provisions to accept donations of appreciated stock shares. Good Lift!
Re: [RCSE] US F3B Team Selections
I think that you could always do that. It's just no one ever knew. Key point is getting the money direct to the AMA and getting it designated for the team so you get your tax deduction. I don't know why the AMA couldn't accept the other forms of donations since they are a qualified non-profit. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: In a message dated 8/21/2006 3:08:21 P.M. [RCSE] US F3B Team Selections
The post about F3B at the nats is a timely one. Mike Smith and I have chatted with Joe, and he let us know that there has not been a bid to host the F3B team selections this year. Labor day is of course the traditional weekend, because it allows a 3 day contest. 3 days is required in order to fly enough rounds to have a throw-out. This is the only fair method to select a team for the world championships. This is a unique situation, I can't remember a labor day during the selection cycle that didn't have a contest. I would like to get the word out to any of the clubs across the US that may have a suitable field to host this. Or perhaps several clubs can get together to work it. Time is short if we are to have a Labor Day contest, but maybe it is still workable. We need the support of the entire soaring community, for F3B in the United States to keep up it's winning ways. -Aaron Valdes San Diego, Ca. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
