Re: Pidgin Credentials
@Logan, You've contacted a public mailing list for the 3rd party program Pidgin. This mailing list is for help using and debugging the software, but does not have access to accounts or passwords. We don't know your environment, so you'll first need to see which protocol the user is using and then contact that provider. For example, if the service is AIM, use AOL's preferred method for resetting passwords. If the service is SIPE/Communicator, contact your internal IT department (etc). Please escalate to the service provide in which you are using, as Pidgin itself is not a service provider and does not have people's passwords. -Tres - tres.finocchi...@gmail.com On Wed, Jan 29, 2014 at 10:35 AM, Logan Barnes lbar...@jonesboro.orgwrote: Hello my name is Logan Barnes and I work for the City of Jonesboro, AR Information Systems. Facebook Chat Settings
Personally i dont have facebook From ArchWiki [1] 1. Go to Accounts and select Manage Accounts. 2. On the Basic tab, enter the following info: Protocol: XMPP Username: Your FacebookID (without e-mail domain, e.g. @yahoo.com, etc) Domain: chat.facebook.com (make sure you haven't typed any extra space) Resource: Pidgin (leave this empty if you get usern...@chat.facebook.com/Pidgin Not Authorized error message) Password: Your Password Local alias: Your Name 3. Click the Advanced tab, then enter the following info: Connect port: 5222 Connect server: chat.facebook.com (make sure you haven't typed any extra space) (Uncheck the box labeled Require SSL/TLS) Notes please check archwiki [1] Newer versions of Pidgin do not have a Require SSL/TLS box. Instead, select Use encryption if available from the Connection Security dropdown in Advanced Changing your Facebook privacy settings to Turn off all apps (under Apps and Websites), will disable your ability to send messages via jabber. (see Why can't Pidgin seem to send Facebook messages) You may notice that all Facebook contacts are in a separate group every time you login with your xmpp account even though you moved them to other groups or created meta-contacts. If you want to be able to group contacts and create meta-contacts you can use the plugin available here: pidgin-xmpp-ignore-groups (after installing the plugin activate the option Ignore server-sent groups on the Advanced tab in your xmpp-account settings). It essentially ignores the group data sent by the server roaster and preserves your local changes. Technical Support
Can anyone provide support on why I cannot get the program to function properly? In the last few days, it's decided to start (Not Responding), and reinstallation has not proven to be a solution. Re: Technical Support
If you can, try to disable ALL Plugins and see what's happening. If the program is working well, activate plugins you just disabled one by one and see who is causing the problem. By the way, what OS [Operating System] are you using? Changing Pidgin Jabber/XMPP Response
Hi Pidgin support, Is there a way to change the Jabber/XMPP response: iq type='result' to='manager.openfire' id='706-7072'query xmlns='jabber:iq:version'namePidgin/nameversion2.10.7 (libpurple 2.10.7)/version/query/iq I want to change the name inner text to something like PIDGIN to prevent my companies openfire server blocking my Pidgin client. My IT is new and they have no idea why it's being blocked from the past IT co-workers. Because when I connect, I get the following message: bodyYou are using an invalid client, and therefore will be disconnected. Re: Changing Pidgin Jabber/XMPP Response
I am pretty sure openfire is very limited on it's client blocking capabilities. OpenFire works fantastic with Pidgin. Using it now with the Avaya OneXPortal currently. This is most likely a configuration option. It is also possible your server requires encryption, which is configurable. -Tres - tres.finocchi...@gmail.com On Wed, Jan 29, 2014 at 2:40 PM, Kelby Hunt hunt...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Pidgin support, Is there a way to change the Jabber/XMPP response: iq type='result' to='manager.openfire' id='706-7072'query xmlns='jabber:iq:version'namePidgin/nameversion2.10.7 (libpurple 2.10.7)/version/query/iq I want to change the name inner text to something like PIDGIN to prevent my companies openfire server blocking my Pidgin client. No, and I'm not sure why you would would lie to OpenFire when it can be configured to accept connections from Pidgin clients. Because our IT administrators can't figure out what in OpenFire is blocking other clients besides Spark, Trillian and Pandeon. New User, Discouraged.
Hello, I am new to Pidgin and XMPP. I am trying to combine my Skype, Facebook, Google Hangouts, and Steam chat using Pidgin. After 2 hours and not being able to connect to anything I'm starting to realize why this kind of thing isn't popular. Am I wasting my time trying to use Pidgin to this end? ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe? Use this link: https://pidgin.im/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/support

Steam chat and Skype are both non-open, non-standard protocols. There is a plugin for Skype that states it should integrate the chat with Pidgin, though Skype has to be running in the background, and isn't officially supported. To my knowledge there isn't a plugin for Steam like there is for Xfire, but I could be wrong. Google chat should be pretty easy, there's even a protocol option for it in the accounts menu (https://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Using%20Pidgin#HowdoIuseAIMMSNYahooGoogleTalkJabberXMPPICQoranyotherprotocol ). Facebook should work via XMPP (https://www.facebook.com/sitetour/chat.php ). -Michael ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe? It's hard to say what could be happening without a debug log. Nothing about the username format should have changed with the 2.10.8 release. One cause for this type of issue is that you've entered a leading or trailing space in the username field. -D ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe?
