[Bug 540747] Re: Apache Web DAV incorrect permissions

2010-03-20 Thread Stefan Fritsch
The patch is a backport from upstream trunk (2.3.x).

The correct fix would be to use apr_file_open() with APR_OS_DEFAULT
permissions instead of apr_file_mktemp() to create the temp file.
Unfortunately, I don't think I will have time to fix it in the next week
or so.

[Bug 524893] Re: versatile: Can't boot initramfses

2010-03-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package qemu-kvm - 0.12.3-0ubuntu17

---
qemu-kvm (0.12.3-0ubuntu17) lucid; urgency=low

  * qemu-debootstrap: test for basename part of $0 to enable build-arm-chroot
compat mode.
  * New patch, arm-higher-initrd-load-addr, set INITRD_LOAD_ADDR to 0x00d0
instead of 0x0080 as to leave enough room for our piggish vmlinuz +
its decompressed counterpart; should fix initramfs and initrd support;

[Bug 480849] Re: Samba daemon crashes when transfering large files to share in encrypted home dir

2010-03-20 Thread Christoph E
So, today I had some time to test with the new Ubuntu Lucid Lynx Beta 1.
Result: The problem is still persistent with the same effect. But today
I also tested the copy process from another Ubuntu 9.10 to the 10.4
system. It behaves slightly different:

1) Copy process starts immediately
2) On the 10.4 samba system, a process called gvfsd-smb rises the CPU to 100%
(on a core 2 duo @ 3,2GHz). smbd stays at 14%
3) The copy process works fine, but after I cancelled it, gvfsd-smb stays at
100%. But instead when copying from a windows machine (s...@100%), I could kill
gvfsd-smb easily.

I just discovered

section entitled, Installation of Fedora Directory Server 1.1.x under
Ubuntu 9.10. The version there seems old though, as the official
version is now at 1.2.6.a2.

[Bug 207791] Re: winbind forgets uid/name gid/name mappings in regulary periods

2010-03-20 Thread Drew Scott Daniels
I would like to know how the issue can be fixed (package upgrade to what
version?).

Torsten Krah indicated this was a problem as of 2010-02-23, there has
been no new release of winbind since 2010-02-02, and that release didn't
mention any issues like this.

In my research, I also found that some idmap backends don't support
certain features. There was an upstream documentation bug discussed
recently.

Thanks,

 Drew Daniels

[Bug 542938] [NEW] no clean url altough mod_rewrite

2010-03-20 Thread Daniel Holm
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apache2

Did a clean install of Ubuntu Lucid Server Beta 1 today. Got all the
latest updates.

As a webserver I use Drupal, and of course Clean URL's. But here is the
thing: Altough that the mod_rewrite is enabled in Apache2, it doesn't
work.

I just migrated all the files from my old server (Ubuntu 9.04), where
clean URL worked. I also tried a fresh Drupal-site - no change.

Seems to me no bug at all...

dpkg forced me to do a
sudo dpkg --configure -a

which made the situation clear to me - my user defined samba config
interfered with the standard one...

Only a feature request remains: update-manager has to bring up the real
dpkg message.

[Bug 543094] [NEW] mount error 13 - permisison denied when mounting samba shares on ubuntu server using cifs

2010-03-20 Thread Jelle De Loecker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

I am not trying to connect to a windows box, I'm running a samba server
on another Ubuntu (9.10) server. This used to work perfectly in my
Ubuntu 9.10 client.

I copied over the exact same fstab lines and my /root/.smbcredentials
file.

fstab example:
//192.168.1.2/audio/home/skerit/Muziek/Audiocifs
credentials=/root/.smbcredentials,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,uid=skerit,gid=skerit
 0 0

Which results in this error:

mount error(13): Permission denied

Browsing to the network share, using nautilus, works without a problem.

[Bug 543100] [NEW] netbsd-5.0.1/i386 guest not booting on lucid

2010-03-20 Thread mf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

qemu-kvm 0.12.3-0ubuntu17 (i386)

On an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5500 @ 1.66GHz
(no VT-x)

I upgraded from Karmic (qemu-kvm 0.11.0-0ubuntu6.3) to Lucid Beta 1
(qemu-kvm 0.12.3-0ubuntu17).

My NetBSD-5.0.1 guests did not get to a running kernel anymore, regardless of
ACPI/SMP selection from the bootloader.

last output on console looks like this:
-
booting hda0:netbsd
9811272+423908+615984 [505888+489522]=0xb4e2fc
-
with qemu taking up 100% CPU.

This appears to be fixed upstream, I did a git clone from
git.qemu.org/qemu.git,
built it at /usr/local/bin/qemu and copied the binary over to /usr/bin/qemu.
With that version, my NetBSD guests are up again.

[Bug 543148] [NEW] Private Archive Permissions Are Incorrect

2010-03-20 Thread Andre Naef
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mailman

This bug report is for:

Description:Ubuntu lucid (development branch)
Release:10.04

mailman:
  Installed: 1:2.1.13-1
  Candidate: 1:2.1.13-1

It would appear that there is a permission problem for the directory
/var/lib/mailman/archives/private:

drwxrws--- 8 root www-data 4096 2010-03-21 02:40 private

By default, this directory is created with group www-data. This prevents
Mailman scripts from accessing the archive as these scripts are run with
set group ID list. As a result, nothing is written into the archive. A
typical error from /var/log/mailman/error looks like this:

[Bug 543148] Re: Private Archive Permissions Are Incorrect

2010-03-20 Thread Andre Naef
To clarify, Mailman scripts refers to the Mailman CGI scripts. One use
of these scripts is to moderate postings which in turn may cause a write
into the archive when a posting is accepted.

[Bug 531823] Re: [lucid] All linux guests oops in kvm_leave_lazy_mmu during boot (9.04, 9.10, 10.04)

2010-03-20 Thread lavinog
I am experiencing some poor performance with beta-1 in qemu-kvm (didn't have
this issue last month.)
Would the removal of the patches (mentioned in comment #14) be the cause of
this?
I am using an AMD host, and just moving the mouse will cause the host cpu to
spike. I tested an image of karmic, and everything works.

[Bug 542435] [NEW] White Icons not clearly visible on low contrast screens

2010-03-20 Thread Denis.K
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

The white icons do not show up well on low contrasts screens. (i.e. Asus Eee
1005ha)
Some of these 'white icons' are, the ubuntu logo, power icon, accessibility
icon, etc.

Icons should be changed to a more visible color, that is more different
than the current light grey background, to create more contrast, and
therefore visible.

For example, at its current color, on a Asus Eee 1005ha, it is about
only 10% visible, maybe even less, depending on screen angle.

Re: [Bug 532633] Re: [light-theme] please revert the order of the window controls back to menu:minimize, maximize, close

2010-03-20 Thread Requiem Masamune

On Sat, 20 Mar 2010 00:55 +, j_baer bae...@gmail.com wrote:
My belief is this decision was not made by the flip of a coin, the toss
of a dart, or the personal preference of any single individual. I
believe the concept was discussed, debated, and evaluated as to adding
value to Ubuntu as it exists today and what it will become tomorrow.

As to the order of the buttons, the same arguments apply.

My suggestion is let’s not be too quick to judge and give it a try. I
see a work-a-around is already in place for those who feel strongly
 the placement is incorrect.

I have to politely take issue with this give it a try attitude.

Firstly I feel underestimated, do you really think I don't know what I
want? that *we, linux users* don't know what I want? Simply choosing
linux already implies having strong opinions about computers.

Secondly, I have business to do, and a life, enough free software is of
alpha and beta quality for me to be enrolled into a usability study to
justify someone's pet windows configuration I never asked for.

Thirdly, this is a LTS, do you want to make an experimental release out
of a LTS? Making it opt-in is the best option.

Fourthly, if the polls reflect the preferences of the users (when in
reality polls are visited by early adopter types) I predict most users
will simply google for ubuntu fix window buttons where they will find
this one liner in the forums

$ gconftool --type string --set /apps/metacity/general/button_layout
menu:minimize,maximize,close

And go about their business as usual.

Certainly this change won't break ubuntu (except for a few hundred kids
who will as a result of this hate ubuntu as soon as their school forces
them to use it) it will only make it slightly more annoying, this will
simply be added to the list of stuff we have to do every time we upgrade
like installing codecs and such.

The tragedy is, the ubuntu packers will go around thinking they made
everybody happy *while* proving everybody wrong! haha! But no, listen to
the polls, the polls are the answer.

Some else said that this is not an issue people over which choose their
distro. It's true, probably, ubuntu won't loose much users from this
change, certainly, it won't gain any. And the people who don't and won't
care will still not care. so what do the people that do care think? Is
their opinion that unimportant?

[Bug 542123] Re: frequent and complete freeze on Karmic

2010-03-20 Thread Jeremy Foshee
[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you

This bug was reported against the linux-meta package when it likely
should have been reported against the linux package instead. We are
automatically transitioning this to the linux kernel package so that the
appropriate teams are notified and made aware of this issue.

If this bug really is a bug in the linux-meta package you can move it
back to linux-meta and tag it kj-linux-meta, or contact us on the

[Bug 541495] Re: ubuntuone-client fails to connect

2010-03-20 Thread duanedesign
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 517505 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/517505

anthrax,
Sorry to hear you are having problems with Ubuntu One. Looking at your logs it
looks like you have a newer version of metadata on your computer. Did you
install the trunk version of Ubuntu One then go back to the stable version in
the repository?

To fix this you need to repopulate your metadata with the version
currently in use by your version of Ubuntu One. If you have anything of
great importance in your Ubuntu One folder you you might want to back it
up before proceeding (never can be too safe)

1. Quit the Ubuntu One client. From the applet select Quit. Then open a
Terminal (Applications Accessories Terminal) and run the following
to quit the syncdaemon.

u1sdtool -q

2. Delete the old metadata. In a Terminal run.

rm -rf ~/.local/share/ubuntuone

3. Start Ubuntu One as you normally would Applications Internet
Ubuntu One

It'll run for a bit as it recreates the metadata. After awhile copy in a
small file to see if it syncs. If this is unsuccessful please come back
here and change the 'Status' of this bug back to 'New' and attach the
following logs to this bug: ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon.log
~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon-exceptions.log

thank you,

[Bug 539541] Re: I see files shared to me in the web, but they are not automatically downloaded

2010-03-20 Thread duanedesign
TheWitchdoktor,
I'm sorry to hear Ubuntu One is not working properly for you. Did the files
ever copy for you?

If you would like to help debug the problem that would be greatly
appreciated. You can do the following in order to provide important
details that will help determine the root cause of this issue.

1) Quit the Ubuntu One client. R-click on the Ubuntu One applet and
select 'Quit'

2) Open Applications-Accessories-Terminal, then run the command:
  mv ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log_old mkdir
~/.cache/ubuntuone/log

3) Run the following in the Terminal to open/create this file:
 gedit ~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf

#Add the following two (2) lines to this file and save:
[__main__]
log_level = DEBUG

4) Open Ubuntu One as you normally would Applications-Internet-Ubuntu
One

5) Let Ubuntu One run for a bit, copy some files into your Ubuntu One
Folder. Then attach the following logs to this bug:
~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon.log ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log
/syncdaemon-exceptions.log

You can attach logs to this bug report by clicking the 'Add Attachment
or patch' button at the bottom of the page. Thank you for filing this
bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better.

thank you,

[Bug 532633] Re: [light-theme] please revert the order of the window controls back to menu:minimize, maximize, close

2010-03-20 Thread Denis.K
I would of expected a user survey to go out, or something along those
lines to get an accurate, and full understanding of what USERS would
feel best with. After all, ubuntu is an OS that is built around open and
free ideals. Not letting everyone, or at least OPENLY DISCUSS CHANGE, is
a breach of its own beliefs and mission

Seeing as that changing the side of the window buttons is a pretty big
UI change, many users feel that they aren't getting a say in the changes
that they dislike, and is why there are a lot of negative thoughts, with
negative attitudes. But, however, if it is put into perspective, it is
reasonable to be acting in such a way.

For years, ubuntu has had its window buttons on the same side, in the
same order. With the new changes the buttons are now on the left, but
not only that, they are in a different order. I strongly believe that
this completely ruins the consistency factor of ubuntu. And on the other
side, seeing as this is it's 10th release, and a LTS, it is also
reasonable that there is going to be some change.

However, the main problem is that every, every, every popular OS has the
close button in a corner, and never towards the center...this is
probably the greatest concern of all the people who are against the
change, and NOT the side of the buttons.

Whats done is done, unless the UI Freeze is lenient. But for NEXT TIME,
Canonical should put extreme care in making sure users are satisfied.
(Surveys, surveys, surveys, heck, even Google is doing it!)

[Bug 539519] Re: ubuntuone applet crashes when clicking on it, syncdaemon not started

2010-03-20 Thread duanedesign
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 517505 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/517505

ONispel,
Sorry to hear you are having problems with Ubuntu One.

[Bug 537801] Re: Touchscreen doesn't work after karmic-lucid upgrade

2010-03-20 Thread Mario Limonciello
Now that the freeze has been lifted I upgraded to the new -evdev.
Things don't work, but if I move 69-xserver-xorg-input-wacom.rules out
of the way and reboot, they work fine with -evdev. So I'd say those
rules need to be modified to not be picking up this panel still.

[Bug 345754] Re: gvfsd-trash crashed with SIGSEGV in g_simple_async_result_complete()

2010-03-20 Thread Wes M
I'm not sure if I'm having the same problem, but Nautilus crashes
constantly when emptying the trash on Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit. There is no
crash report but I do see something like this in my system log
immediately after:

kernel: [271660.316416] gvfsd-trash[26882]: segfault at 28 ip 00411e14
sp 7fffdc55c5c0 error 4 in gvfsd-trash[40+25000]

Oddly enough, once it happens the first time it doesn't happen again
until after I've logged out and then logged back in.

[Bug 542446] [NEW] does not terminate at computer shutdown

2010-03-20 Thread Tom Pino
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ureadahead

I have no idea what this is about. I suspect if I was smart and purged
plymouth this would not be a problem.

Apport generated this and I am sending it as I am damned tired of
plymouth and its infinite number of stupid problems with everything that
has to do with booting.

I purged it from one of my several installs. Yes I get a mountall
message saying it can't connect. GREAT.

Boots in about 1/3 the time.

This install I leave alone because it has always booted in spite of
plymouth. I think there is something wrong with it.

[Bug 532633] Re: [light-theme] please revert the order of the window controls back to menu:minimize, maximize, close

2010-03-20 Thread Tylerratboy
This has probably been mentioned many times before, however. The way I
look at it, I don't mind them on the left side. What I have a problem
with, is that they just threw the buttons on the left side, and left it
in the same order as they were on the right, meaning the close button is
on the inside, and the minimize button is on the corner, which makes
things really really awkward. I've used them on the left many times
before, however, when I always put them on the left I always put the
close button in the corner, and the minimize button in the inside.

So, my problem isn't the fact that they did it. My problem is the fact
they just swapped the three buttons and the Menu button/icon, and didn't
try to re-arrange it in a way that would put the close button on a
corner.

Looks like this is the same issue that screws up Apple's built-in VNC

can connect, the mouse pointer moves, but screen doesn't get updated.
Super frustrating.
