[Bug 684127] Re: virsh adds automatically type='raw' to a disk session

2011-01-20 Thread James Page
Thanks for the information you provided in you last update.

The behavior you describe is the default behavior for libvirt/qemu on
Maverick. Disk probing is disabled by default so libvirt will not
attempt to determine what format the underlying disk is actually in and
defaults to raw (I've had this issue myself). This can be re-enabled
(see allow_disk_format_probing in /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf) but disk
probing is considered a potential security vulnerability so I would not
recommend this course of action.

Its a little unclear from the original bug report as to why you cannot
specify the driver for the disk in the definition for the virtual
machine using the following line:

driver name='qemu' type='raw'/

Are you using opennebula to generate the virtual machine definitions?
In which case we may need to re-assign this bug to that package.

Thanks again for helping to make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 700812] Re: dpkg-reconfigure slapd doesn't ask for domain or admin pasword

2011-01-20 Thread James Page
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I would recommend that you follow the OpenLDAP section of the Official
10.04 Ubuntu Server Guide to correctly setup and configure a working
OpenLDAP installation on Ubuntu Server 10.04:

https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/serverguide/C/openldap-server.html

This documentation should align to the version of OpenLDAP that you are
trying to install and configure.

Please update this bug if this is not the case.

Thanks.

[Bug 704766] Re: unable to install nagios3

2011-01-20 Thread James Page
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I've tried to reproduce this on a clean Maverick Server 10.10
installation; however nagios3 installs OK with no errors.

The service check commands that are causing the errors during the
installation are provided by the nagios-plugins-basic package which
would appear to have been installed prior to installing nagios3.

Please could you try purging this package as it would appear that the
files in /etc/nagios-plugins/config have either been changed or are
missing:

sudo apt-get purge nagios-plugins-basic

You can then attempt to complete the nagios3 install by running the
following command:

sudo apt-get install nagios3

This should also re-install the plugins package.

Please update this bug if this resolves your issue.

Thanks.

[Bug 700492] Re: ntp complains about ipv6 errors every 5 minutes

2011-01-20 Thread James Page
Confirmed using the following setup:

qemu/libvirt vm running Maverick 10.10 i386 install; added two
additional network adapters and then bonded eth1 and eth2 using a fairly
standard bonding configuration (ifenslave as described above). ipv4
addressing works fine - however get the same error message as the
original reporter when ntp tries to bond to the ipv6 link address on
bond0:

Also noticed that even without bonding I get the same message every 5
minutes from ntp (but on the eth0 interface).

This could be related to bug 697592.

[Bug 697592] Re: unable to create socket on eth0 (210) for ::ffff:192.168.1.4#123

2011-01-20 Thread James Page
I have been able to confirm this bug using the information supplied by
the Thomas in the last update.

Although ntp generates error messages every 5 minutes, it does respond
to queries on the ipv6 address.

This may be related to bug 700492 (although the error message is
slightly different they both relate to ipv6 network handling in ntp).

[Bug 705441] [NEW] /etc/cobbler/cobblerd executable in cobbler-common

2011-01-20 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Public bug reported:

In performing a binary NEW, I noticed the following:

  -rwxr-xr-x root/root 3411 2011-01-19 15:40 ./etc/cobbler/cobblerd

Examining it, this is a sysv initscript. Either this should be outside
of /etc or not shipped at all (since we are using upstart). If this
package is ultimately destined for Debian, I suggest updating
debian/rules to do a build-time check to install the sysv init script on
Debian and the upstart job on Ubuntu.

[Bug 704377] Re: nagios3 requires smbclient, tries to uninstall samba4-clients

2011-01-20 Thread James Page
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

In the Lucid release, nagios3 and smbclient are both located in the main
section of the archive; this part of the archive is officially supported
by Canonical and as such no dependencies can be made between packages in
main and packages in universe (supported by the wider Ubuntu community).
Samba 4 is still an alpha release (and hence located in universe) and
won't at this point in time even be considered for inclusion in the main
archive even in the development release.

Although the change you suggest would resolve your issue, it will break
the main - universe rules and would not be accepted into the nagios3
package.

Thanks again for taking the time to report this bug.

2011-01-20 Thread James Page
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:

1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

[Bug 699855] Re: autofs.schema in wrong location

Confirmed on maverick - this will impact both maverick and natty.

It does not impact core functionality as schemas still have to be loaded

[Bug 596993] Re: hostname handling needs improvement for elastic-ip and ebs start-stop

2011-01-20 Thread Gerry Reno
Scott,
I just tested a recent Maverick AMI and it does indeed correctly set the
hostname to the newly assigned internal domain name after a stop/start
sequence. So no need to open any other bugs on that score.
+ uname -n
ip-10-117-39-235
+ hostname -s
ip-10-117-39-235
+ hostname -d
ec2.internal
+ hostname -f
ip-10-117-39-235.ec2.internal
+ hostname
ip-10-117-39-235
+ echo ip-10-117-39-235
ip-10-117-39-235
+ cat /etc/hostname
ip-10-117-39-235
+ /sbin/sysctl -n kernel.hostname
ip-10-117-39-235

Now the question is how early in the boot process does cloud-init run?

With the changes in this bug, how can we make another boot process wait
until cloud-init has completed setting up the hostname?

2011-01-20 Thread Serge Hallyn
Could you please append to this bug a few more details, in particular:

1. contents of /proc/cpuinfo
2. the result of 'ps -auxw | grep kvm' while one of the machines is hung, so
that I can see exactly what options are being used
3. More details on the guest configuration. Does the install cd run through
fine, and then refuse to boot after successful install, or can you not even
boot a maverick cd?

2011-01-20 Thread Gerry Reno
cloud-init does a lot of things. I guess what I'm looking for is
whether cloud-init could be made to emit events as it works such that
other upstart jobs can listen for those events and then use them to
trigger their startup as opposed to waiting for the entire cloud-init
process to complete.

eg:
cloud-init: initctl emit hostname

myjob: start on hostname

[Bug 672177] Re: libc6 upgrade causes umount to fail on shutdown because init cannot be restarted

2011-01-20 Thread Clint Byrum
Added sysvinit, as umountroot needs to wait for the upstart re-exec to
actually happen before moving forward (can do this in telinit as well,
but given the design to use SIGTERM and have no way to signal back to
telinit that the re-exec is done, its much simpler to have umountroot
just watch for a new version of init based on proc.

[Bug 705691] [NEW] cobbler-web should include a working configuration and a README file detailing the steps necessary

2011-01-20 Thread Clint Byrum
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cobbler

This binary package is just missing a few tweaks in config to make it
useful as soon as it is installed.

1) /etc/cobbler/cobbler_web.conf should be modified a bit for the Ubuntu/Debian
apache layout
2) cobbler-web should include a symlink from
/etc/apache2/conf.d/cobbler_web.conf to the above mentioned .conf
3) An alias should be added for cobblerweb_ui_content
4) A README.Debian file should include instructions to modify
/etc/cobbler/modules.conf to enable an auth module other than 'denyall'. --
might be good to include a debconf note.
5) The VirtualHost *:80 should be removed so it works w/ SSL out of the box

Rather than report lots of little bugs I figure this is all related to
the usability of the cobbler-web package.

[Bug 529714] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in _nss_wins_gethostbyname_r()

2011-01-20 Thread Mike Ferreira
My bug (#7027730) has been ID'ed as a diplicate of this bug... even
though it effects a lot more on mine than just what I see in this bug-
Ubuntu One Music Store puggin cannot be loaded at all or Rhythembox will
not start; Ubuntu's Last.fm, Jamendo and Magnatude pluggins crash
Rhythembox if I try to play anything from them; No playback of any Audio
CD and ripping Audio CD's... Yes that's right, if I insert an Audio CD
into my CD/DVD drive Rhtyboxbox Crashes and cannot startup until the CD
is taken out of the drive.

MY sys is 10.10 and as a test they had me load Ubuntu's newest release
of Rhytmbox (yet even though it was an Ubuntu build, it is not yet
supported by them formally) and that didn't change any of it at all.

As a work-around in comment #26, that person said that it will stop if
you remove the Ubuntu One Music Store pluggin... not wholly true, at
least not for mine. Mine will not even start up with that pluggin
installed, but my other problems still are present when that pluggin is
uninstalled. My other problems seem to be additional to these bugs- but
do also disappear if I remove wins from the hosts line of
/etc/nsswitche.conf... so it seems they are related to a problem in
Samba. One other problem was that apport wasn't catching any of my
crashes, so I had to do manual traces.

If anyone taking care of this bug needs traces, see the files attached
to bug #7020030. They seem to be related and may help.

ppa/mainline/v2.6.37-natty/ but my DELL E6510 laptop's display is
erroneously detected as a Epson Seiko Corporation 15@1600x900, so I had
to revert back to the official maverick kernel.

Adding acpi=off to the kernel options was to no avail...

[Bug 701610] Re: Pulseaudio is not running and sound cannot not be started

2011-01-20 Thread Martin Wildam
I have set the log-level to 4 in the file in /etc and in the ps output there is
no pulse.
It is pretty every time, when I do a cold start until login screen and then
wait (e.g. until screen saver comes up), sound is then absent after login
(login sound already not to hear).

The attached syslog if from such a case (log-level already set in /etc).

[Bug 579071] Re: savage_drv fails drawpix glDrawPixels demo/test/benchmark

2011-01-20 Thread Tormod Volden
Well, since I uploaded the lucid packages to my PPA (I added maverick
also), you could just have installed those instead of the gallium and
libdrm packages from the radeon PPA.

However I have seen that this fix is not enough, after sleep/resume the
back buffer is wrong again. You can switch between front and back buffer
with the 'f' key in drawpix. When everything works, they should give the
same result, just that drawing to the front buffer may give you some
flicker if you for instance keep the picture moving by holding the up or
down button.

You mentioned that it worked fine in 8.04, I will try that out also.

Re: [Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share

2011-01-20 Thread Martin Wildam
Hi folks,

While I am pretty satisfied now with Ubuntu 10.04.1 with all updates
applied, the 10.10 is far from being perfect. I can directly compare
because I have 2 times exactly same hardware - one with 10.04.1 and
one with 10.10.

With the 10.10 I have problems with network (WLAN) and sound as well -
just from the drivers perspective. Regarding applications I also have
issues.

So when we want Ubuntu have real success, the quality must fit. Maybe
I am one of the few who thinks that the unity is a good idea, but the
quality of the core OS and it's applications is more important! Please
keep that in mind.

[Bug 705303] [NEW] After upgrade, transmission web interface does not work

2011-01-20 Thread Alejandro Perez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: transmission

Using Ubuntu Maverick (10.10), after upgrading from transmission-common
(2.04-0ubuntu2) to 2.05-0ubuntu0.1
and from transmission-gtk (2.04-0ubuntu2) to 2.05-0ubuntu0.1 (upgrades from
maverick-proposed), web interface stop working properly. It appears in the web
browser, but does not show any torrent at all, and does not respond to clicks
on buttons.

I've tested it on two different systems, with the same result.

Reverting to plain maverick's version works, but I think it should be
fixed anyway.

Alejandro

[Bug 705204] Re: [NATTY] Dailybuild 19/11 fails to install grub on UEFI based Intel weybridge SDP

2011-01-20 Thread Colin Watson
Moving to grub-installer. You're not using ubiquity, and in any case
even if you were bugs in ubiquity should be filed against the Ubuntu
package rather than against the upstream project.

** Changed in: ubiquity
   Status: New = Invalid

** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Incomplete
