Title:
  [Dell Latitude E5570] Internal laptop speakers after connecting other
  sound devices

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  If I use another output device than "Headphones - internal audio", the
  sound comes out of the internal laptop speakers.

  I tried with headphones in usb or in bluetooth, the output device is
  well set but the sound is only on the laptop speakers.

  So the only way to get sound is to use headphones on the jack port.

  I'm on Ubuntu 20.04.2 with pulseaudio 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.10 on a Dell
Latitude E5570.

  Thank you

Bug description:
  When I left click on my desktop (say I want to select Home and Trash

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1925973] Re: Nvidia driver 450.119 crashes lxpanel on Ubuntu 18.04

2021-05-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1926068] Re: INTEL HD DRIVERS

2021-05-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. It appears there are two problems here:

1. You are using the 'oibaf' PPA which is unsupported and is known to
cause graphics problems. Please uninstall it or at least don't report
bugs while it is installed.

2. There is a recent regression in the Intel kernel driver so please
subscribe to bug 1924624 for that.

  Bug 1318327 covers this issue in eye of gnome, and bug 1407644 in
  libwebp, but isn't this really a gdk-pixbuf issue? If it really does
  belong to libwebp, my apologies, please dup this bug to 1407644 (I'm
  confident it doesn't belong to eog since I don't use that program; I
  have other programs that use libgdk-pixbuf).

  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders | grep -i
webp
  (I assume the loader would mention webp if there was a loader for it).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1926820]

2021-05-02 Thread Alex Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment to this bug report it
seems that there may be a problem with your hardware. I'd recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New.  Thanks and good luck!

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1926254] Re: x509 Certificate verification fails when basicConstraints=CA:FALSE, pathlen:0 on self-signed leaf certs

2021-05-02 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Hi Seth,

Thanks for the review.

I read the commit you found:

commit 1e41dadfa7b9f792ed0f4714a3d3d36f070cf30e
Author: Dr. David von Oheimb
Date:   Sat Jun 27 16:16:12 2020 +0200
Subject: Extend X509 cert checks and error reporting in v3_{purp,crld}.c and
x509_{set,vfy}.c
Link:
https://github.com/openssl/openssl/commit/1e41dadfa7b9f792ed0f4714a3d3d36f070cf30e

Firstly, yes, you are right, this commit does refactor the code I am
suggesting we SRU to focal and groovy, but upon further inspection, this
commit was not backported to the 1.1.1 stable series, as it is missing
from the OpenSSL_1_1_1-stable branch. As you mentioned, it is a fairly
invasive change and modifies a lot of different x509 components, it
isn't suitable to be backported to 1.1.1 stable anyway, and much less be
acceptable for SRU to focal or groovy.

I think we should stick to the small targeted commits I suggested for
this SRU, since they are a part of 1.1.1 stable, and are already in
hirsute onward.

To test that the logic from the suggested commits to SRU matches this
new refactor commit from version 3.0alpha, I went and built the master
branch of openssl, which had commit
d1a770414acd34c774248ce8efbe202fd7a44041 at HEAD.

$ env LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/home/ubuntu/openssl/" ../openssl/apps/openssl version
OpenSSL 3.0.0-alpha16-dev  (Library: OpenSSL 3.0.0-alpha16-dev )

$ env LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/home/ubuntu/openssl/" ../openssl/apps/openssl verify
-CAfile CA/rootCA_cert.pem -untrusted CA/subCA_cert.pem user1_cert.pem
user1_cert.pem: OK

The logic matches and the reproducer certificates verify OK. This
confirms we aren't backporting a short lived change, and that this
behaviour is the desired and accepted outcome.

@ddstreet Please go ahead and sponsor the SRU to -updates, thanks.

  In openssl 1.1.1f, the below commit was merged:

  commit ba4356ae4002a04e28642da60c551877eea804f7
  Author: Bernd Edlinger
  Date:   Sat Jan 4 15:54:53 2020 +0100
  Subject: Fix error handling in x509v3_cache_extensions and related functions
  Link:
https://github.com/openssl/openssl/commit/ba4356ae4002a04e28642da60c551877eea804f7

  This introduced a regression which caused certificate validation to
  fail when certificates violate RFC 5280 [1], namely, when a
  certificate has "basicConstraints=CA:FALSE,pathlen:0". This
  combination is commonly seen by self-signed leaf certificates with an
  intermediate CA before the root CA.

  Because of this, openssl 1.1.1f rejects these certificates and they
  cannot be used in the system certificate store, and ssl connections
  fail when you try to use them to connect to a ssl endpoint.

  The error you see when you try verify is:

  $ openssl verify -CAfile CA/rootCA_cert.pem -untrusted CA/subCA_cert.pem
user1_cert.pem
  error 20 at 0 depth lookup: unable to get local issuer certificate
  error user1_cert.pem: verification failed

  The exact same certificates work fine on Xenial, Bionic and Hirsute.

  [1] https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5280.html

  [Testcase]

  We will create our own root CA, intermediate CA and leaf server
  certificate.

  Create necessary directories:

  $ mkdir reproducer
  $ cd reproducer
  $ mkdir CA

  Write openssl configuration files to disk for each CA and cert:

  $ cat << EOF >> rootCA.cnf
  [ req ]
  prompt  = no
  distinguished_name  = req_distinguished_name
  x509_extensions = usr_cert

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Connect to an FTP server via Nautilus
  2a. Double-click on a .php file: chrome opens and the file is downloaded

[Touch-packages] [Bug 124440] Re: [enhancement] Ubuntu needs a way to set mouse wheel scrolling speed

2021-05-02 Thread Tom Reynolds
For gnome-control-center, this bug report was watching
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=692666 so far. While still
relevant, the Gnome Project has stopped using this bug tracker and has
since shifted to their Gitlab instance for bug tracking.

A closely related upstream bug report, which should have higher
relevance for Ubuntu (after shifting to XWayland), is
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/1016, so
I've updated the remote watch for gnome-control-center.

** Bug watch added: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues #1016

Bug description:
  This has been driving me nuts for a while now. The scroll wheel on my
  desktop mouse (it's an MS wireless optical mouse model 1008) scrolls
  rather fast. Instead of moving a few lines, it scrolls half a page or
  more with a very gentle scroll. The bluetooth mouse I use with my
  laptop does not do this so it's probably somewhat hardware specific.
  However, I'm wondering if there is a way to modify the speed or
  sensitivity. I found an answer here from about a year ago
  (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/1339) that suggests
  there isn't a way but I'm wondering if anything has changed since
  then. I've also skimmed through synaptic but didn't see anything
  promising (like gsynaptic for touchpads).

  Thanks.

  You can probably use eog to test this, or run
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders | grep -i
webp

  I have these packages installed in addition to libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0:
  libwebp-dev libwebp6 libwebpdemux2 libwebpmux3 webp. file recognizes

Title:
  Request to package webp pixbuf

Status in libwebp package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  It is not currently possible to open a WebP image in any standard
  application on Ubuntu (except Firefox). There is a now a small
  extension for gdk-pixbuf to support webp: https://github.com/aruiz
  /webp-pixbuf-loader

  Such extension has already been packaged for HEIF (heif-gdk-pixbuf),
  it'd be nice to have it for WebP too.

  Once installed, any standard Gnome program can support reading such
  image, and in particular, eog.

  An example file:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1926009] Re: Incomplete display of text

2021-05-02 Thread Mark Burns
Ok I have been able to rollback the xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu package
from 19.1.0+git2104271106.aedbf47~f~mesarc0 to 19.1.0-1, and can confirm
that the issue didn't reappear.

Title:
  Incomplete display of text

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Ubuntu release: 20.04.1

  * What is expected to happen.

  All gui text elements to display complete words.

  * What actually happens.

  Since a recent update, gui text displays incompletely.

  I'm posting this with some difficulty from the affected system, but
  have noted similar issues being experienced by others and I share
  links below:

  https://askubuntu.com/questions/1328937/ubuntu-20-04-only-shows-half-text
  https://askubuntu.com/questions/1329312/xubuntu-20-04-incomplete-words

  https://askubuntu.com/questions/1332354/ubuntu-20-04-is-showing-a-bad-text

  The issues above seem to suggest the the issue may lie with the AMD
  graphics driver, although in my case I think I am using the 'radeon'
  open source driver.

  The issue occurs regardless of me use the current or previous kernel
  version installed.

  Please let me know if there is any more information that I can
  provide, and I will do my best to get it to you.

  Many thanks,
  Mark.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1926110] Re: Apps interface flickering

2021-05-02 Thread Diego Garcia
Update: no flickering in this time period.

Downgrading to an older kernel version (5.0.0-05-generic) solved the
problem.
Aparently the kernel version 5.8.0-50-generic has some problem between Intel
Graphics and Xorg.

Filenames ending with windows CR (CRLF) contains trailing space in name.

Steps to reproduce:
copied filename on windows host (Wordpad) and pasted to Ubuntu shell (same
with `touch`)
```
  * What actually happens.
  Since a recent update, gui text displays incompletely.
  I'm posting this with some difficulty from the affected system, but
  links below:
  The issues above seem to suggest the the issue may lie with the AMD
  open source driver.
  The issue occurs regardless of me use the current or previous kernel
  Please let me know if there is any more information that I can
  provide, and I will do my best to get it to you.
  Many thanks,
