Re: your program doesn't work with qq.

i don't really know much about QQ, but it is very popular in China. it
is probably the top chat program, the next one is msn. everyone online
has QQ

but it only has a chinese version, i think. so i don't know how you
people were able to get QQ in your program.

probably no one tried to use it or no one bothered to email you guys,
that is why you don't know that qq doesn't work with your program any
more.

i suppose that you can email them directly to see if you will get any response.

i got the following chinese from qq. it basically tells me that my
version has stopped working, i should go to that site, and download
 the latest version.

Do you know where one can obtain a specification for their new protocol?
Open source implementation can only be updated if an interested
developer knows a change is happening and knows the details of the
change. I don't know about QQ, but some IM services don't publish their
protocol and some (e.g. MSN) officially discourage the use of clients
 that they don't provide.

A quick web search suggests that the protocol specification has never
been published and had to be reverse engineered. If that's the case, and
the change is not obvious, it may take some time to re-instate support.

I note that there have been some suggestions that the official client is
adware. If Pidgin doesn't display the adverts, they may have added code
to detect Pidgin, to protect their advertising revenue.

Emails are not formal business letters, whatever businesses may want.
RFC1855 says there should be an address here, but, in a world of spam,
that is no longer good advice, as archive address hiding may not work.

You haven't told us which version of Pidgin you are using, which is
rather important if you are talking about version compatibility problems.

Also, it is sometimes important to include the exact text of error messages.
