Re: Topband: RFI tripping GFI breaker on 160m
I haven't seen anyone mention ferrite chokes. 1 turn through 73 material binocular cores or beads should fix that, from 160m through HF. Place them as close as possible to the GFCI. 73 Mike W0BTU _ Searchable Archives: http://www.contesting.com/_topband - Topband Reflector

Are the offending GFCI circuit breakers Eaton brand? They are known to trip from HF transmissions and it is reported that Eaton will supply "HAM" circuit breakers at no cost. I can post Eaton contact info. Some people have simply replaced the offending GFCI with standard circuit breakers. 73, Dave KH6AQ On Tue, Jan 3, 2023 at 4:56 PM wrote: > GFI breakers can be finicky. Re: Topband: RFI tripping GFI breaker on 160m
GFI breakers can be finicky. If a GFI is really needed try a different brand breaker. John KK9A AB2E wrote: I trip a GFI breaker sometimes on 160m, usually in a contest 1500W. Re: Topband: RFI tripping GFI breaker on 160m
Hi Darrell, Had similar problem when installing a station in Rehoboth Beach, DE, a few years ago. Client had an addition built for the ham shack and breaker box used the arc-fault breakers now required. We tried all kinds of toroid filtering in the shack but couldn't eliminate the problem. We did some research and a QST article mentioned the manufacturer had special arc-fault breakers that were more RFI proof. Client had his electrician come in but rather than replace with those he reverted to older non-arc-fault breakers and that cured the RFI problem. 73/Jon Jon P. I trip a GFI breaker sometimes on 160m, usually in a contest 1500W. Never had a problem when GFI outlets were the norm, but I had some electrical work done in an added room and the new code calls for a GFI breaker.
