Thanks: XMPP. I can try the Hangouts plugin…if it would echo entire conversations into Pidgin, that would be great (I lose my replies from my phone currently). They just show as Offline. Video not working using Pidgin from PPA (GTalk)
Hi, I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on a new computer and wanted to use Pidgin as my messenger app. I used the official Pidgin PPA and installed version 2.10.6. I tried to get the video/audio support working with GTalk but it doesn't work, I see no errors, there just isn't the option. I had this working in the past using 2.6.x if I remember correctly. I read on the internet that I need H264 GStreamer codec, thus I should install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly and gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg, which I have already, no change. I have tried changing the SSL config as some suggest, no change. I can get it to work using Empathy however, so I assume I have all the codecs installed and working. Has anyone gotten this to work recently? Thanks, Gabriel ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe? Use this link: http://pidgin.im/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/support
no audio/video to gtalk on android only
I have pidgin 2.10.3 and have a number of XMPP/Jabber accounts including some Google Talk accounts. My wife also has a number of XMPP/Jabber accounts including a Google Talk account. My wife and I both have Android tablets also. We seem to be able to use the Google accounts on those tablets to use Google Talk and get both audio and video to each other. We can both use our XMPP/Jabber accounts on pidgin on our respective computers to get audio/video. We cannot however seem to get audio/video between the above same GTalk and Jabber accounts. The option for neither audio nor video even shows up in the context menu for the Google accounts on Pidgin. What makes this even more interesting is that if we sign into the gmail.com web interface and use Google Talk from there using those same accounts as we use on Android, Pidgin does see audio/video available. So given that I looked to see what was different about the presence messages on GTalk with gmail.com and GTalk with Android and the only difference was in the caps:c attribute where obviously the node= value was different but the gmail.com GTalk client sent the following in the ext= value: ext='pmuc-v1 sms-v1 camera-v1 video-v1 voice-v1' and the Android GTalk client sent: ext='pmuc-v1 voice-v1 video-v1 camera-v1' for the same key. But it would seem strange that sms-v1 value in that key would be causing the problem here since it shouldn't really have anything to do with audio/video, yes? Any ideas why Gtalk on gmail.com is flagging to Pidgin that it can do audio/video but Gtalk on Android is not? Gtalk Instance Status
I'm running into a particular issue with my Gtalk account. You see, I signed up at Simonics.com to get a VoiP Gateway, which allows me to receive Google Voice calls on my cell (Nokia N9) via SIP. This works great, however, it appears that because of this I am permanently signed into Gtalk at all times. This instance though, shows up with a Do Not Disturb status at all times, with a Resource name starting with GVGW. This works fine, for example if I'm asleep, that my contacts know that contacting me at that point is useless. However, a friend just brought to my attention that I NEVER appear available when I sign through Pidgin. I had the default resource of Home, and despite the status showing as available in the hover tooltop, my icon and status in the contact list remained as DND. With some resting though, I was able to make it appear green when I signed on via the Gmail chat. This appears with a gmail.* resource name. I figured, ok, the statuses are ordered by the instance's name, alphabetically. Unfortunately, even after renaming my resource (starting with A), I continue to appear DND to my contact through Pidgin (even after restarting both of our Pidgin's). I rather not disable my VERY useful SIP service, but do not want to appear offline to all my contacts like this. Is there a way to fix this from my end? Why isn't the available instance overriding the DND one? ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe? Use this link: http://pidgin.im/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/support

Paul Aurich wrote: As the text in the error indicatesI, this is caused when a client says I I read that as a hint to the user as to the most likely user error that would result in the diagnostic, rather than a definitive cause. Most error messages assume probable user error (as IBM mainframe Messages and Codes used to say), so if it were the BIND error of the same name, the presumption would still be that the user had put in the wrong domain part and probably got not found for the SRV record. Possibly the real problem here is that the message is intended to be interpreted by the client and presented to the user in a localised and user friendly format, and Pidgin isn't doing this. I suspect there may be layering issues, in that the Pidgin HCI wants to deal with an abstract IM service, which has opaque user identifiers, but when things go wrong, the structure of the identifier matters. -- David Woolley Emails are not formal business letters, whatever businesses may want. Or, in this case, the client says I want to connect to the XMPP host 'talk.google.com', except the XMPP service is on 'gmail.com'. From the XMPP soon-to-be-published-as-standard core internet-draft (rfc3920bis): 4.9.3.6. host-unknown The value of the 'to' attribute provided in the initial stream header does not correspond to an FQDN that is serviced by the receiving entity. Re: Gtalk login problem
Ok folk, thanks for the help, I've got it to work :) I've changed as per Paul's - and the FAQ - suggest to do here... The only thing I've done differently is that I got the Accounts list up, unticked the Gtalk in the list and ticked it again... at that I got a request to allow the out of date certificate - which I did and it instantly connected... Well, this looks a bug - is there a workaround, the older Pidgin worked fine. According to http://code.google.com/apis/talk/jep_extensions/jid_domain_change.html when connecting to talk.google.com must do this: set client-uses-full-bind-result attribute to true. Hello! I just discovered Pidgin v2.7.3's Finch v2.7.3 today. I like it! However, I noticed it cannot do Gtalk in its account list. Am I missing something to use it? I installed both Pidgin and Finch from Debian's apt-get commands. Cannot connect to gtalk
Hello, Sorry for bothering you, I couldn't seem to find the answer online. I'm trying to connect to gtalk from my pidgin client, but to no avail. I have some suspicion that it has something to do with my router, since when I connect to my neighbors' wifi things seem to work OK. It may also have something to do with Windows Update or an update to my antivirus software, since all things happened more or less the same time, but I cannot be sure. The problem is that I get an Server closed the connection error. I've used the debug log and it is attached. GTalk via port 443
Good morning everyone! I use Google Talk behind a firewall that only allows SSL connections for port 443. When I try to conect to my account from Pidgin, I get the error message Unable to find alternative XMPP connection methods after failing to connect directly. Also, I noticed that Pidgin does not determine my public IP, but setting it manually does not help with the problem. Setting the talk.google.com server and port 443 manually doesn't help, checking the Use old SSL port checkbox doesn't help either. Other messengers, such as psi or exodus work perfectly and only require the port (443) and server (talk.google.com) to be set. The question is: How can I make Pidgin work with Google Talk from behind a firewall that only allows port 443 SSL connections? Pidgin version is the latest 2.6.5 on Windows XP SP3, firewall is Kerio WinRoute. Regards, Dmitry ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe? In order for it to work, though, you need to set a STUN server (stun.ekiga.net is a good one) Setting the talk.google.com server and port 443 manually doesn't help, checking the Use old SSL port checkbox doesn't help either. It *definitely* won't work if Use old SSL port is not checked, so leave it checked. Its a copied, working backup for the .pidgin directory so I know the config is exactly the same. Error message is Not authorized. I'm pretty sure it has todo with secure connection or ssl cause I had the issue long, long ago with gaim but I can't recall howto fix it without recompiling.
