*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 329974 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/329974 I do not know where to post this so forgive me if it is in the wrong place. I had a almost perfect printer system on a winxp machine accessed by my Ubuntu 8.4 when i upgraded to 9.04 I can not print. I can work with all the folders on my winxp machine from the Ubuntu machine. The printer seems to have become invisible to the Ubuntu machine. I am a newbie and although technically Ok I wanted to use Ubuntu so I wouldn't have all the irritations of a winxp system.. now It seems I cannot escape .. I do not have Samba connected printers showing in the Systemadminprinting dialog.. it does show other options none of which seem to apply, if I pick Networked printers then even with all the variations of IP for winxp ect I get nowhere. Is there a way to diagnose this bug ? If anyone can give me detailed info on doin g so I will be pleased to try. Re: [Bug 329974] Re: SIGSEGV in _nss_dns_gethostbyname2_r() browsing Samba printers, i386 only
Read: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1140448 The workaround does work. Also, remember that SAMBA does not enable you to see Windows shares, that is what smbclient does. SAMBA is what lets Windows see Linux shares. Nonetheless, if you can see your Windows system's shares, then this workaround will fix the printer issue. --- On Fri, 5/29/09, the motorman rdoct...@gmail.com wrote: From: the motorman rdoct...@gmail.com Subject: [Bug 329974] Re: SIGSEGV in _nss_dns_gethostbyname2_r() browsing Samba printers, i386 only To: remocmail-1s...@yahoo.com Date: Friday, May 29, 2009, 11:00 PM 9.04 seems to have a problem and cannot print to winxp although I could with 8.4 . I get this also but if I shut down and reboot entirely the problem goes away for a time. I'm not convinced that this isn't a SECURITY ISSUE. I can go for days without problems ... then this 'loss of passwords' re-appears. Within minutes of me enterring the passwords to re-instate my email accounts (I have multiple accounts) there is a flurry of spam generated from my hijacked accounts. I don't believe this is a 'bug' (per se) .. it has mucjh more the characteristics of a SECURITY BREACH that someone has learned to exploit and requires fixing with a much higher profile than presently assigned. -- Evolution mail dont save password keeps asking https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/372089 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

You are free to change the default in your copy of OOo to ODF 1.0/1.1. [Bug 377194] Re: Thinkpad T61 locks up / freezes randomly; no flashing caps lock light, mouse cursor can be moved
I did two more things. I ran Memtest86+ (v. 2.11) repeatedly on the machine, with no errors. Then I tried installing the 2.6.30-rc7 kernel (image-386, headers-all and headers-386) from http://kernel.ubuntu.com /~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.30-rc7/) and the freezes and symptoms remain the same as with the Jaunty 2.6.28 kernel. I verified that I am booting the 2.6.30 kernel after installing it. Is there anything else that is kernel-related to try? Could it be the Intel graphics drivers after all? What should I try here? R: [Bug 301353] Re: HP Pavilion dv5: ATA exception on resume from suspend
I installed the F.16 bios into my dv5-1140el. Things works better now, but not flawlessy. -The resume takes long and an error message about my dvb-t card unable to find the firmware shows. Some errors about bluetooth show also. -I hear annoying and loud clicks coming from the speakers everytime i go up/down with the volume or use skype. This doesn't happen before resume. -Sometimes, the laptop hangs when trying to turn off after resume. Anyway, it looks like the scratching sounds that i heard when i turned off my computer are gone away. Thanks for your effort in solving this odyssey. --- Ven 29/5/09, Paul Swanson p...@procursa.com ha scritto: Da: Paul Swanson p...@procursa.com Oggetto: [Bug 301353] Re: HP Pavilion dv5: ATA exception on resume from suspend A: giusc...@yahoo.it Data: Venerdì 29 maggio 2009, 05:58 I haven't yet applied the BIOS to update to my dv5 as I need to help Tejun with some patch testing this weekend but ... [Bug 108563] Re: [Feisty] Microphone not working
There is no bug here. The solution seems simple to me: Both e-mike and i-mike are muted in Ubuntu 9.04 by default: Click on the loudspeaker icon near the clock, choose volume control and see if the mikes are muted (little red cross over them). Click on the crossed mikes and they will work. (i-mike is the internalone, e-mike is the external one).
