[Bug 712878] Re: KVM guest hangs on 'booting from hard disk' 10.10 for guest and host.

2011-02-06 Thread Brian Knoll
Okay, thank you for the information. Earlier I had wondered if maybe
you had shortened the cpuinfo you posted, just to keep things more
compact in your bug report (which is why I asked, because the cpuinfo
obviously shows single-cpu), but since that isn't the case and they
really are single-CPU VMs I don't think this is the same bug as I have.
Thanks again for the information!

I have been able to work around the issue by provisioning guests with the
virtual flavor, rather than with the server flavor.

[Bug 714335] [NEW] KVM SMP Linux Guests Hang

2011-02-06 Thread Brian Knoll
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

SMP Linux guests are hanging under KVM. This does not happen always,
but at least 50% of the time or so.

If I start the guests with -smp 1 or just completely omit the -smp
parameter this doesn't happen.

I can also say that it doesn't seem to happen on a Nehalem-based 8-core
Xeon-based machine I've tried it on, but it does happen on both an AMD
Phenom II 965 machine (the one this bug report is from) as well as an
AMD Phenom II 1090T-based machine.

I am starting the VMs from the command line, manually running qemu-kvm
with a command like the following:

qemu-system-x86_64 -m 1024 -smp 1 -cpu host -drive
file=/var/local/kvm/machine.qcow2,if=virtio,cache=off,boot=on -net
nic,model=virtio,macaddr=77:88:99:12:34:56 -net tap -nographic

[Bug 377175] Re: Volume Up button locks screen

2011-02-06 Thread frazzmatazz
Same problem here. Using a Macally Icekey keyboard

The Volume up key on this keyboard produces keycode 160 (keysym
0x1008ff2d, XF86ScreenSaver) using xev. And it seems this
XF86ScreenSaver is hard coded somewhere in X or gnome so you can't
reallocate it using the usual gnome keyboard shortcuts program.

In my case though I've disabled gnome-screensaver, to use xscreensaver.
So this key does nothing. And I also can't reallocate it to something
else useful, like putting the volume up!

Yes.
I have checked and this issue still exists.
the apport-collect won't do any good since this is missing header issue on
the 2.6.38 kernel.

 Hi Amitai,

 Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development
 release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from
 http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, please
 run the following command from a Terminal
 (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and
 attach updated debug information to this report.

 apport-collect -p linux 709810

 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be
 great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
  Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .  Once you've
 tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag.
  This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag

[Bug 711174] Re: the application place is often displayed empty

I also confirm that : fresh install of Natty alpha2 64 bits.

After startup, first click on Applications icon on Unity dock opens the
window with application list, but we can not scroll down to the bottom.
If I click on an application icon, it opens well the related program.
(see first printscreen).

Often also click on Applications makes Unity crashing (top panel and
left dock disappear, keyboard becomes inactive).

Second click on Applications always opens an empty window (see second

Then if I enter a letter on the search bar, applications containing this
letter appear, if I erase this letter I get the normal window back with
all icons listed and this time the scroll bar works.

[Bug 711035] Re: Splash screens for applications inconsistent with Ubuntu Desktop

2011-02-06 Thread phyzik
On my laptop (not a state-of the-art technology) it takes exactly 5
seconds to cold boot LibreOffice Writer for the first time (loading it
after that takes only 1 second). On the other hand, it's not uncommon
for Mozilla Firefox to take more than that to load. So should we add a
splash screen to Firefox, too? I know something is going on because my
cursor icon has changed to the loading one, I don't need a splash, too
(which is always on top, not themed according to the rest of Ubuntu.

Evince sometimes takes 10-15 seconds to load a document. It shows a
little loading notification in the corner; Firefox has its own
loading icons.

So I'm proposing several other solutions (if just removing the splash is
unacceptable):

1) open blank LibreOffice window immediately, and show some loading
notification inside
2) show a NotifyOSD notification Loading LibreOffice Writer/Calc/Draw instead
of the splash screen
3) automatically enable the Quickstarter on startup, preferably without the
systray icon (and then remove the splash)
4) add a don't use splash screen option in LibreOffice preferences
5) tell me how to remove it on my own so I can post it to ubuntuforums.org,
omgubuntu.co.uk etc., so that everyone else can remove it, too

[Bug 681348] Re: Add show me the desktop keyboard shortcut

2011-02-06 Thread Valeryan_24
I agree with the need of a Show desktop / Minimize all button : icon.

I know there has been discussions on change or not desktop behavior, ie
keeping it like now as a folder, or just allow background + widgets
showing.

Personally, I use very often desktop as a folder to save the files I
need only temporary or that I use just right now (before saving them in
another folder, like my desktop in rela life, where documents and papers
I need are there). Desktop is my default download folder of Firefox, I
copy files from USB devices here etc...

So I miss a lot the Show desktop panel button which allowed me to get
desktop in one click.

Perhaps it's possible to have as option a dock icon with same behavior
(Minimize all windows / show desktop).

[Bug 710809] Re: not mounted partitions appear with questionmark icon

Same thing on Fresh Natty alpha2 64 bits : 2 of my 3 internal HDD drives
(the 2 ones where Ubuntu OS is not installed and have only one full
partition) appear in left dock with gray ? icon.

I do not need these icons, as I have the Place menu to put my favorite
folders, it takes part of the dock where I prefer put applications
icons.

Is there a way to remove them from dock, I didn't find how for the
moment (this is not a bug, more a wishlist feature) ?

assign a function key.

It looks like the Help - Contents menu entries is always displayed as
having F1 as the key shortcut even though I have disabled it Trying
to press Backspace over Help-Contents does not remove F1 from the UI.
(shortcut is in fact disabled).

Also when removing the appmenu applet and adding it again it seems that
the shortcut are somehow not updated... not sure what is happening
there. In the normal GTK menu a I have some custom shortcuts ... but
when enabling the appmenu they are not the same.

Cheers,
Adi

I would like to switch back though - but I guess the graphics card can't take

[Bug 713985] [NEW] Function tgammal has precision issues in version 2.12.1-0ubuntu10.2 on ARM

2011-02-06 Thread Snark
Public bug reported:

Consider the following test program :
#include stdio.h
#include math.h

int
main (int argc,
  char* argv[])
{
  long double x = 6.0;
  printf(tgammal (%.20Lf)=%.20Lfn, x, tgammal(x));
  return 0;
}

When run on 2.12.1-0ubuntu10.2, the result is :
tgammal (6.)=119.97157829
while when run on 2.11.2-11 (glibc's unstable), the result is :

The second result is acceptable, while the second isn't. This makes sage

[Bug 695664] Re: unity launcher lost track of chromium browser showing two icons for it

2011-02-06 Thread Valeryan_24
I have the same problem, not on Chromium, but on other apps like
Gpodder, Thunderbird, Firefox 4...

For those applications, I selected Keep in launcher to always have the
icon in Unity left dock, even if program is not launched.

Moreover, I added these apps in the Startup applications, to have them
automatically launched at Ubuntu startup.

And when computer starts, here is what I get (see screenshot) : there
are 1 or 2 icons, in additions to the sticky one, for these apps in the
dock.

When I close app and re-opens it from sticky dock icon, this time all is
OK, I have no more icon, just the normal sticky one, and get the small
white triangle on left showing app is active.
