[Bug 641001] Re: cacrl should be use instead of hostcrl when generating apache2 passenger configuration

2010-09-22 Thread Martin Pitt
Mathias, can you please check this source package very carefully? It
replaces debian/patches/debian-changes-2.6.1-0ubuntu1 withdebian/patches
/debian-changes-2.6.1-0ubuntu2, and this patch looks like it would be
the delta betwen 2.6.1rc4 and 2.6.1 final. This looks strange, as if
something went wrong at uupdate time. The debian-changes* patches are
actually the same, so I'll approve the new upload for this bug fix, but
this might still be unintended here.

[Bug 644538] Re: package postfix 2.7.0-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 75

2010-09-22 Thread Thierry Carrez
Error is:
newaliases: fatal: /etc/mailname/: cannot open file: No such file or directory

You replaced /etc/aliases by the package maintainer version, overriding
local changes. You might want to edit that file again to reflect your
configuration.

That said, if, like mentioned in bug 644534, there was a security
breach, I'd advise to completely reinstall the system.

it's not practical, at least not today when I'm so tired! *yawn*. The
system claims to be attaching extra info automatically though so
hopefully that will contain whatever you may need. Thanks. Roger.

[Bug 644853] Re: apache2.2-common 2.2.14-5ubuntu8.2 failed to install/upgrade: Module reqtimeout does not exist!

2010-09-22 Thread Thierry Carrez
Looks like you manually removed (or moved) the /etc/apache2/mods-
available/reqtimeout.load file. This is supposed to be handled through
a2enmod. Recreating that file (or purging and reinstalling apache2)
should work around this error.

We should guard for that case by adding a || true and/or a slightly more
precise versioning in apache2.2-common.postinst.

[Bug 350936] Re: Should shut down domains on system shutdown

2010-09-22 Thread Valentijn Sessink
While there's many solutions now to shutdown VM's, here's my 2 cents. Instead
of a libvirt-bin.conf script, I made a separate script
(/usr/local/sbin/shutdown-libvirt-hosts.sh). This script waits 120 seconds for
all VM's to shut down. Then I'm running this script from two places; in
libvirt-bin.conf:
pre-stop script
/usr/local/sbin/shutdown-libvirt-hosts.sh
end script

And also (as a link) from /etc/rc0.d/K10shutdown-libvirt-hosts (and from
rc6.d alike)

This way, the sendsigs script will only run if all VMs have
terminated.?field.comment=While there's many solutions now to shutdown VM's,

With a K10shutdown-libvirt-hosts script in place, the sendsigs script
will only run after this script has ended, which is when all VMs have
terminated.

A few remarks:
- shutting down the VM's twice is not a problem; to the VM, it just looks like
pressing the power button twice.
- to gracefully shut down, the VM's need the acpid package installed.
- if the shutdown script searches for the word running (like mine does, but
John Morrissey's script is affected, too), it must set LANG=C at the top,
otherwise virsh will run in the local language.

2010-09-22 Thread Imre Gergely
If you look in DpkgTerminalLog.txt there are a lot of other things gone
wrong as far as I can tell, a lot of other packages gave errors.

Could you try editing /var/lib/dpkg/info/clamav-base.postinst file,
adding the following line before the set -e line:

set -x

then runnning apt-get -f install clamav-base again ? It should output
a lot of other stuff while running, maybe that way we can identify the
problem, but I don't think it's clamav's fault. Please attach
/var/log/apt/term.log to this bugreport.

Thanks.

[Bug 645061] Re: apparmor blocks freshclam process info after latest update

2010-09-22 Thread Imre Gergely
Confirmed on Lucid with (not yet) backported clamav 0.96.3 from clamav-
ppa.

Seems like this is some new feature in 0.96.3 where freshclam (and
indeed clamav-daemon too) does some checking in /proc/self and also
/proc/filesystems. Attached some syslog entries which appear exactly
after freshclam is done downloading .cvd files (virus definition
databases).

The warnings seem to go away when adding the following line to
/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.freshclam:

  /proc/** r,

This doesn't seem to be a bug in clamav but a too restrictive apparmor
profile.

[Bug 645288] [NEW] dovecot fails to find mailbox of new users

2010-09-22 Thread yaztromo
Public bug reported:

Fully updated Lucid as of Sept 22 2010

dovecot-common:
  Installed: 1:1.2.9-1ubuntu6.1

New users mailboxes aren't autodetected properly and dovecot closes
connection to clients, older users aren't affected.

Sep 22 15:28:51 Shula dovecot: pop3-login: Login: user=xx, method=PLAIN,
rip=192.168.0.1, lip=192.168.0.249, TLS
Sep 22 15:28:51 Shula dovecot: POP3(xx): mail_location not set and
autodetection failed: Mail storage autodetection failed with

Setting mail_location in dovecot.conf is a temporary fix for now.

Supposedly this bug was fixed in an earlier updatte, but is still
present now.

[Bug 645061] Re: apparmor blocks freshclam process info after latest update

2010-09-22 Thread Scott Kitterman
According to upstream, this is for selinux and pax detection. This
permission problem doesn't affect anything, except for apparmor logs
since we have neither and they wouldn't co-exist with apparmor if a user
had switched to them.

The detection process opens /proc/pid/status and if it can't be opened,
it assumes no pax. Then it opens /proc/filesystems and if it can't open
it then it tries /proc/selinux/enforce and if that can't be opened
either it assumes no selinux.

I suspect it's probably better to allow these checks because other
people will see this in their logs and file bugs. Additionally, I don't
like the idea of leaving a profile in place that interferes with
upstream functionality even though it happens to produce the same result
at the moment.

[Bug 621509] Re: mysqld randomly causes system to not respond to commands

2010-09-22 Thread Clint Byrum
Luke, thanks for keeping us up to date!

While your configuration is a little bit weird, it still sounds like
there may be a legitimate bug in mysql, as it should not be able to
cause such a huge problem for the system.

That said, I would suspect that cacti needs to *not* run two of its
collectors at a time, and you may be running into some kind of deadlock
where one cacti thread is waiting for a lock that the other one has
while waiting for a lock that another has that is waiting for the first.

Beacause of the introduction of spine, and the lack of ability to
reproduce it reliably, I'm going to go ahead and close this as Invalid.
Please do open a new bug if you continue to have issues on 10.04, and
good luck with your migration!

Added these two lines to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.freshclam and
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.clamd , and after reloading apparmor and
restarting clamav-freshclam and clamav-daemon the log entries no longer

[Bug 643477] Re: package nmap 5.00-3 failed to install/upgrade: Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should reinstall it before attempting a removal.

2010-09-22 Thread Thomas
Thanks for the quick reply,

I found out that it was some kind of hard drive issue: while installing
nmap there was a rsync job copying over 200 GB from one drive to
another. It somehow froze the apt-get install nmap command at the
point of unpacking. Strange this is that I could use the computer for
everything else without slowdowns of any sorts, but trying to install
new software did not work.

After the rsync job finished, i reinstalled nmap and everything went
fine.

[Bug 644632] Re: nssldap-update-ignoreusers needs to be configurable to ignore users

2010-09-22 Thread Joshua Kugler
OK, so rolling around some ideas on how to handle this. One simple way,
one somewhat complex, but kind of neat, way.

Method 1:
Use a config file for nssldap-update-ignoreusers. Probably
/etc/default/nssldap-update-ignoreusers. Have a single line something like:

nss_initgroups_okusers=user1,user2,user3,etc.

If a user was in that list, nssldap-update-ignoreusers would not include
the user in the nss_initgroups_ignoreuses line when it updates the
ldap.conf file.

Method 2:
Create a new system-level group named something like nss_okusers. Then, if a
user was a member of that group, nssldap-update-ignoreusers would not include
the user in the nss_initgroups_ignoreuses line when it updates the ldap.conf
file. But that's abusing groups for system configuration, which I'm not sure
is the best idea.

Comments? Questions?

We're talking about five lines at most of shell code. I believe it would
be a worthwhile addition to nssldap-update-ignoreusers.

I might just work it up and attach a patch. :)

Hey Guys,

Thanks a lot deleting the ftp* user resolved this issue. The users are added
as a part of pureadmin gui installation, I guess.

I am not sure whether this thread will help in address another issue I have
related to DVD burn on Lucid. Is there a common tool that can grab all the
relevant info for you. Besides strace/message did not give much info about
this issue as the linux freezes completely and hard reboot is the only
solution.

[Bug 645532] [NEW] package apache2.2-common 2.2.14-5ubuntu8.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-09-22 Thread SuperCyborg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apache2

I got here after an automated message report by Ubuntu.

In this case, the update just reported failing and the bug reporting
process took me here. Synaptic reports apache2.2-common
2.2.14-5ubuntu8.2 as latest AND installed, so it seems like it didn't
fail completely... hopefully it didn't leave apache in an unstable
state since that post install script failed.

Apache seems to be working fine, though... and... important... this
is not a production system, just my personal laptop I use for
development.

I would not have reported this if it was not for a desire to contribute
with the info, so I hope it is useful. I don't think I really need a
resolution myself, but the community might.

You add a line in /etc/ldap.conf of the form:

[Bug 628055] Re: Instances don't start correctly: Security Labeling error running aa_change_profile()

2010-09-22 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Turns out this was a missing #include in virt-aa-helper.c. In previous
releases we did not need '#include sys/stat.h', but in libvirt 0.8.3
(presumably because of its embedded gnulib, which has functions for
stat()) and the toolchain in maverick, we do.

Specifically, virt-aa-helper.c has in its buildlog:
security/virt-aa-helper.c: In function 'valid_path':
security/virt-aa-helper.c:541: warning: implicit declaration of function 'stat'
[-Wimplicit-function-declaration]
security/virt-aa-helper.c:541: warning: nested extern declaration of 'stat'
[-Wnested-externs]

Adding '#include sys/stat.h' to virt-aa-helper.c fixes both the
warning and the problem. I will be uploading a new libvirt with this fix
shortly.

[Bug 645009] Re: spamd segfaults a message

2010-09-22 Thread Marcin Owsiany
I had a look at the history of segfaults in my syslog and found the
following things:

There were the following two kernel messages, with slightly different
frequencies:
29 times: segfault at 108 ip 7f6269838a81 sp 7fffb3255900 error
4 in libperl.so.5.10.1[7f6269795000+162000]
40 times: segfault at 38e8fd3a1 ip 7f6269838a86 sp 7fffb3255900 error 4
in libperl.so.5.10.1[7f6269795000+162000]

The segfaults started at Sep 18 21:41:38
At first segfaults were sparse and spamd eventally successfully classified as
ham on a retry.
Today they got more frequent up to a point where I had to stop using
spamassassin.

[Bug 645532] Re: package apache2.2-common 2.2.14-5ubuntu8.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-09-22 Thread Serge Hallyn
Hi,

I could be wrong, but it looks like apache-common refused to complete
configuration
due to some complaints. Please see DpkgTerminalLog.txt attached and address
those
issues, and see if you can then complete the upgrade. In particular, there are
critical configuration files like /etc/default/ufw which are world writeable,
and
apache directories like /www/af/ which do not exist.

[Bug 423252] Re: NSS using LDAP+SSL breaks setuid applications like su and sudo

2010-09-22 Thread greenmoss
My bug 509734 was marked as a duplicate of this one. This was a special
case using the atd job scheduler. At jobs launched by ldap users worked,
but at jobs launched by root did *not* work. atd was doing a group
lookup, and nss was dropping privileges, thus breaking root-launched at
jobs. To work around this, I added the following line to my
/etc/ldap.conf:

nss_initgroups_ignoreusers users

where users is the list of local non-ldap users, particularly root!
There is a script that is part of nss-ldap that does this for you:

/usr/sbin/nssldap-update-ignoreusers

Atd is finally working for me now.

[Bug 642866] Re: openssh client logs into server without specifying the correct key file.

2010-09-22 Thread Canoblus
same with ssh -vvv -i linux_test_server -l username 192.168.1.222
I can log in without any problems, but this is expected because there I
specified the key file. The weird behavior shows up, if I do not specify any
key file and can still log into the server.

myself is the standard ubuntu account name. I did not sudo into it.

Could this be a misconfiguration of the remote server?

[Bug 643100] Re: Recent update broke dhcp

2010-09-22 Thread C de-Avillez
Yes, I think your network-manager is a left-over from your Karmic days -- you
installed it from an external repository (probably a PPA), but...
* it has a greater version than current Lucid
* it is most probably not compatible with Lucid

This goes with the territory, when using non-official repositories.

One final way to be sure is to run 'apt-cache' against it:

apt-cache policy network-manager

And you should see no repositories set for it.

The best you can do is downgrade it to current lucid. It should be easy,
but I have no idea of what else you have still from Karmic.

3)
I expect the computer to find the printer on the network so I can install the
printer and use it.

4)
I am unable to find the printer in 10.10.

---

I upgraded to 10.10 and printing no longer works for me. Ive tried
deleting my printer and re-adding it to no avail. Any help would be
appreciated! All the other 10.04 systems connected to the network print
fine Just not mine.

Dont know if this will help, but I ran the debugging feature in the
printing section...

http://paste.ubuntu.com/498731/

When looking at the properties of my printer, I see this error:

Unable to connect to CIFS host, will retry in 60 seconds...

So to clarify... all the networked computers are running Ubuntu and are
hardwired to the main computer which is XP and has the printer. All
printing works fine with the 10.04 computers. My computer was upgraded
to 10.10 and now printing does not work. I am also unable to find the
network or the printer now as well.

The connection info is (or was):

smb://MSHOME/NET/Printer

Which pulls up nothing. Ive even tried installing the HP Toolbox to see
if it would find the printer and no luck.

Ive also tried finding the printer in http://localhost:631/ with no luck
either.

Maverick doesnt seem to be able to see the network at all now.

You replaced /etc/aliases by the package maintainer version, overriding

That said, if, like mentioned in bug 644534, there was a security
breach, I'd advise to completely reinstall the system.
