Well, acc. to this https://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/ThirdPartyPlugins
there's at least two plugins for QQ around. That said, the links point

There was a QQ plugin but it was removed due to incompatibility with

However, I think the update information of the newest version which still

The last that I heard, no QQ users were amongst the Pidgin developers. QQ
will have no effective support until a QQ user starts contributing code
 updates.

In particular, the QQ protocol doesn't seem to be published, so a QQ user
will need to reverse engineer the changes.

Currently there do not appear to be any QQ users able and willing to
update the QQ support in Pidgin. Your best chance is to approach open
source developers in China itself, as it is likely to require someone
who uses QQ to reverse engineer the changes in the protocol and have the
motivation to update the Pidgin code and make it public.

QQ can't log on

2011-01-13 Thread Xiang Li

Hello,
I don't know whether it is an incident today or it will keep
forever, but pidgin QQ can't log on.

The pidgin version on my PC is the latest released 2.7.9.
Could you check from your side?
As it was working well before, but suddenly can't , today.
One thing should be some help, it is said some time ago, QQ 2008
should be out of date. And I see the highest client version for QQ is 2008.
By the way, I use the same proxy configuration, now QQ Client 2010
sp3 is working well. Also, MSN on pidgin is working with same proxy , too.

Regards,
Xiang Li

To the best of my knowledge no QQ user is currently able and willing to
reverse engineer the changes that QQ have made to their protocol and
implement corresponding Pidgin changes.

Pidgin relies on volunteers who actually use the IM services, and is
often frustrated by services which don't want third party clients and
don't publish details of their protocols.

There are important words I can't translate well enough to be sure of
the question. However it is important to know that QQ have changed
their protocol but there are currently no QQ users who have volunteered
to discover how that protocol works and to update Pidgin to work with it.

ni de wenti you zhongyao de ci wo bu hui fanyi hao. Danshi ni yinggai
zhidao QQ zuijin gaibian le protocol le. Erqie mei you QQ yonghu yao
faxian zenme xin protocol works (qi zuoyong?), jiu gaibian Pidgin

I have as a translation attempt:

-
Why are none of the QQ buddies shown by Pidgin 2.7.5 in a 离line state,
even though 时 on-line(?) ones also 时离 line state.

How to solve?
-

Is it possible that 时 is a typo for 是; both are shi in pinyin? (是
is to be.)

离line is probably offline.

People have been reporting QQ broken since before 2.7.3, and there
appear to have been no fixes. Maybe QQ have been phasing their users

If there has been damage from a change in common code, you'll need to

Request to close ticket 4912 and some thoughts on the development of QQ protocol

2010-07-12 Thread Xianwen Chen
Dear pidgin developers and QQ protocol users,

This ticket [1] was opened 2 years ago. Fortunately, the issue was fixed in the
(partially) implemented QQ 2008 protocol. I believe it's time to close it.

The QQ protocol is supposedly being developed by the OpenQ team, but
apparently, they haven't shown the public their effort since Jan. 17th [2]. The
user contributed patch was ignored, which was submitted to their Google group
list [3]. A separated ticket tracker is there, with 5 tickets, none of which
has been resolved [4].

If a visit to this link is paid [5], you would see that there are so many
tickets opened in the official channel but with little or no attention.

One may conclude the failure of the developers, or/and the mode of assigning
the development to a loose managed team. I would not recommend any discussion
on this, but rather, I'd like to call the community to have a look into this
issue, and if possible, start working by taking care of the unclosed tickets
and the completion of 2008 protocol.

Best regards,

Xianwen

You will need to obtain a detailed protocol specification, with no
non-disclosure restrictions, from the people who operate the QQ service,
or you will need to find technically minded users of the service who are
able to reverse engineer the changes.

What is the business model of QQ's operators? Some business models are
incompatible with open source clients, which would guarantee that they
wouldn't cooperate.

In practice, you will probably then need to find open source programmers
in China to update the relevant parts of Pidgin.

The US and European developers are unlikely to have a great interest in
subscribing to QQ to reverse engineer it, and, in the unlikely event
that documentation is provided, are unlikely to be able to read it.

All Pidgin development is done by volunteers, and anyone can volunteer,
as long as they have the necessary skills and the legal right to
copyright their own computer software (people who work as professional
computer programmers, in many countries, cannot own what they write,
even if they do it in their spare time!).

I would suggest searching for Chinese language open source developer
forums and posting there.

You can try contacting the OpenQ developers that develop the Pidgin plugin:

They speak Chinese on that list too.

That is also a big problem. If they do not publish a detailed

I note that there have been some suggestions that the official client is

QQ protocol related problem. Need to update the protocol

2009-06-17 Thread Mxxia
Hi
Since today, the latest version of Pidgin failed to connect QQ. Because
QQ.com now block the old protocol connection and force user to upgrade to
the latest version of QQ in order to fix security problem.
My question is, will pidgin support the latest protocol? when precisely?

Mxxia.

Pidgin - QQ Protocal Issue Again

2009-06-17 Thread Mark Wen
Dear Sir or Madam,

How do you do?

I am writing this email to report a QQ protocal issue in Pidgin 2.5.6 I am
using: it was working fine a few day ago. But now, when trying to login any
QQ account, it always fails, and the message says Your QQ version is
outdated. Please download the lastest QQ client and try again.

I know it's not a Pidgin problem. The company Tencent (which is behind QQ)
is too aggressive. Actually it wants users to download their client software
to use QQ.

What I wonder is, is there any way to work around this issue in the next
version of Pidgin?

Thanks so much.

An avid Pidgin user,
Mark Wen

Which version of Pidgin are you using? There has been a QQ version
update in a fairly recent Pidgin release, but if you are not using a
recent Pidgin then you will not have this.

RE: getting errors from qq

I've never used QQ...but rob-to86 and rekkanoryo had this to say the other
day.

robmc: Hi, I keep getting message from QQ server, saying this version of QQ
is going to stop using. Please download newest QQ2009 from hi.qq.com . are
we going to have a new version release of pidgin to cover this? Thanks.
rob-to86: robmc: if I remember correctly you can make pidgin identify as a
newer client
rekkanoryo: yes, edit the QQ account and click the Advanced tab
rekkanoryo: as I recall, the default option there is currently the most
stable
robmc: oh, good, i will follow
rekkanoryo: but if it's going away, obviously a newer version identifier
will be ncessary
robmc: I found it. current selection is QQ2005, can change to QQ2008, should
be better.

This was using pidgin 2.5.5.
I'm not sure if anyone has submitted a ticket to default the version
identifier to QQ2008 in the next release.

QQ messages are displayed as (NULL)

2009-01-29 Thread Borsuc
Hello,

First of all, I have searched a lot for this bug and it seems a LOT of other
people are experiencing it as well. The weird thing is that they were all
marked as closed or fixed since version 2.5.0 (the tickets). And people
have been complaining since that version that it doesn't work anymore.

All the messages in QQ that are sent to me, and even the nicknames and other
profile information, are displayed as (NULL).

However the issue seems to be related to the GTK libraries -- specifically, ANY
version after 2.12.1-rev-b is unstable with QQ and makes the messages display
as (NULL).

Why I am shocked is that if you downgrade to version 2.12.1-rev-b it works
fine. (latest pidgin version 2.5.4 works with a downgraded GTK version! but it
has some crashes or GUI problems...) Clearly, this is a problem that is not
noticed. How come? GTK has been updated this year (2009) and it still has that
'bug'. I'm disappointed totally.

Why do mods keep closing these tickets? It is not fixed, not even in the latest
GTK version (in 2009!) to my disappointment.

Please make a patch or something to make it work, or at least take this into
account :(
Thanks.

It is important to note that this is a Windows-specific issue.

GTK+ 2.12.12 and later (which have been distributed with Pidgin since
2.5.2) contain the fix for this.

Question #36916 on pidgin in ubuntu changed:

Status: Open = Answered

Saša Teković proposed the following answer:
AFAIK, QQ protocol was always buggy in Pidgin. There were some patches
that fixed the problem that you described above, but it seems that QQ
protocol now has new login system that is causing trouble for Pidgin.

Assuming everything I just wrote is true, you can only keep your fingers
crossed and wait for new version of Pidgin.

Problems in QQ login in 64bit Ubuntu

2008-01-08 Thread Shunping Huang
Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a true-hearted user of Pidgin. Thank you very much for your
contributions.

Recently, I compiled and installed Pidgin 2.3.1 on my laptop with
Ubuntu-gusty-64bit, because I knew that some improvements had been made to
support QQ.

I tried to login my qq, but the program suggested Login failed, no reply,
however, at the same time I could login my gtalk and msn without any
trouble. But the most strange thing is, when I installed the i386 version of
pidgin 2.3.1 with lots of 32bit libraries implemented, I can easily login my
QQ, but meanwhile, gtalk and msn failed. So I am wonder if there is any
deadly difference between 32bit Pidgin 2.3.1 and 64bit one in QQ supporting.

I hope you can help me with my problem. Looking forwards to your reply.

Yours, sincerly
Mark Huang
