AOL have permanently closed their instant messaging service.  Pidgin 
will work with some other services although you obviously need to ensure 
that your correspondents also move to the same service.

This sounds like something that you should seek support from your IT
department about; Pidgin wouldn't be explicitly setting those values.

Do I have to change the local alias for every screen name I use?

Hi,
 
Each one of the Yahoo screennames that I loaded into Pidgin reflects the name 
of a different state(UConnbabe for the Connecticut chatroom, UCLAcoed for the 
California chatroom, etc).
 
When I click 'accounts' from the 'buddy list' pop up window, select my Yahoo 
ID, select 'activate ID' then select a particular Yahoo screenname under the 
'Activate which ID?' drop down menu, is this how I change my screenname for 
each particular state location chatroom?

Screen Name says its disabled for no apparent reason

Hello,

when trying to log into pidgin I get a notification that says

 'gotmuie disabled'   (gotmuie being my screen name).
Received unexpected response from
http://api.oscar.aol.com/aim/startOSCARSession

so when I go to the Accounts  enable accounts tab and try to check the
little box next to my screen name, it is pretty much instantly unchecked and
I am unable to log in
I tried using a different screen name but this didn't work either


please let me know if there is anything I can do to fix this problem as I
strongly prefer pidgin to other forms of aim.

Go to Accounts, Manage Accounts, select account, Advanced, uncheck Use 
clientLogin.

screen name (shown under the "Nickname" list in chat rooms) was entered using 
all capital letters. I'd like to change that to lower case letters, since 
everyone in my assigned chat room is using lower case letters. When I open 
the Account window  choose the Beehive account  and click on either Edit 
Account or Set User Info pages, my screen name is grayed out. How

You must be offline in order to edit the screen name in the Edit Account window.

I am trying to access ICQ. I continually get an error 'Invalid screen 
name'. How do I find what my screen name is? I login at work on a 
MicroSoft platform but at home I use openSuse.

When you say you use a MicroSoft platform at work, do you mean ICQ? Are 
you using pidgin or the ICQ client? Certainly you can look in the work 
client at the setup and find your ICQ ID # there.

Or, go to www.icq.com, there's gotta be a lookup utility to look up your 
ICQ ID.

Not really.  :(  It is available in the 'My Account' screen but
ironically, You need to know it in order to Login to that screen.  :-\

Yep, there is. Go to Find People (People Search, Dating). I put in my 
first and last name, and searched. There's my ICQ link, Click on it, and 
you get http://www.icq.com/### where ## is your UIN or whatever 
ICQ calls it.
