The changelog looks very reasonable mostly. The only thing that made me raise eyebrows is * Removed automatic file descriptor unlocking happening on shutdown and/or stream close (on all OSes). (Tony, Ilia) This sounds like a behaviour change which is not obviously a bug fix, but the description is not verbose enough to say what it really does. Would you mind digging up some bug references, detailled changelogs, etc. about this? E. g. the usual behaviour of flock() is that locks are dropped on program shutdown (I don't even think that it's possible to disable that behaviour, and it really shouldn't be). Now, this is probably not directly related to flock(), but it'd still be interesting to see what it does. Carlos, Thank you for your response. I didn't remove samba-common along with samba but i just got this resolved by copying the missing smb.conf file from a different ubuntu machine I have. The status now is that domain resolving is very slow after installing samba, for example when I type www.ubuntu.com, my computer takes forever to resolve. i am pretty sure that it is due to misconfiguration because I have boost cable + 64 bit machine with 6 Gs of memory + quad core proc but I dunno how to go about resolving it. It is indeed a pain. I'd like to see this get fixed eventually. Even the upstream patch that's around somewhere that allows you to simply manually specifiy a bridge would be pretty good. Yes, you shouldn't delete files in /etc manually. The system remembers you want them deleted and won't reinstall them. If you want to get rid of configuration files when uninstalling a package, use apt-get purge samba samba-common. The plan here is to: a.) leave m1.small disk size at 2G. modify lucid filesystem image to be 1.4G in size. This will allow lucid images to fit into the 2G image and include the 512M of swap that is added to the image. The size units in Eucalyptus are in 1G units, keeping this at 2G rather than setting it at 3G will make installs faster. b.) set the m1.small memory size to 192M filesystem is easily resized up with uec-resize-image. Note, 192M was chosen, as it is believed we can boot without any OOM. if that assertion is not true, then we'd bump it up. It tried to reconfigure when I updated after install. I was just going to suggest that some type of trigger prevent it from updating until MySQL is restarted. I have managed to get qemu-system-ppc running, asside from the binary blob issue, but having troubles getting a version of Ubuntu to actually post properly. I can get qemu to post and load into yaboot.
