[Bug 540747] [NEW] Apache Web DAV incorrect permissions
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: apache2 I am a Git pull/push through Apache https user, and I also use the file- based protocol. Recently I noticed that the Git repository was filled with objects of permission -rw-- belonging to www-data, the Apache server username. After further digging, this is not Git's problem, but possibly mod_dav_fs's. In fact, any file transferred with a DAV PUT command results in said 0600 permissions. Although this is arguably a feature of Ubuntu, I found that the behavior differs from a standard Apache server. To reproduce: 1) Download the original archive from http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/a/apache2/apache2_2.2.14.orig.tar.gz and build with ./configure --enable-dav-fs=shared --enable-dav-lock=shared --enable-dav=shared. This should result in a mod_dav_fs.so library in modules/dav/fs/.libs. Place such a shared library in /usr/lib/apache/modules as a replacement for the one already there. 2) Set up a DAV location like so: IfModule dav_fs_module Location /test DAV on /Location /IfModule 3) Use cadaver to connect to your server and PUT a file in location test. The idea is that the permissions come out as 0600 for the standard Lucid installation and 0644 for the vanilla Apache module. Further evidence supporting the idea that the problem arises from Ubuntu packaging is the rather extensive modifications to mod_dav_fs code in the diff found at http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/a/apache2/apache2_2.2.14-5ubuntu3.diff.gz. [Bug 539791] Re: mount.cifs cannot mount a DFS share when using Kerberos authentication
From https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7257#c12 : Ok, I think I see what's happening. The server in this case is sending a principal name back to the client in the Negotiate Protocol response. smbclient is using that to get a ticket name. Note that this is really bad behavior by both the server and client. The client, in particular since you're essentially trusting the server to tell you what service principal to use. This allows an attacker to potentially spoof DNS and redirect the connection to a server that he/she controls. Not trusting that info was a conscious decision. You can read the thread from a couple of years ago here: http://lists.samba.org/archive/linux-cifs-client/2008-August/003348.html The correct solution is to fix it so that your KDC holds service principals for all possible hostnames. ...now, that said, I'm not 100% opposed to patches that turn on this behavior as an option. I'm not interested in doing that work, but if you or someone else wants to take it on, I'd be willing to help review them. ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium = Low ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Triaged -- mount.cifs cannot mount a DFS share when using Kerberos authentication https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/539791 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 292971] [NEW] nscd leaking memory using libnss-ldap
You have been subscribed to a public bug: We've got our ubuntu servers (8.04.1 LTS) authenticating users against an active directory libpam-krb5 and user account info is gotten via libnss-ldap and nscd. However, the nscd process keeps growing in memory image size until it fills the system memory completely. Memory leak speed seems to correlate to the number of queries against nss. The AD is Windows 2003 R2, using the R2 provided Identity management for UNIX (ex-SFU) to provide LDAP attributes. There are about 50 user objects and a dozen group objects matching the search filters specified in /etc/ldap.conf, plus the stuff that goes with AD by default. On our mail server, which uses nss queries the most and suffers worst from this problem, the memory usage gets up to 95MB (RES) and 203MB (VIRT) in 12 hours as observed by top, and exceeds one gigabyte in 3-5 days. I have tried turning paranoia mode on to restart the service periodically, but for some reason it does not restart, just quits the whole process (I don't know whether the paranoia mode is actually supposed to workin Ubuntu, as it is not mentioned in documentation provided with Ubuntu release, but it's parameters are in default config file, so I decided to try). Just tried to install a fresh Ubuntu 8.04.1 server where I installed only libnss-ldap, nscd and their requirements, configured it for AD connection and left idle for the night. nscd memory usage was up to 100MB in the morning when it initially (few minutes after restart) is about 3.5MB. *** Release and package info *** Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1 Release:8.04 nscd: Installed: 2.7-10ubuntu4 Candidate: 2.7-10ubuntu4 Version table: *** 2.7-10ubuntu4 0 500 http://fi.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/universe Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2.7-10ubuntu3 0 500 http://fi.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/universe Packages *** Sanitized /etc/ldap.conf *** base dc=our,dc=ad,dc=domain uri ldaps://dc1.our.ad.domain ldaps://dc2.our.ad.domain ldap_version 3 rootbinddn nsswi...@our.ad.domain scope sub pam_password crypt nss_base_passwd dc=our,dc=ad,dc=domain?sub?(uidNumber=*) nss_base_group dc=our,dc=ad,dc=domain?sub?(gidNumber=*) nss_map_objectclass posixAccount user nss_map_objectclass shadowAccount user nss_map_attribute uid sAMAccountName nss_map_attribute homeDirectory unixHomeDirectory nss_map_attribute shadowLastChange pwdLastSet nss_map_objectclass posixGroup group nss_map_attribute uniqueMember member pam_login_attribute sAMAccountName pam_filter objectclass=User nss_map_attribute userPassword unixUserPassword ssl on tls_checkpeer no sasl_secprops maxssf=0 nss_initgroups_ignoreusers backup,bin,daemon,dhcp,dovecot,ftp,games,gnats,irc,klog,libuuid,list,lp,mail,man,news,ntp,postfix,proftpd,proxy,root,snmp,sshd,sync,sys,syslog,uucp,www-data *** Password for nsswi...@our.ad.domain in /etc/ldap.secret *** *** Using default package provided /etc/nscd.conf *** ** Affects: libnss-ldap (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: libnss-ldap memory nscd -- nscd leaking memory using libnss-ldap https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/292971 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libnss-ldap in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

It is getting a little too big for my liking as well. The thing is... those tasks will fail to result in a complete UEC setup if you select them. [Bug 198351] Re: fusesmb/smbnetfs SIGABORT in getattr() because libsmbclient is not thread safe
Actually Samba upstream does consider the non-threadsafeness of libsmbclient as a bug, it's just that it's going to take a while to fix it :-). We're slowly but surely moving towards getting a thread safe libsmbclient, Can't promise when it will be done, but it is our intent to get there. So at the moment, libsmbclient is not thread safe. So using separate processes in SMBNetFS is the *only* way to safely use libsmbclient, so I'd argue that libsmbclient in this case isn't exactly buggy, but just not working in the way you want :-). When we finally announce libsmbclient is thread-safe, and your threaded code using it breaks, *then* you can call it buggy :-). But not before please - unless you have specific single-threaded bugs you know about and need fixing. But if that is the case please report them to bugzilla.samba.org and we'll fix them ! [Bug 541486] [NEW] ubuntu-bug eucalyptus-common attaches massive files
Public bug reported: Once bug 520775 is fixed so that someone can successfully run it, running 'ubuntu-bug eucalyptus-common' (or any binary package with eucalyptus as source) will attach massive files in /var/log: axis2c.log cc.log cloud-debug.log cloud-output.log httpd-cc_error_log . $ ls -h --size axis2c.log cc.log cloud-debug.log cloud-output.log httpd-cc_error_log | cat 14M axis2c.log 32M cc.log 9.3M cloud-debug.log 8.5M cloud-output.log 4.0K httpd-cc_error_log The above is from a fairly idle cloud (2 systems, maybe 6 instances run ever, 4 images loaded). I don't know if this is desirable or not. While the logs may be useful, it seems to me that uploading dozens of megabytes is just going to make the user less likely to use the tool. Re: [Bug 541524] Re: BIOS shipped as binary blobs without source
As I said, it's fine to use versions that are shipped in the upstream tarball; I certainly don't care whether the files live in the qemu-kvm package or in vgabios etc. Regardless of this, though, we need to provide source for them or we are infringing the licence on at least the LGPLed BIOS ROMs. Upstream QEMU is not the copyright owner for all of this stuff, as far as I can tell, and does not have the authority to waive our obligations. Aside from legal obligations, we're also skating along the edge of our own licensing policy by not shipping source: http://www.ubuntu.com/community/ubuntustory/licensing. One might point out that BIOS ROMs are firmware and thus might be eligible for a case-by-case exception. Such exceptions were only meant to be granted when the only way we could get some piece of hardware working was to ship some bit of firmware we only had in the form of a binary blob. I don't think anyone ever envisaged that the reason we might be shipping binary blobs would be because it was too hard to build from source accurately, and this doesn't seem like a good basis for an exception. I would strongly recommend building the ROMs from matching source code (I don't think source is really source unless we're actually building the binaries from it - part of the point of shipping source is so that people can make modifications, and if the source doesn't verifiably match what we're shipping then that rather defeats the point). If you're concerned that it might not match, then perhaps you could simply compare it against a checksum after building, with a comment saying that this is to ensure that they match the versions that have been QAed by upstream? I'd have thought that the sort of compilation being done here is using fairly static toolchain elements and thus would produce fairly static output, which would require at most minor massaging to become bitwise-identical to what upstream's shipping. On Thu, Mar 18, 2010 at 10:19:16PM -, Dustin Kirkland wrote: d) package mol, and depend on mol video.x is already in the mol-drivers-macosx package (powerpc only); mol has been in the Ubuntu archive since at least Hoary and I think since the very beginning. It's not identical to the one in qemu-common, although the two files are the same size. mol-drivers-macosx is in multiverse, and in Debian it's in non-free. This is because it is licensed under the AFPL 1.2, which forbids deploying modified versions within an organisation without publishing them, which is a restriction on privacy that we don't want in main. See http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/historical-apsl.html for more discussion here. Right now, qemu-kvm's copyright file doesn't mention the copyright or licence for any of the BIOS ROMs, much less this problem. [Bug 541468] Re: euca-describe-images img lists all images when querying against ec2
Yeah, looks like I can get boto to return the correct image is by setting owners and executable_by to None. If executable_by is set to ['self'], nothing is returned, which does not make a lot of sense. Good luck getting to the bottom of this. Frankly, this is beyond the scope of euca2ools functionality, since it clearly works as expected with Eucalyptus and I can't devote any more time to this. -- euca-describe-images img lists all images when querying against ec2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541468 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to euca2ools in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 541524] Re: BIOS shipped as binary blobs without source
See: * https://launchpad.net/~kirkland/+archive/ppa/+packages I re-rolled the orig tarball after removing the binary blobs, and called it qemu-kvm_0.12.3.noroms.orig.tar.gz. I set it (back to) depending on vgabios and seabios, and suggesting openbios-sparc and mol-drivers- macosx (neither of which have built in Ubuntu in a very long time). I need to do a bit of testing on these. [Bug 541439] [NEW] php5 should provide php5-mhash transitional package to remove mhash.ini conffile
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: php5 When upgrading php5 in Jaunty, php5-mhash gets removed because of a Conflicts. mhash is provided by PHP itself now and therefore this is OK. However, there's the mhash.ini conffile left, which causes a warning on startup: PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/mhash.so' - /usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/mhash.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0 The conffile should probably get removed by shipping an empty php5-mhash transitional package. Alternatively, php5-common might remove the conffile itself?! Apart from that, I could not apt-get purge php5-mhash, because it selects php5-common instead!
