[Bug 373619] [NEW] jaunty openssh-client tries all keys available in ~/.ssh
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openssh-client I have several keys in my ~/.ssh directory. After yesterday's upgrade to jaunty I just found that openssh-client is trying all my keys instead of the default ones (id_rsa, id_dsa identity). I just reproduced the problem like this: 1. Make sure that there's no key in ~/.ssh and no ~/.ssh/config either 2. Make a new key named ~/.ssh/foobar without a passphrase: ssh-keygen -t rsa -f ~/.ssh/foobar -N 3. Run: ssh-copy-id -i ~/.ssh/foobar remote-host (asks for a password) 4. Run: ssh remote-host (doesn't ask for a password) Step 4 should ask for a password since foobar is not any of the default key filenames and my ~/.ssh/config doesn't use it either (you can try with other key filenames and get the same, wrong behaviour). ** Affects: openssh (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- jaunty openssh-client tries all keys available in ~/.ssh https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/373619 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 372737] Re: Samba Chokes Randomly
Thank you! I suppose a search for debugging samba should have occurred to me, but that is what I was looking for. As I said, I can't even tell where to look for errors. So ... * This is a client issue. * This worked in a previous release; * Output of dpkg-query -W -f='${Package} ${Version} ${Source} ${Status}\n' | grep samba libsmbclient 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.7 samba install ok installed samba-common 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.7 samba install ok installed smbclient 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.7 samba install ok installed smbfs 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.7 samba install ok installed * The smbclient commandline utility worked when I tested it just now, but part of the problem is that various approaches (Connect to Server gui, smb:// bookmark, smbmount) work once and then stop working. At this moment, the GUI is also working. I'll check the command line utility again at a point when the GUI fails. Probably this afternoon while I desperately need access to the file server. * I don't believe that a cifs mount is used. * smbclient -L //remote_system says: Domain=[CU] OS=[Windows Server 2003 3790 Service Pack 1] Server=[Windows Server 2003 5.2] It also lists a fair amount of other data that I'm not sure I'm comfortable dumping here if it isn't needed. [Bug 87063] Re: [needs-packaging] Please package php5-mssql
Hi, I feel that this is still an issue that needs to be addressed with a package addition. The php5-sybase package is not sufficient as it is meant to handle sybase and not Microsoft SQL Server databases. When using php5-sybase to query ntext data (unicode text) Microsoft SQL Server 2000 says: Unicode data in a Unicode-only collation or ntext data cannot be sent to clients using DB-Library (such as ISQL) or ODBC version 3.7 or earlier. After reconfiguring and building the libapache2-mod-php5 package with mssql everything works fine. If this is a freetds issue, note that the freetds-dev package source debian/rules is configuring freetds to be built to tdsver 4.2. It has been my experience that Microsoft SQL Server 2000 works well with tdsver 8.0. If Sybase works with tdsver 8.0, then distributing a freetds-dev package built with tdsver=8.0 might solve this problem. I am willing to help you guys get more information on this to prove that this is an issue that needs attention. Let me know how I can help, and let's stick to the facts. Probably that's why it is strongly recommended to point your /etc/resolvconf/run to /lib/init/rw/resolvconf /lib/init/rw is very similar to /var/run , but it is available even earlier in the boot process, specially for these purposes. [Bug 366298] Re: package memtest86+ 2.01-1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: unable to make backup link of `./boot/memtest86+.bin' before installing new version: Operation not permitted
As in my previous report but when starting the boot process the usual line progress stops about at 40% then continues running text lines rather fast to read, finally stops and waiting some entry. Nothing entry helps, (only [H^ or something like these appears). When pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL keys the machine reports that some process has been killed (?), appears rcS and afterwards rc5 within a text environment (fastly scrolls up and I could not copy or record it) then the start process finishes and appears the normal desktop structure. All these happened with Ubuntu 8.10 installed at the D: partition with WUBI near a FAT 32 file system Windows 98SE on C: and afterwards upgrading the 8.10 to 9.04. -- package memtest86+ 2.01-1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: unable to make backup link of `./boot/memtest86+.bin' before installing new version: Operation not permitted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/366298 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 197762] Re: file transfers on USB disk are very slow
Hi Lucas, I noticed everything goes fine until the memory gets full, then starts the swapping and the slowdown. It's like the memory is used as buffer, when that runs out it uses the virtual memory on the HD. No problem with small sizes that fit the memory but when you select 100 GB at once ... then the HD starts writing to itself fairly rapidly. When AHCI was enabled the memory gets used to but strangely enough it does not use the virtual memory (NCQ?). As you stated the NCQ may prevents the HD from playing with itself. It may not be the main problem (that's why I didn't file a bug) but I'm fairly sure some people have IDE selected or only have IDE in their BIOS. I only thought it was worth mentioning how I solved my problem because I read very similar stories to mine here. It could be good to know if they are using a PATA or SATA drive as source. Once you filter those out you can narrow down to the real problem. -- file transfers on USB disk are very slow https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197762 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Do they need MIRs written up as they are essentially just forks of packages already in main? They don't need MIR wiki pages, but please open a bug report and subscribe ubuntu-mir, with the list below. Then we have a track record. It just seems strange to me why the packages were forked in the first place? What's wrong with using the standard packages? Duplicating code is always nasty and a maintenance nightmare, so we should think twice before we do this IMHO. Well they make patches to programs they use and the normal build procedure is to just use all of the 3rd party code that is shipped in the OOo tarball. Those were split out in Debian and this is the result. [Bug 373460] Re: OOo 3.1.0 Build-Depends: move from universe to main
Right, I understand that they sometimes make patches, but usually they should be applied directly to the original package and fed back upstream, no? How come that we could build OO.o against the system libraries so far? I have to say that splitting out OO.o specific libraries into separate packages is much worse than having internal copies of them, since that encourages other packages to use the -oo.o variants as well and thus make the mess even worse. -- OOo 3.1.0 Build-Depends: move from universe to main https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/373460 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

One time that jaunty froze, i just got the notify-osd popup that my network had disconnected, and it was at that moment that my computer froze. -- Computer hard locks randomly with ubuntu jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/355155 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 373565] [NEW] Expo plugin and Workspace Switcher hides applications/windows
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 9.04 Gnome 2.26.1 Kernel 2.6.28-11-generic metacity 2.25.144 Reproduction of bug: 1) Workspace Switcher initially has 4 Columns and 1 Row. 2) I keep nautilus file browser open on Workspace 1 3) I keep firefox open on Workspace 3 4) Now change Workspace Switcher preferences from 1 row to 2 rows. So that makes 4 Columns and 2 Rows. 5) Use Expo to navigate to Workspace 5 (6,7, or 8), i.e. any workspace on Row 2. 6) Change the Workspace Switcher preferences from 2 rows back to 1 row. That makes it 4 Columns and 1 Row. What happened: The nautilus and firefox appear to have disappeared, but they are just way up on the screen (The window edge is sometimes noticeable in the Workspace Switcher). This gives the impression to the user that the applications have been closed. Changing preferences of Workspace Switcher back to 2 rows from 1 row helps get back the open applications. What should have happened: The open applications should have seamlessly been transferred to active Workspaces, giving the user the impression that Workspace Switcher was smart enough to manage workspaces. Very trivial bug for experienced ubuntu users, but new users will feel that the system crashed. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Expo plugin and Workspace Switcher hides applications/windows https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/373565 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 373533] Re: Trouble shooting text
If you get correct printout, don't bother. If you have a printing problem, you attach this information to a bug report, as you did now. Then we will look through the information and this helps us to fix the bug. If it is cryptic for you, it is not designed for end user consumption, but for attaching to bug reports. Having purely this information without any description what went wrong it does not help much. I have looked through it and it seems you have printed a job successfully. In this case you do not have a bug. If your printer did not print anything or if it printed garbage, please report a bug and attach the troubleshooting file. See also https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems for more info about reporting printing-related bugs. [Bug 373451] Re: Links on legal page broken online - references system files
Thanks for the report. Did you see a page which linked to the broken page? All the links in documents should point at https://help.ubuntu.com/legal.html. I can't immediately think of any way to stop the broken pages from being generated, but they aren't causing any harm unless there are links pointing at them, so unless you see links to the broken pages somewhere, I'd prefer to close the bug. ** Changed in: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- Links on legal page broken online - references system files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/373451 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
