[Bug 374589] Re: Samba fails to start at boot when not connected to network (and specific interfaces are configured)
I've adapted and tried the workaround developed by David Harel (the initial bug reporter) but that does not work with interfaces that are beyond NetworkManager's jurisdiction (e.g. vboxnet0). So we're left with two equally undesirable options - remove any interface binding condition (i.e. poor security). - develop a job polling for any interface status change with the task of systematically restarting smbd. when you bind on vboxnet0, wlan0 and eth0 interface status changes can be a pretty frequent event. So +1 for the wishlist. Why could smbd not simply listen (as in listener design pattern) to net interface changes and bind/unbind on any interface configured in smb.conf an when-available basis ? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/374589 Title: Samba fails to start at boot when not connected to network (and specific interfaces are configured) -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 529714] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in _nss_wins_gethostbyname_r()
Okay, I think I've found the issue, based on a crash with liferea:- At wins.c:95, we have DEBUGLEVEL = 0; Somewhere in source3/include/debug.h, we have #define DEBUGLEVEL *debug_level extern int DEBUGLEVEL; In source3/lib/debug.c, we have: int DEBUGLEVEL = debug_all_class_hack; Based on this, all seems well and good, except that due to a problematic build system, libnss_wins.so dynamically resolves this debug_level variable when loaded by libc. In the case of liferea, it uses a global int debug_level somewhere around its source code. I reckon the other applications that are affected by this bug also use something similar. Given that Natty is really near, and I reckon it's too late to be trying something grand like controlling what symbols do and do not get exported/dynamically resolved during load, I have come up with a patch that renames debug_level to smb_debug_level in source3/include/debug.h. This should solve the issue for the time being. I'm now test-building the patched package, and will post a follow-up comment. ** Patch added: debdiff-debuglevel.patch https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/529714/+attachment/2089845/+files/debdiff-debuglevel.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529714 Title: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in _nss_wins_gethostbyname_r() -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 771148] Re: redirect-gateway fails when default route does not use a gateway
Hi Andreas, Thank you for taking the time to report bugs and trying to make Ubuntu Server better. Unfortunately, this doesn't really seem like a bug of OpenVPN but rather ppp is probably not setting the default gateway when it should. Reading [1], we can confirm that OpenVPN *needs* the default route in this case, to be able to function properly. Now, in your PPP configuration you should be able to specify a default route a should set it as specified by [2] (since it seems like an old bug and fixed already) Furthermore, there's a work around to generate the default gateway automatically and can be found at [3]. Based on the information above, I'd say this bug should be set to Wont Fix.However, as there a related Debian bug, I'll keep it open as incomplete. I'm surprised nss modules aren't loaded with RTLD_DEEPBIND specified. This is a flag for dlopen() that allows you to indicate that module local symbols should preferred to global ones. From the manpage: RTLD_DEEPBIND (since glibc 2.3.4) Place the lookup scope of the symbols in this library ahead of the global scope. This means that a self-contained library will use its own symbols in preference to global symbols with the same name contained in libraries that have already been loaded. This flag is not specified in POSIX.1-2001. [Bug 771148] Re: redirect-gateway fails when default route does not use a gateway
Hi Andres, yes, OpenVPN needs a default route, and that route already exists. But you're mixing up route and gateway. PPP by definition does not need to specify a gateway, because all packets travel through the peer. To function properly, OpenVPN should create a host route through ppp0. To do this, no gateway IP address is required at all. E.g. if your OpenVPN-server's address is 1.2.3.4, then the client should create a route like ip route add 1.2.3.4/32 dev ppp0 instead of ip route add 1.2.3.4/32 via $GATEWAY dev ppp0. Of course, there are numerous ways to workaround this problem, but I'm more interested in solutions which work out of the box. [Bug 771227] Re: Domain save/restore does not work (kvm)
I've been trying this out every time a new version of Ubuntu is coming up for release, and it has never worked! However, this is the most promising result that I have seen to date. Maverick version of virt-manager seems to be able to correctly save the running state to a file, however it prompts you for a save location. It does not default to the location down /var/lib/libvirt. However, there appears to be no way to restore the VM through virt-manager on maverick. Despite this, I could successfully restore via virsh as follows: $ virsh restore debian.save In this case, the console springs to life inside virt-manager - with the VM in the running state that I saved. This is the behaviour I would expect to see. In terms of reproducibility, I have a Fedora and Debian guest. Neither are restorable on natty. They both simply start booting from scratch on restore. I am very encouraged by the how good things are looking on the virtualisation front on natty. As I was saying, this is the closest that I have come seeing this work seamlessly since libvirt and virt-manager were included. I suspect there is an issue with this particular version of libvirt. If I get some time I'll try rebuilding the 0.8.8 package with the 0.9.0 source and put it in my PPA. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/771227 Title: Domain save/restore does not work (kvm) -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 769873] Re: Launcher appears when switching between workspaces with fullscreen windows
Ah, looks like I am able to get the behaviour only when I set the key bindings to Super+Left, Right etc. In fact, the behaviour doesn't seem to be limited to switching workspaces, the Launcher intercepts any Super+Key shortcut and shows up temporarily. This is probably because its (default) keybinding is set to Super. If that's the case, two questions: 1. Isn't a key binding of Super supposed to imply Super key Down + Up, as opposed to Super key Down + Some other key? 2. I tried setting the key binding to something else, like Super+L, this fixes the issue. However, now Super+L only shows the Launcher with the icons, but not the entry box with the shortcuts / search results displayed etc. I am not able to invoke that at all using a keybinding unless its set to Super (the default), I have to click on the Ubuntu icon at the top left every time. I have attached a desktop recording showing the issue. ** Attachment added: Desktop recording https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/769873/+attachment/2090391/+files/ubuntu-bug769873.ogv -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/769873 Title: Launcher appears when switching between workspaces with fullscreen windows -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I tested this on my own system (where my router handles DHCPv6 and DHCPv4, IPv6 going through a tunnel from tunnelbroker.net (Hurricane Electric); I can see no issue. [Bug 770324] Re: DNS resolvers are not requested/learned from DHCPv6
From the dhclient.conf manpage: DHCPV6 OPERATION The client does not yet have a default DHCPv6 Option Request Option (ORO), nor has it been integrated with the 'request' and 'require' syn‐ tax above. It is neccessary to configure an ORO then. send dhcp6.oro 1, 2, 7, 12, 13, 23, 24, 39; The above ORO will request both identifiers (server, client), the pref‐ erence, unicast, nameservers, domain-search, and FQDN(v6) options. If you still have that Fedora14 install, can you confirm whether an oro is specifically defined on that system, if it's indeed running isc-dhcp 4? I think it does, but this mostly depends on whether the dhcp rpm package is installed; see 'rpm -q dhcp' if my memory serves me right. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/770324 Title: DNS resolvers are not requested/learned from DHCPv6 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
