Hi Phil,

Yes, displaying self-sent messages is one of the features of the Hangouts
plugin, as well as a few other differences mentioned at
https://bitbucket.org/EionRobb/purple-hangouts/wiki/Differences_with_XMPP

Cheers,

Thanks:

XMPP. I can try the Hangouts plugin…if it would echo entire conversations into
Pidgin, that would be great (I lose my replies from my phone currently).

They just show as Offline.

Hi there,

Just to check, are you using GTalk (XMPP) that's built-in to Pidgin or the
Hangouts plugin?

Also, are the buddies that are offline showing as "Not Authorized" when you
display offline buddies in the buddy list?

Cheers,

Assuming gtalk still supports XMPP, see

Also see

The Google Talk setting is just a shorthand for XMPP with setting

XMPP, does it use any protocol with a specification that is in the
public domain?

This:

One other thing to consider is that your machine is operating 13 and a
half hours in the future. Some authentication schemes could have
difficulty with that. I suspect you are using a computer configured for
use on the US East Coast (e.g. Microsoft's Seattle HQ), but set so that
the time actually displayed appears to be Indian Standard Time.

Google wanted to cancel the mechanism with which the Google XMPP server and
other XMPP servers can exchange messages. What wasn't going to be dropped was
connecting to chat on Google Hangouts using the XMPP protocol, and this is
still working fine for me with Pidgin here from

Hi,

You most likely did not provide valid login/password.

Either verify it, either change it via google website.
Note that If you are using 2- steps authentication you may have to create a
specific password for pdigin. Search for tutorials on google if you need
more instructions on that.

A few questions:

1. What is your system: operating system, distribution, versions of them,
processor, computer model, etc.

2. What is your Pidgin version? How did you install it?

3. What are the symptoms of you not being able to connect? Perhaps you can
*privately* (not in public) share the logs: perhaps see the “Help → Debug
Window” option.

As I remember it, their TCs say that they will use various heuristics

they will use. The heuristics may well attempt to avoid false positives

I can definitely confirm that this happens to me whenever I travel.

I live in Canada, when BeeJive moves their IM proxies or my mail server
moves to a new IP, Google throws me warnings about my account possibly
being compromised due to being accessed from different geographic
regions. Once I confirm that it's me, their algorthims learn.

A similar thing happens when I travel, I was fine accessing my account
from the UK and a few different cities in Germany, but when I was
accessing my machine at home over a VPN and I tried to access my
Calendar, Google again locked me out until I confirmed that all of the
connections were legitimate -- In other words, travel was fine, but both
traveling and accessing from home was suspicious.

It's been a couple trips since I've had more than a request to
re-authenticate, so I suspect their algorthims have figured out that I
travel and where I travel and that my normal access continues.

Video not working using Pidgin from PPA (GTalk)

2013-03-26 Thread Gabriel Rossetti
Hi,

I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on a new computer and wanted to use Pidgin as
my messenger app. I used the official Pidgin PPA and installed version
2.10.6. I tried to get the video/audio support working with GTalk but it
doesn't work, I see no errors, there just isn't the option. I had this
working in the past using 2.6.x if I remember correctly. I read on the
internet that I need H264 GStreamer codec, thus I should install
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly and gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg, which I have already,
no change. I have tried changing the SSL config as some suggest, no change.

I can get it to work using Empathy however, so I assume I have all the
codecs installed and working.

Has anyone gotten this to work recently?

Thanks,
Gabriel

no audio/video to gtalk on android only

2013-01-21 Thread Brian J. Murrell
I have pidgin 2.10.3 and have a number of XMPP/Jabber accounts including
some Google Talk accounts. My wife also has a number of XMPP/Jabber
accounts including a Google Talk account.

My wife and I both have Android tablets also.

We seem to be able to use the Google accounts on those tablets to use
Google Talk and get both audio and video to each other. We can both use
our XMPP/Jabber accounts on pidgin on our respective computers to get
audio/video. We cannot however seem to get audio/video between the
above same GTalk and Jabber accounts. The option for neither audio nor
video even shows up in the context menu for the Google accounts on Pidgin.

What makes this even more interesting is that if we sign into the
gmail.com web interface and use Google Talk from there using those same
accounts as we use on Android, Pidgin does see audio/video available.

So given that I looked to see what was different about the presence
messages on GTalk with gmail.com and GTalk with Android and the only
difference was in the caps:c attribute where obviously the node= value
was different but the gmail.com GTalk client sent the following in the
ext= value:

ext='pmuc-v1 sms-v1 camera-v1 video-v1 voice-v1'

and the Android GTalk client sent:

ext='pmuc-v1 voice-v1 video-v1 camera-v1'

for the same key.

But it would seem strange that sms-v1 value in that key would be
causing the problem here since it shouldn't really have anything to do
with audio/video, yes?

Any ideas why Gtalk on gmail.com is flagging to Pidgin that it can do
audio/video but Gtalk on Android is not?

Cheers,
b.

Gtalk Instance Status

2012-04-21 Thread James Bond
I'm running into a particular issue with my Gtalk account. You see, I signed up
at Simonics.com to get a VoiP Gateway, which allows me to receive Google Voice
calls on my cell (Nokia N9) via SIP. This works great, however, it appears that
because of this I am permanently signed into Gtalk at all times. This instance
though, shows up with a Do Not Disturb status at all times, with a Resource
name starting with GVGW. This works fine, for example if I'm asleep, that my
contacts know that contacting me at that point is useless.

However, a friend just brought to my attention that I NEVER appear available
when I sign through Pidgin. I had the default resource of Home, and despite the
status showing as available in the hover tooltop, my icon and status in the
contact list remained as DND. With some resting though, I was able to make it
appear green when I signed on via the Gmail chat. This appears with a gmail.*
resource name. I figured, ok, the statuses are ordered by the instance's name,
alphabetically. Unfortunately, even after renaming my resource (starting with
A), I continue to appear DND to my contact through Pidgin (even after
restarting both of our Pidgin's).

I rather not disable my VERY useful SIP service, but do not want to appear
offline to all my contacts like this. Is there a way to fix this from my end?
Why isn't the available instance overriding the DND one?

Stop keeping remote logs via gTalk/XMPP on Google servers

2012-03-03 Thread blackbit

Hello,

Thinking on the ones like me, that are victim of the people that is not
too much sensible about it's own privacy/security.

As a second option in front of better solutions like the use of
'Pidgin-OTR' plugin/package:

Is there any way in Pidgin 2.10.0 to get profit of the nosave states
from Off The Record Chats section related to the Google Talk
implementation described here :
https://code.google.com/apis/talk/jep_extensions/otr.html#serversupport

If it's not actually supported, I think that many people would find it
interesting on future releases.

Cheers,

I have two separate configurations on my advanced tab that both seem to work:

Google Apps:
Security: Old style ssl
port: 5223
server: talk.google.com
file transfer: proxy.eu.jabber.org

Regular gmail:
Security: Require encryption
port: 5222
server: (blank)
file transfer: proxy.eu.jabber.org

Try a combination of all of these.
Perhaps the specific error message would be helpful also.

Gtalk contacts which appear online on Pidgin appear offline on Gmail chat

2011-07-20 Thread omomom123123

Hi,

It happened to me a few time that I saw a Gtalk contact online in Pidgin,
but when I went to my Gmail page (in the web browser), this contact appeared
offline.

What is the explanation for this?

10x!

Hi. Let me explain my ask.
Actually, at work we use google's app, and of course we use GMail
service, but our email it doesn't end with the thypical @gmail, it does

So i'm trying to add this account to pidgin, but i can't figured out the
right configuration.

Did somebody add succesfully this kind of service to the account?

Is it too late to get the RFC changed? This is a bad choice of error
message text on two grounds:

1) the name is not necessarily a host name (it is an MX in email terms);
2) text similar to this is used by BIND libraries to indicate not in DNS.

domain-not-served-by-us would be a better short description.

I read that as a hint to the user as to the most likely user error that
would result in the diagnostic, rather than a definitive cause. Most
error messages assume probable user error (as IBM mainframe Messages
and Codes used to say), so if it were the BIND error of the same name,
the presumption would still be that the user had put in the wrong domain
part and probably got not found for the SRV record.

Possibly the real problem here is that the message is intended to be
interpreted by the client and presented to the user in a localised and
user friendly format, and Pidgin isn't doing this. I suspect there may
be layering issues, in that the Pidgin HCI wants to deal with an
abstract IM service, which has opaque user identifiers, but when things
go wrong, the structure of the identifier matters.

list of hosts, in which case it simply reflects the failure to use gmail.com.

As the text in the error indicatesI, this is caused when a client says I
want to connect to jabber.org, except the client is connected to, e.g.,
Google's servers (which don't serve jabber.org). Or, in this case, the
client says I want to connect to the XMPP host 'talk.google.com', except
the XMPP service is on 'gmail.com'.

From the XMPP soon-to-be-published-as-standard core internet-draft

4.9.3.6. host-unknown

The value of the 'to' attribute provided in the initial stream header
does not correspond to an FQDN that is serviced by the receiving

(In the following example, the peer specifies a 'to' address of
example.org when connecting to the im.example.com server, but the
server knows nothing of that address.)

~Paul

* Amusingly, that's not at all an error message I'd want to present to an
end-user, and is making me rethink changing the jabber prpl to prefer those
messages to the built-in ones

Ok folk, thanks for the help, I've got it to work :)

I've changed as per Paul's - and the FAQ - suggest to do here...
The only thing I've done differently is that I got the Accounts list up,
unticked the Gtalk in the list and ticked it again... at that I got a
request to allow the out of date certificate - which I did and it instantly
connected...

Many thanks for your comments and suggestions and patience ! :)

No, GTalk is XMPP. The fact it changes (as Nick noticed) is expected, as

I can't connect to GTalk (Linux) - Solved, I think

2010-11-25 Thread Titanio Verde
Greetings.

When I try to connect to Google Talk through Pidgin 2.7.3 (most recent in
APT repository), it doesn't show anything during 5 minutes. Then a generic
error message: *can't connect to usern...@gmail.com/*

I asked in your IRC channel, and the great user Moebelschatz thought about
adding *talk.google.com* as the connect server. It worked!

I suggest to include this in the official FAQ.
If you need more information, I pasted the corresponding debug information:

Yet another gtalk not authorized

2010-09-23 Thread B Wooster
Have tied all of the help pages out there, with different
ports/servers from each page, but a non-gmail address always fails on
Vista with Not Authorized.

Google Talk client on Vista works.
Pidgin 2.6.6 on Linux works.
Pidgin 2.7.3 on Vista fails.

Only difference I can see in the debug log is this:
(10:54:48) sasl: Mechs found: PLAIN X-GOOGLE-TOKEN
(10:54:48) jabber: Sending (ssl) (some...@example.com/): auth
xmlns='urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-sasl' mechanism='PLAIN'password
removed/auth
(10:54:49) jabber: Recv (ssl)(77): failure
xmlns=urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-saslnot-authorized//failure

The send is missing xmlns:ga - could that be a problem?

On the working Pidgin (older 2.6.6):
(10:58:40) jabber: Sending (ssl) (some...@example.com/): auth
xmlns='urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-sasl' mechanism='PLAIN'
xmlns:ga='http://www.google.com/talk/protocol/auth'

(10:58:40) jabber: Recv (ssl)(51): success

Re: Yet another gtalk not authorized

2010-09-23 Thread B Wooster
Well, this looks a bug - is there a workaround, the older Pidgin worked fine.

According to
http://code.google.com/apis/talk/jep_extensions/jid_domain_change.html
when connecting to talk.google.com must do this:
set client-uses-full-bind-result attribute to true.

But clearly it is not doing that as shown in the log below:

Cannot connect to gtalk

2010-05-17 Thread Regev Schweiger
Hello,

Sorry for bothering you, I couldn't seem to find the answer online.
I'm trying to connect to gtalk from my pidgin client, but to no avail. I
have some suspicion that it has something to do with my router, since when I
connect to my neighbors' wifi things seem to work OK. It may also have
something to do with Windows Update or an update to my antivirus software,
since all things happened more or less the same time, but I cannot be sure.

The problem is that I get an Server closed the connection error. I've used
the debug log and it is attached.

Thanks,

Regev

GTalk via port 443

2010-01-26 Thread Дмитрий Комаровский
Good morning everyone!

I use Google Talk behind a firewall that only allows SSL connections
for port 443. When I try to conect to my account from Pidgin, I get
the error message Unable to find alternative XMPP connection methods
after failing to connect directly. Also, I noticed that Pidgin does
not determine my public IP, but setting it manually does not help with
the problem. Setting the talk.google.com server and port 443 manually
doesn't help, checking the Use old SSL port checkbox doesn't help
either.
Other messengers, such as psi or exodus work perfectly and only
require the port (443) and server (talk.google.com) to be set.

The question is: How can I make Pidgin work with Google Talk from
behind a firewall that only allows port 443 SSL connections?

Pidgin version is the latest 2.6.5 on Windows XP SP3, firewall is
Kerio WinRoute.

Regards,

Dmitry

This setting in the preferences will not help connecting to Google Talk. In
order for it to work, though, you need to set a STUN server (stun.ekiga.net is
a good one)

Setting the talk.google.com server and port 443 manually
doesn't help, checking the Use old SSL port checkbox doesn't help
 either.

It *definitely* won't work if Use old SSL port is not checked, so leave it
checked.

No it's not working too..

I am not sure but this can be the problem. I am not able to access the
talk.google.com account. But yeah I am able to access the gmail through
https protocol.

So is there any XMPP server other then talk.google.com that will work ??

Not able to connect to gtalk.

2009-07-29 Thread gaurangnshah

Hi guys,

I just installed the pidgin client. And trying to configure the gtalk
account in it. But it show SSL connection failed error.

My setting is as follows:

Protocol: XMPP
Username: gaurangnshah
Domain: gmail.com

in advance tab

Require SSL/TSL: Checked
Force old ssl: Checked
Allow plain text authentication over unencrypted stream: Uncheck
Connection port: 5223
Connection Server: talk.google.com

I also tried with 5222 and 443 port. But getting same error.

The another thing is that. I can access gmail only through Https mode. With
http mode I am not able to access my gmail account. It us blocked here.
