Pidgin Help - How to capture status log of buddies on my screen

2014-10-16 Thread Shaun Machado
Hi Team,

Need your help.
I want to know how to have status ( Away, logged out / logged back in etc with
time ) of my buddies captured in Pidgin on my screen.
I used to have this option enabled in my old system, since I moved to new
laptop I'm not able to recall how to enable above said setting.
I'm currently using Version 2.10.9 . Do I have to move to older version to have
this enabled ?

@Jennifer,

XMPP is normal in this case.

Your may have something blocking your connection.

Can you try this:

   1. Accounts, Manage Accounts
   2. Modify
   3. Advanced
   4. Change Connect Port to 80
   5. Save
   6. Uncheck it and recheck the checkbox

This has helped me in the past when having problems connecting to Google

You will need to choose an instant message service that permits business
use. This may involve, say, installing an XMPP server on you system.
The question suggests you may not really understand the nature of Pidgin.

There is one protocol, Bonjour, that is really peer to peer. I'm not
sure if it requires a single broadcast area. I suspect most people who
use Bonjour are already familiar with it from their use of it with Apple
software.

please let me know the entire steps

Generally, with free software, you need to pay for consultancy if you
want that level of detail and it is not already in the available
documentation (which may or may not be the case). In the case of
community supported software, like Pidgin, the organisation that created
the software is simply not structured to be able to do paid work,
although some of the individuals involved, may be able to offer such
services.

If all you want to do is show which protocol your conversation is using,
you can enable the protocol icon in the information area at the top of
each conversation (and in the buddy list) via Buddies Show Protocol

Pidgin's philosophy has been to blur the lines between protocols to
provide a more unified experience, which is why the icons are hidden by

Pidgin Help/Question

2012-11-01 Thread Name Here
I'm rather new to Pidgin, but I use it extensively as of late because it takes
up much less space than MSN and other clients. But I use multiple accounts, and
on each account I tend to have a different text colour. With Pidgin, this means
I have to reset my colour each time a new chat window opens, going through the
wheel and finding it again. Is there any way (or maybe a plugin?) that I can
have a colour for each account individually?

I believe it should be doable using a plugin. However, I'm not sure that such a
plugin exists. If you are a programmer, then you can write one yourself using
the API. If not, then you can pay or convince someone else to write it for you.

I should note that I am a programmer, and I would be interested to do this for

I can't provide you a solution on that, only say that in the past I would put
the word (msn) or (gmail) in the contact's alias to distinguish protocol.
It wasn't elegant, but served its purpose.

Now, IM is used less at home and more at work so its no longer needed on my

Re: pidgin help

2012-10-23 Thread Tres Finocchiaro
I would suggest locking your workstation whenever you are not at it.

Alternatively, if this is a shared workstation, I would suggest you log out
of the workstation when you are not using it. This is minimum security
controls for most organizations.

Last, if your workstation is shared and you have no choice but to share it
with Pidgin installed, uncheck the store password option in you account
preferences so that you can exit Pidgin when you are not using it.

hi,

under my experience, a fast way to find how to do something is learning
from the code of anothers plugins :).

Firewall, broken DNS implementation in ADSL router, out of date version
of Pidgin, are the most likely.  The debug log may give more clues;
obscure sensitive data before posting it to this, public, mailing list.

Emails are not formal business letters, whatever businesses may want.
RFC1855 says there should be an address here, but, in a world of spam,
that is no longer good advice, as archive address hiding may not work.

Dependency graph of pidgin. Help please!

2009-05-14 Thread c. helder
I need a general vision of the pidgin dependency graph. Something like:
GTK+ --- libpurple--- plugin.h --- pluginprefs.h ---
prefs.h

If I included all the headers files, the dependency graph would be too big.

I hope you understand me a little.

Thanks for any help!
