[Bug 373619] [NEW] jaunty openssh-client tries all keys available in ~/.ssh

2009-05-08 Thread Alex Muntada
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openssh-client

I have several keys in my ~/.ssh directory. After yesterday's upgrade to
jaunty I just found that openssh-client is trying all my keys instead of
the default ones (id_rsa, id_dsa identity). I just reproduced the
problem like this:

1. Make sure that there's no key in ~/.ssh and no ~/.ssh/config either
2. Make a new key named ~/.ssh/foobar without a passphrase: ssh-keygen -t rsa
-f ~/.ssh/foobar -N
3. Run: ssh-copy-id -i ~/.ssh/foobar remote-host (asks for a password)
4. Run: ssh remote-host (doesn't ask for a password)

Step 4 should ask for a password since foobar is not any of the default
key filenames and my ~/.ssh/config doesn't use it either (you can try
with other key filenames and get the same, wrong behaviour).

[Bug 326768] Re: mysqld_safe thinks mysqld has crashed when it hasn't

2009-05-08 Thread Dewey_Oxberger
Probably no point in me doing this but I spent the evening trying to get

I'm using network manager and the WaitForHDHomeRun script and I'm not
seeing any trouble.

I forgot to mention - before the patch I occasionally saw mysqld go 100%
on cpu usage. Other people are seeing that as well:

[Bug 372737] Re: Samba Chokes Randomly

2009-05-08 Thread Amanda Bee
Thank you! I suppose a search for debugging samba should have
occurred to me, but that is what I was looking for. As I said, I can't
even tell where to look for errors. So ...

* This is a client issue.

* This worked in a previous release;

* Output of
dpkg-query -W -f='${Package} ${Version} ${Source} ${Status}\n' | grep samba

libsmbclient 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.7 samba install ok installed
samba-common 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.7 samba install ok installed
smbclient 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.7 samba install ok installed
smbfs 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.7 samba install ok installed

* The smbclient commandline utility worked when I tested it just now,
but part of the problem is that various approaches (Connect to Server
gui, smb:// bookmark, smbmount) work once and then stop working. At this
moment, the GUI is also working. I'll check the command line utility
again at a point when the GUI fails. Probably this afternoon while I
desperately need access to the file server.

* I don't believe that a cifs mount is used.

* smbclient -L //remote_system says:
Domain=[CU] OS=[Windows Server 2003 3790 Service Pack 1] Server=[Windows Server
2003 5.2]
It also lists a fair amount of other data that I'm not sure I'm comfortable
dumping here if it isn't needed. For instance, a lot of workstations are shown
as Servers and the comment includes that staff person's full name.

[Bug 87063] Re: [needs-packaging] Please package php5-mssql

2009-05-08 Thread Seth.Griffin
Hi,

I feel that this is still an issue that needs to be addressed with a
package addition. The php5-sybase package is not sufficient as it is
meant to handle sybase and not Microsoft SQL Server databases.

When using php5-sybase to query ntext data (unicode text) Microsoft SQL
Server 2000 says:

Unicode data in a Unicode-only collation or ntext data cannot be sent
to clients using DB-Library (such as ISQL) or ODBC version 3.7 or
earlier.

After reconfiguring and building the libapache2-mod-php5 package with
mssql everything works fine.

If this is a freetds issue, note that the freetds-dev package source
debian/rules is configuring freetds to be built to tdsver 4.2. It has
been my experience that Microsoft SQL Server 2000 works well with tdsver
8.0.

If Sybase works with tdsver 8.0, then distributing a freetds-dev package
built with tdsver=8.0 might solve this problem.

I am willing to help you guys get more information on this to prove that
this is an issue that needs attention.

Let me know how I can help, and let's stick to the facts.

Thanks.

I have another system that has the same setup, except it was installed
with Wubi to 8.10, and then upgraded to 9.04. It is also 64 bit. I have
the same problem with this system.

I think this issue is important, because any programs installed in user
space, that uses shared libraries also installed in user space, will not
run from a gnome launcher or Alt-f2.

I prefer not to mix the binaries maintained by the package manager with
home brew apps and libs, and I prefer dynamic linking to static for my
apps.

[Bug 340071] Re: /etc/rcS.d/S07resolvconf is too early

2009-05-08 Thread Wladimir Mutel
Probably that's why it is strongly recommended to point your
/etc/resolvconf/run to /lib/init/rw/resolvconf
/lib/init/rw is very similar to /var/run , but it is available even earlier in
the boot process, specially for these purposes.
Just look into resolvconf postinstallation script and find this out for your
self.
Probably your symlink was left from a previous configuration.

And may be resolvconf postinst script should be more insistent about
checking where this symlink points and switching it to /lib/init/rw/ in
case of any violations.

[Bug 350946] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 beta desktop fails to boot from usb-stick

2009-05-08 Thread aleg
@dannyp32
I'm sorry Danny, but my comments are of no use to you. I thought you already
had a functional ubuntu installation running and were having trouble after the
upgrade.
So I'm afraid you have to wait until a new installer becomes available or
otherwise revert to 8.10 Intrepid first and do an upgrade from there and making
sure you keep a working old kernel and install this new kernel beside the old
one.

I'm only a little bit familiar with server commandlines and no expert on
Linux at all, so please search the forum and documents section for
information on other type of installs.

2009-05-08 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 366298] Re: package memtest86+ 2.01-1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: unable to make backup link of `./boot/memtest86+.bin' before installing new version: Operation not permitted

2009-05-08 Thread Szabó András
As in my previous report but when starting the boot process the usual
line progress stops about at 40% then continues running text lines
rather fast to read, finally stops and waiting some entry. Nothing entry
helps, (only [H^ or something like these appears). When pressing
CTRL+ALT+DEL keys the machine reports that some process has been killed
(?), appears rcS and afterwards rc5 within a text environment (fastly
scrolls up and I could not copy or record it) then the start process
finishes and appears the normal desktop structure.

All these happened with Ubuntu 8.10 installed at the D: partition with
WUBI near a FAT 32 file system Windows 98SE on C: and afterwards
upgrading the 8.10 to 9.04.

[Bug 197762] Re: file transfers on USB disk are very slow

2009-05-08 Thread Kurt De Smet
Hi Lucas,

I noticed everything goes fine until the memory gets full, then starts
the swapping and the slowdown. It's like the memory is used as buffer,
when that runs out it uses the virtual memory on the HD. No problem with
small sizes that fit the memory but when you select 100 GB at once ...
then the HD starts writing to itself fairly rapidly. When AHCI was
enabled the memory gets used to but strangely enough it does not use the
virtual memory (NCQ?). As you stated the NCQ may prevents the HD from
playing with itself. It may not be the main problem (that's why I didn't
file a bug) but I'm fairly sure some people have IDE selected or only
have IDE in their BIOS. I only thought it was worth mentioning how I
solved my problem because I read very similar stories to mine here. It
could be good to know if they are using a PATA or SATA drive as source.
Once you filter those out you can narrow down to the real problem.

[Bug 368959] Re: USB devices is not being automounted after connect it

2009-05-08 Thread luca_ing
I wonder if this is caused by two automounters fighting over the
devices?

It's a long shot, but I have both the ubuntu and kubuntu metapackages
installed, and perhaps this is the root cause. Mind you, only one user
is logged in at all times, so KDE and Gnome never run in parallel -
except for the fact that I use some KDE programs all the time.

For reference, I'm pasting the output of ps ax, in the hope that it
might provide a clue.

[Bug 366231] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 Will Not Work on HP m9250f

2009-05-08 Thread mamamel
Mamamel reporting again,

Following advice, disconnected every USB device...with exception of
keyboard mouse

Installation now works; I made sure to run updates and fully update /
patch the OS

Then I started connecting USB devices one by one,
connect...rebootsee if OS would boot OK

Logitech Webcam OK (tested w/ Cheese), external USB Seagate Hard Drive
OK, even the Canon Scanner (CanoScan Lide 90)

and the culprit was..my APC Back-UPS LS700; which also has a USB
connection into PC (dual Booting with Vista 64 bit, for use with
shutdown software). That was last device connected; as soon as I
restarted PCboot froze up at exactly same place (although error
message throws you off balance Bluetooth entry) and never booted OK
again

Once I disconnected the UPS USB cable, bingo.everything worked OK

So it doesn't seem to be a permissions problem or something like that,
just the information about newly inserted devices gets stuck somewhere.

[Bug 366231] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 Will Not Work on HP m9250f

2009-05-08 Thread mamamel
Hope this info helps somebody later on...before giving up disconnect
every USB device

Test installation again, if it works update / patch OS then start
connecting USB devices one by one, reboot and keep doing until you find
what USB device is the culprit

In my case, I am officially reporting that an HP m9250f will not install
Ubuntu 9.04 (32 or 64 bits) successfully if you have an APC Back-UPS LS
700 connected to PC's USB port

So obviously, there is a problem at that level (USB devices), see
DarkInnate's postsame problem but on that case it was an HP LaserJet
1020 on USB port as well

[Bug 373561] [NEW] [Jaunty] awesome version is REALLY deprecated

2009-05-08 Thread Cédric Jeanneret
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: awesome

Hello,

Is it possible to have an up-to-date version for awesome ? as 2.3 is... well...
it's unusable, and deprecated.
Now they have 3.2, and this one is really stable...
As source-compilation isn't really how ubuntu intends to install package, I
think it can be a good idea to put awesome-3.2 in APT...

Regards,

C.

Reopening. Of course it is a bug in the kernel _build_, just not in the
kernel source. Now that findutils is fixed, we need a new upload of
linux to build against the new findutils.

[Bug 350117] Re: Dragon Player gives static instead of soundtrack with certain codec

2009-05-08 Thread Ganton
In Kubuntu 9.04 The same happens in two computers I administer.

For example if:
1) you go to any of these places
http://www.youtube.com/v/46VoSA-9Xd8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FW6F_g3upKA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qw-J8kC5DHo
2) you try to play the files that are left in /tmp

Note: in the prior version (8.04) this worked ok.

[Bug 309163] Re: Open File dialog fails with inexplicable Please select a file to open error

2009-05-08 Thread Paul Gevers
Just want to let you know, I made improvements to lesstif2 (which is now
in Debian; sync request for Ubuntu in bug 369383). I hope that I will
come up with an improved version of nedit tonight or somewhere this
weekend. I will include them in my PPA [1]. When testing is successful,
you could figure out if this warrants a SRU [2].

[Bug 373460] Re: OOo 3.1.0 Build-Depends: move from universe to main

As far as I know I believe the packages below were only added to main

new packages listed. Do they need MIRs written up as they are
essentially just forks of packages already in main?

They don't need MIR wiki pages, but please open a bug report and
subscribe ubuntu-mir, with the list below. Then we have a track
 record.

It just seems strange to me why the packages were forked in the first
place? What's wrong with using the standard packages? Duplicating code
is always nasty and a maintenance nightmare, so we should think twice
 before we do this IMHO.

Well they make patches to programs they use and the normal build
procedure is to just use all of the 3rd party code that is shipped in
the OOo tarball. Those were split out in Debian and this is the result.
Long term it would definitely be a good idea to get all of those things
merged back with upstream if at all possible.

[Bug 373460] Re: OOo 3.1.0 Build-Depends: move from universe to main

2009-05-08 Thread Martin Pitt
Right, I understand that they sometimes make patches, but usually they
should be applied directly to the original package and fed back
upstream, no? How come that we could build OO.o against the system
libraries so far?

I have to say that splitting out OO.o specific libraries into separate
packages is much worse than having internal copies of them, since that
encourages other packages to use the -oo.o variants as well and thus
make the mess even worse.

Subject: [Bug 372064] Re: package manager

Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
 help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
 in the report please include:

 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System
 - About Ubuntu.
 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or
 by checking in Synaptic.
 3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

I would like to add, that if there is 20 wlan access point in the reach
and you have a small screen (netbook), you just cannot browse because of
the extra CPU activity. Scrolling just about 10 pixels up takes 2-3
seconds, so this bug renders almost useless the whole access point list.

[Bug 355155] Re: Computer hard locks randomly with ubuntu jaunty

2009-05-08 Thread Polygon
brntoki , first off, what logs are you going to report? i have not found
any mention of any problems pertaining to this hard locking issue in any
of the logs, kern.logm messages, etc. If you do find something that
might be related, share it so i can check my logs

also, yeah it might be network. My wireless router (an apple airport),
likes to...reset itself or disconnect everyone in the house for a few
minutes before it allows us to reconnect. One time that jaunty froze, i
just got the notify-osd popup that my network had disconnected, and it
was at that moment that my computer froze.

[Bug 373565] [NEW] Expo plugin and Workspace Switcher hides applications/windows

2009-05-08 Thread j0sh
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 9.04
Gnome 2.26.1
Kernel 2.6.28-11-generic
metacity 2.25.144

Reproduction of bug:
1) Workspace Switcher initially has 4 Columns and 1 Row.
2) I keep nautilus file browser open on Workspace 1
3) I keep firefox open on Workspace 3
4) Now change Workspace Switcher preferences from 1 row to 2 rows. So that
makes 4 Columns and 2 Rows.
5) Use Expo to navigate to Workspace 5 (6,7, or 8), i.e. any workspace on Row 2.
6) Change the Workspace Switcher preferences from 2 rows back to 1 row. That
makes it 4 Columns and 1 Row.

What happened: The nautilus and firefox appear to have disappeared, but
they are just way up on the screen (The window edge is sometimes
noticeable in the Workspace Switcher). This gives the impression to the
user that the applications have been closed. Changing preferences of
Workspace Switcher back to 2 rows from 1 row helps get back the open
applications.

What should have happened: The open applications should have seamlessly
been transferred to active Workspaces, giving the user the impression
that Workspace Switcher was smart enough to manage workspaces.

Very trivial bug for experienced ubuntu users, but new users will feel
that the system crashed.

[Bug 373533] Re: Trouble shooting text

2009-05-08 Thread Till Kamppeter
If you get correct printout, don't bother.

If you have a printing problem, you attach this information to a bug
report, as you did now. Then we will look through the information and
this helps us to fix the bug. If it is cryptic for you, it is not
designed for end user consumption, but for attaching to bug reports.

Having purely this information without any description what went wrong
it does not help much. I have looked through it and it seems you have
printed a job successfully. In this case you do not have a bug. If your
printer did not print anything or if it printed garbage, please report a
bug and attach the troubleshooting file.

See also https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems for more info
about reporting printing-related bugs.

The troubleshooting facility works as designed, closing bug ...

[Bug 373451] Re: Links on legal page broken online - references system files

2009-05-08 Thread Matthew East
Thanks for the report. Did you see a page which linked to the broken
page? All the links in documents should point at

to stop the broken pages from being generated, but they aren't causing
any harm unless there are links pointing at them, so unless you see

[Bug 355263] Re: snd-ice1712: no sound if SPDIF is unplugged

I don't find what I have changed to have the bug reappear. I have no
sound when GDM start before I open my session, so I don't think this is
a problem related to my personal settings.

I have tried to remove pulseaudio, the problem is still here.

This is the last actions I did when the problem appeared :

sudo gedit /etc/security/limits.conf
sudo adduser theo audio
sudo adduser theo disk

[Bug 354816] Re: system freeze when using network with linux-rt on smp amd64 machines

2009-05-08 Thread Les
My problem seems similar, but with different hardware.

When I use the internet, and especially if I try to download updates, my
PC will freeze. First the application seems to freeze, then within 15
seconds, the mouse will as well.

Athlon 64 x2
AMD 690 chipset on a Gigabyte MB
4 gigs ram

Both the 32 and 64 bit version do the EXACT same thing.

Thanks
