I haven't said that :) OK, no problem. I didn't take offense, hope you didn't, but just wanted to clarify. The bug *was* fixed in the 2.2.8 version with two patches. Did you apply them? We have 2.2.8 version in Ubuntu 8.04, and this bug is filed for 2.2.8. I think it was fixed later in bacula, not in 2.2.8... The bug in the main Bacula 2.2.8 Branch HEAD is fixed because the code is identical to the current 2.4.2 code. That is if 2.2.8 is fully and correctly patched with the released patches, it should have this bug and others fixed. It is possible that there were confusions with the patches in getting from the first 2.2.8 to the version that is in the SVN. In any case, what is clear to me is that we have no problems in the 2.4.x base with this bug and that the 2.4.0 was pulled from the last 2.2.8 and that no additional strippath changes were made in the 2.4.x versions. If not an easy way to fix it is to take src/dird/backup.c from either the last commit to Branch-2.2 or from the current released code (Branch-2.4) rather than trying to apply the patches. I guess you are referring to src/filed/backup.c? If yes, that file is exactly the same in my PPA version and in 2.4.2. Yes, sorry. I should have said src/filed/backup.c src/dird/backup.c has more differences, but I don't think those are relevant for this bug. Yes, you are correct. We'll wait for Sergio to test my PPA version. OK, if you have a 2.2.8 src/filed/backup.c that is the same as on 2.4.2, then the bug *should* be fixed. If not, I will be worried ... By the way, what does PPA mean and where does one find those versions? [Bug 272241] Re: Kernel panics when using 8.10 on Thinkpad T61p in docking station
I never got dmesg output, and never saw the panics in any log files. But today I finally hooked up a serial console and captured the kernel panic output. I've attached the logs from two different kernel panics. Since originally posting this message, I believe I've narrowed it down to wireless activity. If I use WiFi, the more general WiFi activity going on near me the more likely a kernel panic becomes. This week I was in a room with 100 people all trying to use WiFi, and my machine would panic in only a minute or two. If I use WiFi at home where there's little activity it stays up for a long time, and if I use wired network or my CDMA card it is absolutely stable. I saw some kcrypt stuff in the trace, so I think I should mention: my root partition is encrypted, using the Intrepid alternate installer encrypted root partition support. My home encryption is encrypted too; I'm running a ZFS-on-FUSE filesystem on there. I'd be happy to answer any questions you like, and it's pretty easy for me to generate fresh kernel panics at work, so let me know what more I can do to help kill this bug. In the meantime, I have a workaround that seems to do the trick: turn off WiFi using the laptop's hard WiFi kill switch. ** Attachment added: Kernel panic log #1 http://launchpadlibrarian.net/17995003/larry.hastings.kernel.panic.1.txt -- Kernel panics when using 8.10 on Thinkpad T61p in docking station https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/272241 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 pakraticus wrote: People use uswsusp either because 1) It's legacy on a box that was upgraded from hardy to intrepid where uswsusp was installed for whatever reason. (How I encountered this). 2) They followed feisty or gutsy vintage instructions. 3) Their hardware does not work properly with the kernel sleep and hibernate modules for pm-utils. 4) hibernate/resume takes a long time using pm-utils, because it doesn't involve compression #1 and #2 could probably withstand applying the rolled up newspaper treatment to the user. Regarding #1, actually Hardy doesn't have uswsusp installed by default. #3 indicates attempting to conceal a defect in the pm-utils package and MAYBE it's worthwhile to report the defect in pm-utils. Perhaps so, but until pm-utils uses compression for hibernation, it's not going to get fixed. Right now the crux of the pm-utils defect is that it assumes that the module for hibernate should also be the module for sleep. On debian this makes sense as uswsusp provides both hibernate and sleep. This is a side effect of the revision of the pm-utils code to be more modular. Upstream should be notified of the problem in logic prior to distributing a fix for intrepid. (I apologize for switching between sleep and suspend... I'm trying to maintain the same inconsistancy as the pm-utils modules). I say fix it, test it, and submit the patch upstream at the same time. On Ubuntu this whole issue comes about from two things, one is the assumption that s2disk comes with s2ram, the other is the actions of the one who came up with the brilliant idea of disabling s2ram. And also, I agree that if we don't have s2ram even built in the uswsusp package, then we should at least have a separate package with just s2ram in it. Assuming s2ram is the right solution. At this point in the game, intrepid is alpha. The prescribed configuration is pm-utils without uswsusp. If pm-utils fails on suspend or hibernate with uswsusp on your hardware, the ubuntu developers need to know. This point does not make the assumption that s2ram is the right solution. This is about giving the user a choice. Now that uswsusp is only in Suggests and not in Recommends, apt-get autoremove should get rid of it right? I remember uswsusp wasn't installed in my Hardy installation, so users who upgrade from Hardy to Intrepid won't have a problem if we make sure the upgrade process doesn't install pm-utils. If you installed uswsusp to resolve a hibernate problem and uswsusp did, maybe the fix is to change the logic in pm-utils instead of bringing back s2ram. If the logic on pm-utils is improved to separate the configured module for sleep from module for hibernate, the long term solution might be for pm-utils to provide suspend and hibernate blacklists, uswsusp to provide suspend and hibernate blacklists, and tuxonice to provide suspend and hibernate blacklists and for pm-is-supported to provide a --verbose or --recommends flag that indicates which module is being used for suspend, hibernate, or suspend-hybrid, whether it was hard set or determined from absence from blacklists, and if it's blacklisted the next priority package. Sounds good, but it definitely won't get implemented in time for Intrepid, and leaving pm-utils broken in Intrepid is not a good idea. We need a short term solution as well, and I don't think removing uswsusp support from pm-utils completely is a good idea. - -- Hyperair -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFI3dFj4LFcUo8CpBERAgscAKCAa6PE8MyprGdnJM4JjF7ZcQV5SwCgzMVu l3SoPx3CeqGO7JwHjRl9WCM= =V39+ -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- suspend button disappears after pm-utils upgraded to 1.1.2.4-1ubuntu2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/267141 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 275067] [NEW] Right clicking twice on opened rss feed closes rss feed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox When I open an rss feed (using Live bookmarks on the bookmarks toolbar) and right click on an item in the dropdown menu, a nice context menu pops up (open, open in new window, open in new tab, etc) over the opened rss feed. If I then right click on a different item in the rss feed dropdown menu, both the context menu and the dropdown menu close. I would prefer that right clicking on an item brings up its context menu (the current behavior), then right clicking outside of the context menu and the dropdown menu would make them both disappear (the current behavior), but right clicking on an element with the dropdown menu would open the context menu for that item (and obviously close the other context menu) (the expected behavior). Essentially, clicking outside of an active object makes that object inactive (or close, etc.). Clicking within an object that is a layer from the top would then close the current top layer object, and pass the action onto the second (now the top) layer object. Steps to reproduce: 1) Add an RSS feed to your bookmarks toolbar. 2) Left click on the live bookmark that you just created on the bookmarks toolbar (a dropdown list of items should appear). 3) Right click on one of the items (a context menu should appear). 4) Left or right click on a different item in the dropdown list (the dropdown list and context menu disappear). 4b) Left or right click outside the dropdown list and context menu (the dropdown list and context menu disappear). I would like to see step 4 changed to: Left or right click on a different item in the dropdown list (the context menu for the selected item appears). Review of the preseed: d-i passwd/user-fullnamestring Ubuntu Mobile User d-i netcfg/get_hostname string ubuntu As ubiquity is presenting the user with a dialog, users should be encouraged to use their real names, and select a hostname compatible with their local naming conventions. There is an expectation that the user can enter text, as they must enter a password in any case. d-i passwd/user-passwordpassword d-i passwd/user-password-again password In an interactive install, preseeding a blank password does not affect the user experience. d-i mirror/http/hostnamestring archive.ubuntu.com d-i mirror/http/directory string /ubuntu d-i mirror/suitestring intrepid These are the default values, and so are not required. Missing preseed lines: tasksel tasksel/first multiselect mobile-mobile d-i passwd/auto_login boolean true The first ensures that the appropriate task is selected to support Ubuntu Mobile installation, and better manage upkeep over time.
