[Bug 381568] [NEW] request to update table btree:/var/run/smtp_tls_session_cache in non-postfix directory /var/run

2009-05-29 Thread Siegfried Gevatter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

Attempting to send a mail with Postfix I got the following in the log
and ScottK asked me to report it.

May 29 09:38:08 gepard postfix/tlsmgr[9253]: warning: request to update table
btree:/var/run/smtpd_tls_session_cache in non-postfix directory /var/run

May 29 09:38:08 gepard postfix/tlsmgr[9253]: warning: redirecting the request
to postfix-owned data_directory /var/lib/postfix

Scott, seems like it hasn't showed up anymore after fixing the relay. Do
you still want this bug report?

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 329974 ***

I do not know where to post this so forgive me if it is in the wrong place. I
had a almost perfect printer system on a winxp machine accessed by my Ubuntu
8.4 when i upgraded to 9.04 I can not print. I can work with all the folders on
my winxp machine from the Ubuntu machine. The printer seems to have become
invisible to the Ubuntu machine. I am a newbie and although technically Ok I
wanted to use Ubuntu so I wouldn't have all the irritations of a winxp system..
now It seems I cannot escape ..
I do not have Samba connected printers showing in the Systemadminprinting
dialog.. it does show other options none of which seem to apply, if I pick
Networked printers then even with all the variations of IP for winxp ect I get
nowhere. Is there a way to diagnose this bug ? If anyone can give me detailed
info on doin g so I will be pleased to try. Maybe the bug can then be fixed for
everyone.

The Motorman - see post above - should cure your problem: Workaround found,
but bug remains:
I used my Windows box IP address instead of Browsing for the printer. This
permitted me to go to the next steps and created a printer, although it didn't
work, i.e. the test page didn't print. However, I then clicked a change URI
button and it presented another opportunity to Browse. This time browsing found
the Windows printer, correctly changed the path and then the test page printed.
Screen snapshot is attached..

I am using Ubuntu Jaunty 9.10 e/w all current updates.
 smbclient: Installed: 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3

First let me state that the Windows Networked/Shared printer can be
utilized just fine by two other Linux computers on mine - (1) a Dell 910
Netbook running Ubuntu 8.04 and another computer running Xubuntu 8.10. I
print just fine from these machines, but NOT Jaunty 9.04.

There are a number of posts in GENERAL regarding Jaunty having various
problems with Networked Printers, but none quite like my problem. I feel
that this is actually a networking/SAMBA issue, so that is why I posted it
 here.

When I try to add a printer attached to and shared on my Windows XP box
 with System-Administration-Printing, New-Network Printer-Windows Printer
via SAMBA, Browse - I get right up to where clicking the little gray
diamonds should reveal a networked printer and Poof the dialog crashes and
 is gone.

Note: Squirrel is the hostname of my Windows XP box.

 If I browse Places-Network-Windows Network-MSHOME-SQUIRREL, the Windows
shares are seen but without a printer. Instead there is a networked folder
named Print$ which I suspect is the printer being incorrectly recognized. I
have attached an image of what I see in the browse network window to my XP
 machine.

Re: [Bug 329974] Re: SIGSEGV in _nss_dns_gethostbyname2_r() browsing Samba printers, i386 only

2009-05-29 Thread Ed Comer

Read:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1140448

The workaround does work.

Also, remember that SAMBA does not enable you to see Windows shares,
that is what smbclient does. SAMBA is what lets Windows see Linux
shares. Nonetheless, if you can see your Windows system's shares, then
this workaround will fix the printer issue.

[Bug 381555] [NEW] banshee does not transcode oga to mp3 when sending to ipod

2009-05-29 Thread Marc Poulhiès
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: banshee

When I send music to my ipod with banshee, it simply copies de original
files. If they are mp3, it works. But most of my files are vorbis files
(.oga) and the ipod doesn't handle them. The ipod can see the albums,
but is unable to play them. The files on the ipod are correctly copied
and end up with names like ABCD.oga. There is no error/warning message
in the console.

This may be the same bug as 337075, but as I have no error message, I prefered
to file a new one.
I tried to run banshee in debug mode to get something, but there is not a
single line displayed when triggering the transfer.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
Package: banshee 1.4.3-4~hyper1+jaunty1

 LANG=en_US.UTF-8

[Bug 381555] Re: banshee does not transcode oga to mp3 when sending to ipod

2009-05-29 Thread Marc Poulhiès
I see only after reporting that I was using a ppa package for banshee,
so I removed it and installed the ubuntu one. But I have the exact same
behavior. I tried to use ubuntu-bug to generate a new report, but when I
click on the yes this is the bug I'm trying to submit, LP tells me
This bug is already marked as affecting you..

So, I confirm I have the bug with banshee from jaunty: 1.4.3-3ubuntu2

[Bug 381557] [NEW] shuffle by artist/album always disabled

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: banshee

The shuffle by artist/album options are always greyed out, I've never been able

Haven't encountered this sort of problem ever since. At the time, I was
trying 8.04 on my computer. I didn't try 8.04 on that particular computer
again, but no other computer I've tried has reproduced that phennomenon.

[Bug 372089] Re: Evolution mail dont save password keeps asking

2009-05-29 Thread klokwurx
I get this also but if I shut down and reboot entirely the problem goes
away for a time. I'm not convinced that this isn't a SECURITY ISSUE.
I can go for days without problems ... then this 'loss of passwords' re-appears.

Within minutes of me enterring the passwords to re-instate my email
accounts (I have multiple accounts) there is a flurry of spam generated
from my hijacked accounts.

I don't believe this is a 'bug' (per se) .. it has mucjh more the
characteristics of a SECURITY BREACH that someone has learned to exploit
and requires fixing with a much higher profile than presently assigned.

[Bug 380392] Re: Use ODF 1.1 as standard instead ODF 1.2 (Draft)

2009-05-29 Thread Chris Cheney
You are free to change the default in your copy of OOo to ODF 1.0/1.1.
All other versions/distributions of OOo 3.0+ use ODF 1.2 draft so you
will see interoperability regardless if other applications don't support
1.2 draft. Also ODF 1.0/1.1 does not even standardize formulas so even
if you do save to ODF 1.0/1.1 format you will still have
interoperability problems with it, especially with MS Office 2007 SP2,
that is part of what ODF 1.2 draft is trying to fix.

[Bug 381567] [NEW] rdesktop keyboard mapping broken under VNC

2009-05-29 Thread Juha Aatrokoski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rdesktop

If rdesktop 1.6.0-2ubuntu1 is run under VNC (vnc4server or
tightvncserver) the keyboard mapping is broken: keys produce wrong
characters and modifiers may be ignored or assumed (e.g. with a finnish
keymap the '0' key should produce 0=} with itself/shift/altgr, but it
produces 00, and the key to the right of it should produce +?\ but
instead produces ??\). This is caused by the patch
02_raw_keyboard_support.dpatch: if the rdesktop package is rebuilt
without that patch then the keyboard works fine under VNC.

[Bug 377194] Re: Thinkpad T61 locks up / freezes randomly; no flashing caps lock light, mouse cursor can be moved

2009-05-29 Thread Martin Rehn
I did two more things. I ran Memtest86+ (v. 2.11) repeatedly on the
machine, with no errors. Then I tried installing the 2.6.30-rc7 kernel
(image-386, headers-all and headers-386) from http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.30-rc7/) and the freezes and symptoms remain
the same as with the Jaunty 2.6.28 kernel. I verified that I am booting
the 2.6.30 kernel after installing it.

Is there anything else that is kernel-related to try? Could it be the
Intel graphics drivers after all? What should I try here? This machine
was fine with Intrepid, but now it is useless.

So

[Bug 379780] Re: High cpu usage after upgrade to 141-1.1

2009-05-29 Thread Christian Mallwitz
Same problem here: new FUJITSU SIEMENS Amilo Si 3655 with fresh install
of Ubuntu 9.04 x64. Only out of the ordinary: I have VirtualBox OSE
installed.

The kernel seems to constantly generate messages that something changed
with the DVD drive and udevd is processing the kernel events (according
to the udevadm monitor output). It is actually becoming more and more
CPU consuming over time. I have no idea how to figure out what the

[Bug 317094] Re: evtouch meta bug to collect lshal info

2009-05-29 Thread Amit Kucheria
For everyone that has sent their lshal output to this bug, try the
following:

$ lsusb
Find your vendor id and product id for the touchscreen.
$ modprobe usbtouchscreen
$ sudo sh -c echo vendor id product id
/sys/bus/usb/drivers/usbtouchscreen/new_id

e.g. From my lsusb, one of the entries is:
Bus 005 Device 002: ID 0483:2016 SGS Thomson Microelectronics Fingerprint Reader

So the vendor id is 0483, device id is 2016.

So the above command would become something like:
$ sudo sh -c echo 0483 2016  /sys/bus/usb/drivers/newfingerprintdriver/new_id

Please report back if your touchscreen starts working.

R: [Bug 301353] Re: HP Pavilion dv5: ATA exception on resume from suspend

2009-05-29 Thread Icarosaurus
I installed the F.16 bios into my dv5-1140el. Things works better now,
but not flawlessy.

-The resume takes long and an error message about my dvb-t card unable to find
the firmware shows. Some errors about bluetooth show also.
-I hear annoying and loud clicks coming from the speakers everytime i go
up/down with the volume or use skype. This doesn't happen before resume.
-Sometimes, the laptop hangs when trying to turn off after resume.

Anyway, it looks like the scratching sounds that i heard when i turned
off my computer are gone away.

Thanks for your effort in solving this odyssey.

[Bug 314037] Re: linux-kernel 2.6.27-9 crashes at boot process

2009-05-29 Thread Andrew Totmakov
I have the same issue with new kernel (28). Some time ago it loaded fine
with the older kernel (27) but now it doesn't load at all.

I found some solution on Ubuntu Forums but I haven't tried it yet:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=993518
Hope it will be helpful.

[Bug 267371] Re: [gvfs] [smb] Damaged OpenOffice files from samba shares

2009-05-29 Thread Enrico Nadrag
Is there any chance of a backport to Intrepid?

IMHO a backport to Hardy should also be considered
because this bug is problematic in networking environments.
Lets say in environments where LTS versions are preferred.

[Bug 108563] Re: [Feisty] Microphone not working

2009-05-29 Thread Rene Hasekamp
There is no bug here. The solution seems simple to me:

Both e-mike and i-mike are muted in Ubuntu 9.04 by default:
Click on the loudspeaker icon near the clock, choose volume control and see
if the mikes are muted (little red cross over them). Click on the crossed mikes
and they will work. (i-mike is the internalone, e-mike is the external one).
That's it!
