I installed the latest kernel release (2.6.32...) of Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx onto Ubutun 10.10 Maverick Meerkat. So, I downgraded the kernel version to that I don't have the problem before upgrade. Now I don't have freeze issue right now. I had headphone sound problem with that old kernel but it works normally with ubuntu 10.10. I think new version of userspace alsa staff solved that headphone jack issue. I also sometimes had not booting problem after grub with that old kernel. It still continues to exists with ubuntu 10.10. But after a boot cycle it usually boots normally. It is acceptable for me instead of freezing while doing critical job. Like Berend, I have hit this problem setting up my cp210x based-LCD display with the SureElec driver in lcdproc. Exact same problem that is described for this bug: a call to open in the LCD driver that never returns. The workaround mentioned doesn't work for me. Have you tried reconfiguring your Xorg.conf? On my system, sometimes the touchscreen does not react after booting, a reboot usually solves it. Is the mouse up problem solved on your system? I still have the same problem as before, although the test driver #3 posted here makes the actual touch recognition work (tested with mtview). By the way, I just tried ginn and it basically works. However, it works quite unreliable, especially for vertical scrolls. Software center also crashed on me right after i had finished installing Mozilla Thunderbird. I'm running the live DVD for Ubuntu 10.10. This was the first and only thing i had done once i had launched the DVD and tried Ubuntu. Turns out the problem is already known and fixed at upstream [1]. I've successfully built a version of brasero based on the current ubuntu sources (apt-get source brasero).
