Bonjour,

[Bug 481412] [NEW] Pictures Folder screensaver should be more dynamic

2009-11-12 Thread Miguel Martinez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

If the Pictures Folder screensaver is selected, an endless loop of
images appear in exactly the same way: centered and resized, while
keeping the original aspect ratio. The background, in case the images
don't fit the screen, is a constant black. Furthermore, the fading
animation seems a tad too fast.

It would be nice to have a slightly more complex pictures screensaver.
For example, images could appear inside a subtle frame. Additionally, a
random number generator could be used to display either 1 or 2 pictures
at the same time. Two images would appear in opposite corners, and one
of them could have a small rotation. As a background, one could use a
matte tiled pattern, or something resembling a photo book, or a papyrus.
I'll try to supply a mockup.

There's also a possibility of F-spot themed integration: if ratings are
easily retrievable, there could be one main big image (chosen amongst
the best rated, with some key word) and put a small picture (same
folder, with a lower ranking) on a corner, in a stamp like fashion.

This could have another name, instead of Pictures Folders, it could be
named Photo Showroom. Furthermore, and following gnome interface
guidelines, no configuration should be needed: the current values for
transition are OK, although a slower fading could be nice.

BTW: This is inspired by the Windows Live Photo Gallery screensaver.
Once you have a decent collection of photos, looking at the screensaver
with pictures of your girlfriend or holidays can be highly addictive.

This is clearly a wishlist, although I'm not sure I should directly mark
it so in the bug description.

[Bug 480922] Re: mysql transition without meta-package

2009-11-12 Thread amichair
In any case, it should either upgrade to 5.1, or leave 5.0, or ask which
to use, or notify that there's a conflict and explain why. A smooth
upgrade (as far as the user can tell) followed by a broken mysql which
fails to start for no obvious reason (it's not apparent from the logs)
is a bug in the upgrade process.

[Bug 440117] Re: liplianin-s2 works under 2.6.28 but not under 2.6.31

2009-11-12 Thread gocin
The Bug is resolved - I found the solution in some threads:

First I needed to install the package libncurses5-dev course it's
missing

sudo apt-get install libncurses5-dev

Then I needed to unchoose the module Firedtv/Floppydtv using

sudo make menuconfig

then

Multimedia Support - DVB/ATSC Adapter - Firedtv/Floppydtv

After that the driver compiles as before :-)

Many thanks to Eishailiga und the other guys in the thread!

[Bug 409575] Re: told ubiquity to install grub to sda6, but it breaks grub on mbr

2009-11-12 Thread walterav
Another Update!
old post 2:
I will try a manually install to external usb disk and see if it still breaks
the mbr of the internal disk... keep ya updated!

I did it and just finished 2 test installs on a external memory-stick.
One affected the mbr on my internal /dev/sda the other install did
nothing to the mbr on /dev/sda. I found out why!

swap partition:
My internal first harddisk /dev/sda also contains a swap partition, during
install of ubuntu to external memory stick /dev/sdf, it also selects the
swap partition on my internal harddisk for swap. As this is automatically
done during the manual partitioning of the installation, I consider this as
another serious BUG! because I never asked for it!
When I manually deselect the swap volume on /dev/sda and continue installation
and manually select the mbr/grub install for /dev/sdf everything works. Booting
from internal hd still works and booting from external memory stick after
deselecting the swap on /dev/sda!

last and
I will try one install with automatic partitioning just to the external memory
stick for the last test, If that one also screws the mbr on my internal disc
than there is a serious bug somewhere

PHP4:
sybase_min_client_severity
sybase_min_server_severity

PHP5: (similar)
sybase_min_error_severity
sybase_min_message_severity

Maybe the functions are equivalent to each other, didn't compare them
thoroughly.
What I need is that I can prevent that Xdebug croaks on every tiny DB warning
with this command
   sybase_min_message_severity(100);

What I did:
I searched for strings in the php5 mssql.so file using this command:
 strings /usr/src/php5-5.2.4/debian/php5-sybase/usr/lib/php5/20060613/mssql.so
| grep ^sybase_ | sort -u sybphp5.txt

and in the php4 sybase_ct.so file with
strings /opt/install/php-4.3.7/ext/sybase_ct/php_sybase_ct.o | grep ^sybase_ |
sort -u sybphp5.txt

These functions seem to be new in php5
sybase_bind
sybase_execute
sybase_fetch_batch
sybase_field_length
sybase_field_name
sybase_field_type
sybase_free_statement
sybase_guid_string
sybase_init
sybase_min_error_severity
sybase_min_message_severity
sybase_next_result
sybase_rows_affected
~

Note that PHP4 Sybase Functions
sybase_set_message_handler
sybase_unbuffered_query

seem indeed to be gone in php5

 Fabrice,

Yes, I'll work with dag on it. As for Fix Committed, please note that I
was backing it off from Fix Released, since that certainly wasn't the

what I can do with dag.

Noel,

Can you please test the current snapshot on various Ubuntu releases ? I am
in this spiral where without testing I don't feel confident to release,
but without release I don't seem to get any testing.

And since I do everything on CentOS 5, that doesn't cover enough
grounds.

[Bug 481413] [NEW] KARMIC - FF 3.5.x AND FF 3.6.beta2 randomly crash to Desktop.

2009-11-12 Thread emarkay
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

This is in a reformat install, nothing changed but the usual suite of
add-ons:

AskForSanitize, BetterPrivacy, FireFTP, FlashBlock, ImageZoom,
NoScript, ReloadEvery, take me to this URL, Littlefox and OpenDNS for
Firefox.

It is not a Flash issue and there is no error messages. Just an
immediate appearance of the desktop. On reloading, some times the This
is embarrassing restore dialog appears, other times the previous
session just reloads.

I did submit a CrashReport last night when it happened in FF 3.6.b2 to
Mozilla.

What can I do to assist in solving this?

[Bug 422174] Re: cannot connect to hidden ssid

2009-11-12 Thread kiloxxx
I confirm that the fix in post #17 (sudo iwlist wlan0 scan essid
hiddenwlanssid) works; the fix also solved another problem related to
the fact that the wi-fi connection was previously unable to resume after
a suspension.

The strange thing is that my hidden connection previously needed a web
authentication, while I could now connect directly to the Internet
without any authentication...

[Bug 386233] Re: nautilus should indicate when properties are updating

2009-11-12 Thread Sense Hofstede
I've found a very similar report upstream and posted a comment there
telling them about the suggestion.

I'm setting the status to Triaged because we've handled this bug now and
the status to Wishlist because it's more an enhancement request than a
regression report.

[Bug 479968] Re: Touchpad buttons don't swap when selecting left handed mouse option [Dell Latitude D620]

2009-11-12 Thread fedorowp
Also applies to Dell XPS M1210 laptop which uses a Synaptics touchpad.

Can anyone confirm if this bug only effects Dell laptops?

Laptop sales now exceed 50% of PCs sold, and just about all laptops have
touchpads. With 7%-10% of computer users being left-handed, this bug
effects between 1 out of 28 potential/actual Ubuntu users, and 1 out of
20.

[Bug 438136] Re: palimpsest bad sectors false positive

2009-11-12 Thread Titan T. Fox
Hello,

I update my Ubuntu daily (Karmic Koala 9.10, AMD64 / EXT-4 Filesystem).
A couple of days ago I noticed that Palimpsest changed Health Status
from OK to Unknown. S.M.A.R.T. Status was OK, but also changed to
unknown as did Overall Assessment.

I ran a extended self-test but nothing changes though the harddisk is
definately okay. Also did a complete removal of gnome-disk-utility,
rebooted and reinstalled it without succes. I booted with Ultimate Boot-
CD and did complete harddisk-diagnostic (including a mechanical check,
electronics test and a full-sector check) with software provided by the
manufacturer of my harddrive. Everything is OK, including S.M.A.R.T., so
it must be a software bug of some kind.

My harddrive is a Samsung HM160HC, IDE, 5400 RPM, 2,5 (notebook) and is
about 5 months old.

[Bug 410407] Re: [READ DESCRIPTION] Flash is not recognizing mouse clicks in multiple situations

2009-11-12 Thread SEWilco
My only problem with Ubuntu 9.10 Flash is that it's ignoring clicks to
change preferences. Seems different from these problems.

However, there are problems with the list at the top of the page:

WORKAROUND 1: Disable compiz
* Don't know how to do that. man compiz gives no hints. Comments suggest
SystemPreferencesAppearanceVisual Effects=None. Oddly, none of the radio
buttons were set (maybe due to upgrade to 9.10?). Set to None.. no change.
WORKAROUND 2: Remove flashplugin-nonfree / flashplugin-installer and install
from adobe
* I'll consider that, but comments indicate that is experimental. Maybe that
status should be mentioned.
WORKAROUND 3: Open a terminal and enter: gksudo gedit
/usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/i386/linux/npviewer
* No such directory in Ubuntu 9.10.

[Bug 481416] [NEW] Ubuntu One can not connect on second machine

2009-11-12 Thread Nils-Christoph Fiedler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

I have successfully installed and running Ubuntu One on my first
computer. Now I wanted to get access through my second computer, but the
client simply wont connect. I also do NOT get the possibility to add a
second machine through the Ubuntu One website! It seems that the Website
thinks, that I am on my other machine or whatever. I have never seen the
dialog to add a second machine! And there doesnt seem to be an exploit
or something like a direct link to this possibility. The few settings
within the clients panel icon dont give me any possibility to solve my
problem here. I am just able to set an autostart and update option.

[Bug 480144] Re: [Karmic] Update to 2.6.31.6 Stable Kernel

2009-11-12 Thread Leann Ogasawara
** Description changed:

SRU Justification/Impact: The upstream process for stable tree updates
is quite similar in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch

backported form of that patch. The 2.6.31.6 upstream stable patch set is
now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu kernel as well.

[Bug 453895] Re: Online-Actions not working in GnuCash

2009-11-12 Thread Steffu
I had the same problem, did the same as Gregor, nothing worked, I then used
aqbanking from lucid (version 4.1.8) and now everything works fine again.

It seems to be a problem of the aqbanking version in karmic (4.1.2),
that apparently has been solved with version 4.1.6, see
the comment for this version in the news tracker of aqbanking:

saving of particular
user and account information. Affected users were not able to retrieve account

Re: [Bug 481367] Re: Pulseaudio Connection Refused for chipset intel 82801G

2009-11-12 Thread Daniel T Chen
Please describe your configuration -- are you attempting to use
PulseAudio in system-wide daemon mode (not the default in Ubuntu, not
recommended by upstream, user is assumed to be knowledgeable about
troubleshooting, etc.) or in the default per-user GNOME session mode?

Please note that your /etc/asound.conf and ~/.asoundrc* are all
obsolete -- the pulseaudio package already ships an equivalent
alsa-lib conffile (and has done so since Ubuntu 8.10) -- so please
remove them.
