[Bug 541609] Re: When running on a battery in lucid there is no tooltip popup on mouseover
It is indeed a regression; and it isn't just on-battery. If there is external power available and the battery is charging, there is no longer easy mouseover information about how long it will take to complete charging. This information does not appear to be available, regardless of the numbers of clicks or diversionary context changes undertaken. -- When running on a battery in lucid there is no tooltip popup on mouseover https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541609 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 378334] Re: gnome-volume-control: USB headset volume buttons affect laptop speakers, not headset speakers
Hi Stephen, if your Plantronics headset is anything like my Logitech one, it presents itself to the system as both a sound device and a keyboard device. When I press the volume buttons on the headset, it generates volume up/down keyboard events. Probably the easiest way to test this is to pick System - Preferences - Keyboard Shortcuts, click on one of the actions and then press the volume up or down buttons on the headset. If that registers as XF86AudioLowerVolume/RaiseVolume, then your headset is probably like mine. In that case, the underlying problem is that the volume up/down keypresses from the real keyboard are not being distinguished from those of the headset. Fixing this would require: 1. detecting which keyboard the volume up/down keypress came from. 2. associating keyboards with pulseaudio devices 3. update the correct mixer. -- gnome-volume-control: USB headset volume buttons affect laptop speakers, not headset speakers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378334 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 540175] Re: sun-java6
I want to second this request for keeping Sun-Java in the list of supported packages. Besides being Brazilian and subject to the issues already posted by my fellow countrymen here, as a developer I, as well as a the large majority of developers around the world, take advantage of development IDEs to get our work done in an easier and more integrated manner. In my case, I use Eclipse, which is a java application. Although it works to some extent with OpenJDK, not all of it's features work correctly without Oracle's JVM, and it's really slow under OpenJDK. This is true for other IDEs too, as well as many other java apps available out there. I'm aware that we can always get sun-java from other sources, but it would make it a lot more difficult for the not so tech-savvy users to accomplish. Further, the upgrade/update process to newer versions/releases of the package would be a lot more difficult to be done, forcing many of those users to rely upon an outdated and less secure version/release. So, please, let it stay in the list of supported packages or at least, as jmhal pointed out, give Ubuntu users an easy way to install and upgrade/update it from other sources, whatever they might be. -- sun-java6 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/540175 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 379780] Re: CD-ROM polling on some Optiarc drives causes high CPU usage
This bug is really bugging me, because despite being upto date with everything released so far, it wont go away for me. :) I have tried everything recommended on this thread, but the load does not come down as much as if I were to shutdown udev completely. I include a snapshot of all running process, with intermittent udev restarts, to show that the problem does not go away on my machine. As you observe in the attached file, the load drops significantly as soon as I stop udev, but restarting it at various late intervals does not change the load much. Interestingly, powertop reports this suggestion for udevd. The program 'udevd' is writing to file 'block:sr0' on /dev/devtmpfs. This prevents the disk from going to powersave mode. ** Attachment added: udev-load.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/41268255/udev-load.txt -- CD-ROM polling on some Optiarc drives causes high CPU usage https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379780 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi Verstaete, we're a little behind on this stuff - our kernels don't have mmiotrace in Beta 1 but will do before Lucid releases. Yeah, looks like I can get boto to return the correct image is by setting owners and executable_by to None. I will let you know if the problem resurfaces, but the odds that this boot would have been this clean with the last version would have been less than 1 in 10. This would make sense to me. Since you're using encrypted filesystems, you must have cryptsetup installed, so Plymouth is starting from the initramfs. Plymouth will set its TTY up to be in raw mode, and make it the active VT on the console. Upstart starts later, to bring up the full system; and some code existed in there (the last thing done only because sysvinit did) to reset the console with sane settings. This put the console back into cooked mode, ie. Plymouth's active VT. Since Plymouth is now receiving cooked key codes not raw key codes, it's not what it expects; and thus we have the bug where keypresses are missed or mis-interpreted. Later on, this same problem would cause X to crash on the Enter key. So it should be fixed as a result of that fix, we not only fixed bits in Plymouth but dropped that code from Upstart too. I'll mark it fixed now, but please do reopen if you have the issue again, and we'll walk through the code and see what else is going screwy. status fixreleased Scott -- Scott James Remnant sc...@ubuntu.com ** Changed in: plymouth (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Fix Released -- missed passphrase keypress bug is back on MSI Wind U100 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537793 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

To be honest, and now I come to that what you wrote, is your wish about the transparency between Canonical and the community: I think there are some important cases where a work-together and transparency would be really nice. But do you really think that this - buttons - are a essential and important element which has to be supervised by the community? We have to spend all our spare time and energy for this thematic? This peanut can be managed easily by the design team. We should give really only datas, no emotions and without creating a religion from it.
