Re: AOL leaving does it effect my Pidgin
Google Talk is kind of buggy. I've had many issues trying to remove old contacts. There's a plugin for Hangouts, which also has some bugs, but it's way better. I don't know if support has been given for the raised issues. Re: AOL leaving does it effect my Pidgin
Hi Laurel, Unfortunately all the AIM servers are going away, so you'll need to switch to a different service. If you want to use something you control, it'd be worth considering hosting something like XMPP, Mattermost or matrix.org for your team chat (all 3 are available to use in Pidgin, 2 with plugins). Have a look at https://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/ThirdPartyPlugins#AdditionalProtocols to see if there's any other options outside of the built-in options in Pidgin that might be useful to you too. AOL leaving does it effect my Pidgin
Quick question . our company has used AOL IM for 15 yrs to keep our contractors who work out of the homes connected. Last year we migrated over to Pidgin. Our initial logins and accounts were created with AOL. Since all their data is going away, do we need to set up new accounts to use with Pidgin. Been very happy with its functionality in our small business. Thank you! ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe? Use this link: https://pidgin.im/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/support

This error means that Pidgin thinks the SSL certificate used by https://api.screename.aol.com/auth/clientLogin is invalid. It's not clear what aspect of it is invalid... you could turn on Help--Debug Window and try signing in again. It might print a more detailed error message. I'm guessing one of the servers that hosts api.screenname.aol.com really does have an invalid SSL certificate. This is not a bug in Pidgin--it's a bug in AOL's servers. You can try working around this by modifying your account settings and unchecking Use clientLogin in the Advanced tab. As a side note, I think AOL's servers have been a little more unreliable than usual over the past few months. As in maybe 1% of logins fail rather than .2% (these numbers are guesses and surely inaccurate). ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe? Dear Pidgin Support, I am writing to you to ask some rather simple-answer question. I am going to be developing an Agent that'll send some IM messages to Yahoo!, AOL and MSN (they will subscribe to the service first). I am currently working on the project requirements and its spec. I would need to specify the maximum message throughput and was wondering whether you could provide me with that info. I tried finding it on your and libpurple website, I was not successful in my search however. Please would you be that kind and let me know what the maximum message limit rate (messages/second) is for the following: 1. Yahoo!, 2. AOL, 3. MSN. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you. Best Regards, Anna Hall This message is confidential and may be privileged. It is intended solely for the named addressee. Re: Beehive Pidgin not allowing connection to AOL IM
Are you at a Sun (now Oracle) Campus, using the Sun WiFi, or using a wired ethernet connection? If you're at a former Sun (now Oracle) Campus, using the WiFi, and unable to connect to the Beehive at all, there's an issue at a number of Sun Campuses where traffic to the Beehive is essentially being blocked by the network. If this is the case, you'll need to open a trouble ticket with Sun IT. If not, what error message are you receiving? On 4/5/2010 8:04 AM, Lynn A. Take a look at http://pidgin.im. You didn't give us any error messages or useful information, but I do believe it will help. "Having trouble with AIM/ICQ? AOL BS
Guys: I was an original Beta tester for AppleLink in 1988 and have hated AOL ever since, I've tried to avoid it as much as possible. Unfortunately, I have some IM traffic I need to conduct so I'm trying to connect Pidgin to a new AOL account I'm setting up. I keep getting this response: Received unexpected response from http://api.oscar.aol.com/aim/startOSCARSession/useTLS=1 is not allowed for unsecure requests Username and password are correctly entered. Any suggestions? I hate AOL. I could not change my email address into another name so I cancelled it totally. Can you please therefore look into this matter and inform me which steps I need to make in order to have this fixed and to be able to create a new AOL. Many thanks in advance, Best regards Hey Jenny. It sounds like you're trying to create a new AIM screen name? It's actually not possible to do this using Pidgin. You'll have to fill out the form at https://new.aol.com/productsweb/. Once that's done you can Add an Account to Pidgin and type in the screen name and password that you just created. --Mark ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe? issue with replying to a AOL Bot
I have a AOL Bot, built in java, on top of net.kano.joscar's OSCAR implementation. It sends messages and it listens for IM messages sent by others. There are no issues with it sending messages to users on pidgin. Receiving messages is another story. When somebody types a reply to a bot-initiated conversation, or when somebody initiates a conversation to the bot AOL account, the result is the same: The message is not received by the bot, and no error is seen by the sender. If I open the pidgin debug window while I initiate such a conversation, I see this: (15:33:06) oscar: Sending IM, charset=0x, charsubset=0x, length=16 (15:33:06) oscar: Sent message to ballistaalerts1. And nothing else; I also see nothing incoming on my bot. Sending the message from the same account (to the same bot acccont) from AOL directly, not via pidgin, works fine - the bot and the human user can communicate without any issue. So it is definitely something in sending from pidgin that is causing me grief. I'm guessing my bot is missing something in its configuration that is causing imcoming pidgin messages to be rejected by the server, but I can't figure out what. Can anyone offer me some advice about where to look? _ DISCLAIMER: Any information contained in this communication is intended for the use of the named individual or entity. Wierdnesses with AOL network
Hi-- I've been experiencing odd connection problems with cohorts on an AOL account: buddy lists are slow to show up, buddies I know are online not showing up in my buddy list, messages not getting through or, as happened earlier today, I sent a message which was received, but the recipient told me that I appeared offline--even though we were trading messages. This kind of intermittent connectivity happened before once, also on a Friday, which is day of heavy use in our small office. I figured it was an intermittent AOL problem; now I'm not so sure. Does anyone else know if AOL's IM network is having problems these days or if these kinds of issues can be ascribed to another kind of problem? I've running Pidgin 2.3.1.
