** Summary changed: - mouse keys turns on randomly + mouse keys to easy to accidently turn on ** Description changed: I am using Hardy Heron and several times now I have tried to use my number pad only to discover that they now move the mouse. I don't know if there is a short cut key I am hitting on accident, but it is rather annoying. Then sometimes when I disable mouse keys, the numlock becomes switched so that the system thinks numlock is on when the light is off and vice-versa. + + Update: the shortcut is: shift+num-lock -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192508 Title: mouse keys to easy to accidently turn on To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/192508/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 857651] Re: Unable to hide users from login screen / user switcher
Another use case is corporate. Desktop roaming in an AD environment would result in your PC being populated in the greeter by anyone who happened to use your PC while you were on holiday. Or if support staff login to check a support call, or if we get the user to login at another PC to troubleshoot an issue. So the use case is still aesthetics, but in my environment at least, you'd have greeters with 10+ entries on each PC and a lot of angry and confused staff wondering why they see all this spurious stuff on their login screen. Finally, it's obviously detrimental to security that cleaners can glance at login screens to gather a list of valid usernames. There might be other ways to do this as a cleaner, but Ubuntu's greeter makes this stupidly easy. As a wishlist item, therefore, I'd like the greeter to support the concept of only ever show this user. This is all too clear when you examine dmesg output after a full night sleep: igb_next: Unknown symbol dca_*. This was mentioned by an earlier commenter but I overlooked the post. You can also verify this by using modinfo to check the module dependency: $ modinfo igb-next.ko | grep depends depends:dca In order to get igb-next.ko loaded and the kernel to recognize the Intel 82576 ethernet card properly, we need to do some modification of the initrd. The following steps will create patched Hardy netinstall media that will recognize the Intel 82576 ethernet card. Do not forget to use the appropriate kernel for the initrd this process creates.: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/main/installer-amd64/20070308ubuntu40.13/images/netboot/ubuntu-installer/amd64/linux $ sudo mkdir -p destroot/lib/modules/2.6.24-26-generic/kernel/drivers/dca/ $ wget http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/main/installer-amd64/20070308ubuntu40.13/images/netboot/ubuntu-installer/amd64/initrd.gz $ zcat initrd.gz | ( cd destroot sudo cpio -i ) $ wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/36450254/linux-image-2.6.24-26-generic_2.6.24-26.64_amd64.deb $ dpkg --fsys-tarfile linux-image-2.6.24-26-generic_2.6.24-26.64_amd64.deb | sudo tar -xOf - ./lib/modules/2.6.24-26-generic/kernel/drivers/dca/dca.ko destroot/lib/modules/2.6.24-26-generic/kernel/drivers/dca/dca.ko $ ( cd destroot find . -print0 | sudo cpio -0 -H newc -o ) | gzip -c initrd.gz.patched sudo is needed so that cpio can create the device files /dev/console and /dev/null in your buildroot and for consistent file permissions. [1] I linked this file incorrectly in post #41, should NOT have been http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/main/installer- amd64/20070308ubuntu40.13/images/netboot/ubuntu- installer/amd64/pxelinux.0 but instead http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/main/installer- amd64/20070308ubuntu40.13/images/netboot/ubuntu- installer/amd64/initrd.gz . [Bug 919925] [NEW] usbserial driver crashes when FTDI device is removed and reinserted
Public bug reported: I'm using a USB-to-serial cable containing an FTDI chip (FT232RL) that uses the ftdio_sio driver, which depends on the usbserial driver. Upon boot, the device shows up normally as /dev/ttyUSB0 and works fine. However, if I unplug it and plug it back in again, the usbserial driver crashes, as shown in /var/log/syslog. The device still mounts as /dev/ttyUSB0 but when my program tries to access it, it receives no data. Doing rmmod ftdi_sio usbserial and then plugging the device back in fixes the problem. The crash report from /var/log/syslog appears below: Jan 22 03:29:18 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1426.840198] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 7 Jan 22 03:29:18 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1427.040438] usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice Jan 22 03:29:18 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1427.047507] ftdi_sio 2-1:1.0: FTDI USB Serial Device converter detected Jan 22 03:29:18 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1427.047767] usb 2-1: Detected FT232RL Jan 22 03:29:18 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1427.047781] usb 2-1: Number of endpoints 2 Jan 22 03:29:18 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1427.047793] usb 2-1: Endpoint 1 MaxPacketSize 64 Jan 22 03:29:18 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1427.047805] usb 2-1: Endpoint 2 MaxPacketSize 64 Jan 22 03:29:18 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1427.047816] usb 2-1: Setting MaxPacketSize 64 Jan 22 03:29:18 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1427.048514] usb 2-1: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538142] [ cut here ] Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538180] WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.32/drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c:440 serial_unthrottle+0x8c/0x90 [usbserial]() Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538196] Hardware name: 1015PX Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538204] Modules linked in: ftdi_sio usbserial joydev binfmt_misc ppdev snd _hda_codec_realtek fbcon tileblit font bitblit softcursor vga16fb vgastate snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_hwdep snd_pcm_oss snd_mixer_oss arc4 snd_pcm snd_seq_dummy snd_seq_oss snd_seq_midi snd_rawmidi snd_seq_midi_event snd_seq ath9k snd_timer i9 15 mac80211 snd_seq_device uvcvideo ath videodev v4l1_compat drm_kms_helper snd cfg80211 v4l2_compat_ioctl32 psmouse serio_r aw atl1c drm led_class intel_agp i2c_algo_bit soundcore snd_page_alloc video output lp parport ahci [last unloaded: usbserial] Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538403] Pid: 2049, comm: tekkotsu-CREATE Not tainted 2.6.32-37-generic #81-Ubuntu Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538412] Call Trace: Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538435] [810665ab] warn_slowpath_common+0x7b/0xc0 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538449] [81066604] warn_slowpath_null+0x14/0x20 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538467] [a03a46ac] serial_unthrottle+0x8c/0x90 [usbserial] Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538483] [813332c9] tty_unthrottle+0x49/0x60 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538497] [81331021] reset_buffer_flags+0xd1/0x100 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538510] [8133106d] n_tty_flush_buffer+0x1d/0x90 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538522] [8133440f] ? tty_ldisc_try+0x4f/0x60 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538535] [81334c37] tty_ldisc_flush+0x37/0x60 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538549] [81335eae] tty_port_close_end+0x2e/0x100 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538566] [a03a4d09] serial_close+0x89/0xc0 [usbserial] Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538579] [8132e413] tty_release_dev+0x163/0x5e0 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538595] [810fc81d] ? free_hot_page+0x2d/0x60 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538626] [a00f5ba8] ? snd_card_file_remove+0x88/0x180 [snd] Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538640] [8132e8ae] tty_release+0x1e/0x30 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538655] [81145e65] __fput+0xf5/0x210 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538668] [81145fa5] fput+0x25/0x30 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538681] [811420cd] filp_close+0x5d/0x90 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538695] [810686af] put_files_struct+0x7f/0xf0 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538709] [81068774] exit_files+0x54/0x70 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538723] [8106acdb] do_exit+0x15b/0x390 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538736] [8106af65] do_group_exit+0x55/0xd0 Jan 22 03:29:36 tekkotsu-calliope1 kernel: [ 1444.538751]

Re: [Bug 919832] [NEW] Lazarus freezes when start
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. TLazarusManager.Run starting /usr/lib/lazarus/0.9.30/lazarus ... As you are using Ubuntu Precise (12.04) I assume (you could run apport-collect 919832 to verify) that you are using lazarus 0.9.30.2 so this path seems wrong. PrimaryConfigPath=/home/ok2cqr/.lazarus I believe it is configured in the directory above. As a test I propose you move that directory aside and see if lazarus can start. If yes, move the directory in place again and find references to 0.9.30 and replace them with 0.9.30.2 Please report back. But sometimes, like today, the dots continue changing color but there is no more hdd activity, so switching to verbose mode lets see whats going on, and this has been logged to: Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436478] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 2d6d6c2f Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436485] IP: [c1120d8f] unlink_anon_vmas+0x3f/0x170 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436494] *pdpt = 296e2001 *pde = Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436498] Oops: [#1] SMP Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436501] Modules linked in: parport_pc ppdev autofs4 dm_crypt nfsd nfs binfmt_misc lockd fscache auth_rpcgss nfs_acl sunrpc nvidia(P) xt_hl ip6t_rt nf_conntrack_ipv6 nf_defrag_ipv6 snd_hda_codec_realtek ipt_REJECT ipt_LOG snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_hwdep psmouse serio_raw xt_limit snd_pcm xt_tcpudp xt_addrtype xt_state snd_seq_midi snd_rawmidi snd_seq_midi_event ip6table_filter snd_seq ip6_tables nf_conntrack_netbios_ns nf_conntrack_broadcast nf_nat_ftp nf_nat nf_conntrack_ipv4 nf_defrag_ipv4 nf_conntrack_ftp nf_conntrack snd_timer snd_seq_device iptable_filter asus_atk0110 ip_tables x_tables snd mac_hid soundcore snd_page_alloc i82975x_edac edac_core w83627ehf hwmon_vid coretemp parport vesafb firewire_ohci firewire_core floppy crc_itu_t pata_jmicron sky2 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436545] Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436548] Pid: 358, comm: udevd Tainted: P O 3.2.0-10-generic-pae #17-Ubuntu ASUSTEK COMPUTER INC P5W DH Deluxe/P5W DH Deluxe Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436552] EIP: 0060:[c1120d8f] EFLAGS: 00010283 CPU: 1 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436554] EIP is at unlink_anon_vmas+0x3f/0x170 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436556] EAX: 736e656b EBX: f698e5f0 ECX: 80aa0068 EDX: f698e5f8 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436558] ESI: 736e656b EDI: 2d6d6c2f EBP: e86efe94 ESP: e86efe78 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436560] DS: 007b ES: 007b FS: 00d8 GS: 00e0 SS: 0068 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436562] Process udevd (pid: 358, ti=e86ee000 task=f68d6580 task.ti=e86ee000) Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436564] Stack: Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436565] f6a3e230 f6988580 f69885bc f6a3e230 f6988580 f6988478 b757c000 e86efeb8 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436571] c11155aa c12c2b6e 0020 e86efecc f697e948 f6a30800 bf926000 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436576] e86eff18 c111d8e1 e86eff08 f6a30800 f5a42afd 0001 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436582] Call Trace: Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436585] [c11155aa] free_pgtables+0x7a/0xe0 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436589] [c12c2b6e] ? __percpu_counter_add+0x7e/0xb0 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436592] [c111d8e1] exit_mmap+0xb1/0x120 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436596] [c1058559] mmput.part.21+0x39/0xf0 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436598] [c1058632] mmput+0x22/0x30 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436601] [c105e4a8] exit_mm+0xe8/0x100 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436604] [c15a2cf8] ? _raw_spin_lock_irq+0x18/0x20 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436607] [c105e5f7] do_exit+0x137/0x390 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436611] [c1045cc8] ? ttwu_do_activate.constprop.176+0x58/0x70 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436613] [c105e9a8] do_group_exit+0x38/0xa0 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436616] [c10613ac] ? irq_exit+0x3c/0xa0 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436618] [c105ea28] sys_exit_group+0x18/0x20 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436621] [c15a9ddf] sysenter_do_call+0x12/0x28 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436623] Code: 40 3c 83 c2 3c 89 55 ec 39 c2 8b 30 8d 58 f8 0f 84 fb 00 00 00 83 ee 08 c7 45 f0 00 00 00 00 eb 07 8d 76 00 89 f3 89 c6 8b 7b 04 8b 0f 39 4d f0 74 1c 8b 45 f0 85 c0 0f 85 db 00 00 00 8d 41 04 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436657] EIP: [c1120d8f] unlink_anon_vmas+0x3f/0x170 SS:ESP 0068:e86efe78 Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436660] CR2: 2d6d6c2f Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436663] ---[ end trace 18be7e337e00d29e ]--- Jan 22 09:22:15 localhost kernel: [ 39.436665] Fixing recursive fault but reboot is

[Bug 828761] Re: Resume from suspend takes much more time when nvidia-current driver is installed.
Well it seems that it does but (for me at least) it happens much much less often with gnome-shell than with Unity and as you said it recovers much more smoothly. [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop
I've been using #145 but be aware that when the kernel changes you will need to re-install your Nvidia driver. There is no clear message (on booting) when this has happened but my system booted and stopped at a message: Checking battery state ... [OK] Re-install of the driver fixed the problem (the required side effect is to rebuild the kernel module). BTW If you ever need to stop X in Oneiric, to re-install this driver, the service is now called lightdm.
