*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 572410 ***

I have confirmed the same bug., but haven't tried modifying modifying
/etc/init/nmbd.conf yet.

After a reboot, I just type:

sudo nmdb

and it all works for me.

I have this problem on my static IP computer, but not on my dynamic IP
computer.

[Bug 919871] Re: Empathy Keeps Crashing

2012-01-22 Thread Phil. V
Sure, no problem. It's likely that this isn't a problem with the Ubuntu
packaging of empathy, and will need to be addressed by the folks over at
GNOME. Could you possibly report this to the empathy developers at their
bug tracker? The URL is here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/

After you do that please post the link to your bug here so I can link
the bugs on launchpad. Also, they're likely to ask for a stack trace
since this is a program crash. Instructions for obtaining that can be
found here: http://live.gnome.org/Empathy/Debugging

Thanks for your bug report. I marked your other report as a duplicate,
and am packaging this against the kernel, as that's the correct package
for a kernel oops.

Kernel folks: Maybe another duplicate of 917962?

[Bug 192508] Re: mouse keys to easy to accidently turn on

2012-01-22 Thread Timothy Arceri
** Summary changed:

- mouse keys turns on randomly
+ mouse keys to easy to accidently turn on

** Description changed:

I am using Hardy Heron and several times now I have tried to use my
number pad only to discover that they now move the mouse. I don't know
if there is a short cut key I am hitting on accident, but it is rather
annoying. Then sometimes when I disable mouse keys, the numlock becomes
switched so that the system thinks numlock is on when the light is off
  and vice-versa.
+
+ Update: the shortcut is: shift+num-lock

[Bug 857651] Re: Unable to hide users from login screen / user switcher

2012-01-22 Thread Neil Broadley
Another use case is corporate. Desktop roaming in an AD environment would
result in your PC being populated in the greeter by anyone who happened to use
your PC while you were on holiday. Or if support staff login to check a support
call, or if we get the user to login at another PC to troubleshoot an issue.
So the use case is still aesthetics, but in my environment at least, you'd have
greeters with 10+ entries on each PC and a lot of angry and confused staff
wondering why they see all this spurious stuff on their login screen.

Finally, it's obviously detrimental to security that cleaners can glance
at login screens to gather a list of valid usernames. There might be
other ways to do this as a cleaner, but Ubuntu's greeter makes this
stupidly easy.

As a wishlist item, therefore, I'd like the greeter to support the
concept of only ever show this user. Not sure what to log this
against though?

Add a case for users defined but not allowed to log in:

Certain kinds of sandbox users, for example users which are sudo

[Bug 352440] Re: Hardy: igb support for Intel 82576

2012-01-22 Thread Josh Enders
Looking for a fix?

The tl;dr version is to copy
/lib/modules/2.6.24-26-generic/kernel/drivers/dca/dca.ko from the linux-
image-2.6.24-26-generic_2.6.24-26.64_amd64.deb to the root of the most
current initrd. [1]

---

As a follow-up, my assertion was incorrect- It's not that the
initrd/kernel are mismatched, although the symptoms are similar, it's
that a dependency for igb-next.ko is missing in the latest netinstall
media for hardy: dca.ko. This is all too clear when you examine dmesg
output after a full night sleep: igb_next: Unknown symbol dca_*. This
was mentioned by an earlier commenter but I overlooked the post.

You can also verify this by using modinfo to check the module dependency:

$ modinfo igb-next.ko | grep depends
 depends:dca

In order to get igb-next.ko loaded and the kernel to recognize the Intel
82576 ethernet card properly, we need to do some modification of the
initrd.

The following steps will create patched Hardy netinstall media that will
recognize the Intel 82576 ethernet card. Do not forget to use the appropriate
kernel for the initrd this process creates.:

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/main/installer-amd64/20070308ubuntu40.13/images/netboot/ubuntu-installer/amd64/linux

$ sudo mkdir -p destroot/lib/modules/2.6.24-26-generic/kernel/drivers/dca/
$ wget
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/main/installer-amd64/20070308ubuntu40.13/images/netboot/ubuntu-installer/amd64/initrd.gz
$ zcat initrd.gz | ( cd destroot  sudo cpio -i )
$ wget
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/36450254/linux-image-2.6.24-26-generic_2.6.24-26.64_amd64.deb
$ dpkg --fsys-tarfile linux-image-2.6.24-26-generic_2.6.24-26.64_amd64.deb |
sudo tar -xOf - ./lib/modules/2.6.24-26-generic/kernel/drivers/dca/dca.ko
destroot/lib/modules/2.6.24-26-generic/kernel/drivers/dca/dca.ko
$ ( cd destroot  find . -print0 | sudo cpio -0 -H newc -o ) | gzip -c
initrd.gz.patched

sudo is needed so that cpio can create the device files /dev/console and
/dev/null in your buildroot and for consistent file permissions.

[1] I linked this file incorrectly in post #41, should NOT have been
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/main/installer-
amd64/20070308ubuntu40.13/images/netboot/ubuntu-
installer/amd64/pxelinux.0 but instead
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/main/installer-
amd64/20070308ubuntu40.13/images/netboot/ubuntu-
installer/amd64/initrd.gz . I apologize for the confusion.

[Bug 919925] [NEW] usbserial driver crashes when FTDI device is removed and reinserted

2012-01-22 Thread Dave Touretzky
Public bug reported:

I'm using a USB-to-serial cable containing an FTDI chip (FT232RL) that
uses the ftdio_sio driver, which depends on the usbserial driver. Upon
boot, the device shows up normally as /dev/ttyUSB0 and works fine.
However, if I unplug it and plug it back in again, the usbserial driver
crashes, as shown in /var/log/syslog. The device still mounts as
/dev/ttyUSB0 but when my program tries to access it, it receives no
data. Doing rmmod ftdi_sio usbserial and then plugging the device back
in fixes the problem.

The crash report from /var/log/syslog appears below:

Re: [Bug 919832] [NEW] Lazarus freezes when start

2012-01-22 Thread Paul Gevers
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

 TLazarusManager.Run starting /usr/lib/lazarus/0.9.30/lazarus ...

As you are using Ubuntu Precise (12.04) I assume (you could run
apport-collect 919832 to verify) that you are using lazarus 0.9.30.2
so this path seems wrong.

   PrimaryConfigPath=/home/ok2cqr/.lazarus

I believe it is configured in the directory above. As a test I propose
you move that directory aside and see if lazarus can start. If yes, move
the directory in place again and find references to 0.9.30 and replace
them with 0.9.30.2

Please report back.

Paul

Ah, I have been think it won't apply to the stable series, I am also
going to propose your fix to compiz-core/oneiric (or you can do that

[Bug 919928] [NEW] unable to handle kernel paging request at 2d6d6c2f

2012-01-22 Thread dino99
Public bug reported:

Get random kernel panic on Precise i386 + nvidia 8500gt + q9550 + intel
microcode, depending of how booting processes start:

case 1: after the kernel 3.2.0-10 is selected into grub menu, if the
screen become black, then the boot process end normally. Dont know why i
get this black screen instead of the plymouth.

case 2 : after the kernel start booting, plymouth screen with its dots
immediatly appear, wait for a few seconds/minutes dots changing color.
At this moment most of the time kernel panic appear and needs a cold
reboot. But sometimes, like today, the dots continue changing color but
there is no more hdd activity, so switching to verbose mode lets see
whats going on, and this has been logged to:

[Bug 919832] Re: Lazarus freezes when start

Hello Paul,

the config path is correct. It is into my homedirectory. If i try

apport-collect 919832
Package lazarus not installed and no hook available, ignoring

I tried to remove the .lazarus directory but the problem is still the
same. What is much worse, the same problem has my app compiled in
Lazarus. It uses threads as well. It seems that the problem is somewhere
in fpc or Lazarus itself.

I attached a screenshot where you can see how it looks like.

[Bug 828761] Re: Resume from suspend takes much more time when nvidia-current driver is installed.

2012-01-22 Thread Lukasz Olszewski
Well it seems that it does but (for me at least) it happens much much less
often with gnome-shell than with Unity and as you said it recovers much more
smoothly. The difference is so big that I'm not even sure that it's the same
bug... But if it is then we're left only with nvidia-drivers issue since
gnome-shell doesn't use compiz...
BTW nerdy_kid: are you using lightdm or gdm?

[Bug 919928] Re: unable to handle kernel paging request at 2d6d6c2f

2012-01-22 Thread dino99
Hopes this is not related to this kernel issue:

CRDA: Error: command ['iw', 'reg', 'get'] failed with exit code 1:
nl80211 not found.

because this system has NO wifi hardware module (has been removed,
optional module) so the kernel should only detect that but not failed on
that missing nl80211

[Bug 912992] Re: [snb-m-gt2+] Primary laptop display not working, external monitor works fine.

2012-01-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
I now need the 'noapic' flag in my boot options again.
Is this the same bug, or a different issue?

Dunno, but it's a quite interesting clue.
Thanks for copying your info upstream, hopefully it'll give them some specific
ideas.

Glad to hear that toggling the LVDS1 serves as a workaround. It also
suggests there may be a race condition going on here or something. I'm
curious what ratio of times it works, roughly? Like 10%? 50%? 75%?

[Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2012-01-22 Thread Ray Nichols
I've been using #145 but be aware that when the kernel changes you will need to
re-install your Nvidia driver. There is no clear message (on booting) when this
has happened but my system booted and stopped at a message:
Checking battery state ... [OK]

Re-install of the driver fixed the problem (the required side effect is
to rebuild the kernel module).

BTW If you ever need to stop X in Oneiric, to re-install this driver,
the service is now called lightdm.

When Ubuntu includes a driver greater than 275.43 it will be great to
avoid this faff.

Hi Petr,

 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lazarus/+bug/919832/+attachment/2687003/+files/lazarus.png

Looking at the screenshot it looks like you have mixing of versions. You
need the latest lazarus in Ubuntu Precise which is version 0.9.30.2-1
and NOT as the top of you screen shot shows 0.9.30-3. If I am correct,
version 0.9.30-3 was build against the previous version of fpc in
Ubuntu, so it will not work with the latest fpc.

Please install the lazarus package and run apport-collect 919832
again. I would really like to see the information that that would
provide, as it will tell us which versions of different dependencies are.

[Bug 919830] Crash report cannot be processed

2012-01-22 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

python2.7 version 2.7.2-13ubuntu2 required, but 2.7.2-13ubuntu4 is available
python2.7-minimal version 2.7.2-13ubuntu2 required, but 2.7.2-13ubuntu4 is
available

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!
