[Bug 933392]

2012-02-16 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/933392/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 932688] Re: Unity 3D causes video apps to malfunction

2012-02-16 Thread Shock
I had tried the nuveau driver back when I first encountered the issue
but I couldn't use it because subtitles in XBMC would flicker
constantly. I'll give it another go (there have been a few updates to
XBMC since then) and report back, however using the same nvidia
proprietary drivers I haven't encountered the issue in Gnome Shell.

[Bug 933417] [NEW] Stack smashing while using a lot of connections

2012-02-16 Thread Anton Kortunov
Public bug reported:

libfcgi uses select syscall, when some applications tryes to use more
than 1024 connections from web-server it crashes. There is a solutions
for this problem: use poll in os_unix.c instead of select. Patch with
this change is attached to this bug. This patch was written in Yandex
and successfully used for a several months.

LIBFCGI_OS_CLOSE_POLL_TIMEOUT and LIBFCGI_IS_AF_UNIX_KEEPER_POLL_TIMEOUT
environment variables are added to control poll timeouts in Os_Close and
is_af_unix_keeper functions accordingly.

[Bug 905528] Re: create command to launch printer-specific print queue viewer

2012-02-16 Thread Lars Uebernickel
It's in Ubuntu precise since today (final release of precise will be in
April).

The patch is in my branch here (hit the download diff link to get a
raw version):

  http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~larsu/system-config-printer/remove-
applet/revision/214

It's a fairly simple patch that does from the command line what Ctrl+F
did in the GUI. I don't think that system-config-printer can show queues
across all printers right now. Adding that would be a bit more work.

[Bug 870835] Re: flashplugin-installer still installs i386 plugin version, though native 64 bit plugin available

2012-02-16 Thread Wim Deblauwe
I managed to find the workaround myself:

First install the 'nspluginwrapper':

sudo apt-get install nspluginwrapper

Then copy the debug player to the correct location:

sudo cp libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/

Next, call nspluginwrapper:

sudo nspluginwrapper -i /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so

[Bug 933430] [NEW] Click and drag using touchpad requires extra click to stop.

2012-02-16 Thread Zach Burnham
Public bug reported:

For example, when moving a window or selecting text in a document. Using
touchpad, I expected to click and hold while moving the cursor, and to
have the click end when lifting my finger. This is how it used to work
before recent updates. But now the click is still held and it isn't
ended until I tap on the touchpad once again. It's quite a painful bug
that would affect many users.

[Bug 927028] Re: 'apropos' maxes out CPU when run with '/bin/*' as argument

2012-02-16 Thread Ben Okopnik
Yep, what I sent was a demo of the problem. As to why you'd do this...
um, newbie Linux users wanting to see what all the standard utlities do,
for example? That makes for a rather useful functional reference. Given
that part of what I do is teach such newbies, I personally would find it
nice to be able to recommend it to them. :)

(Obviously, I can use a 'for' loop to do the same thing for now.)

[Bug 933433] [NEW] Kubuntu manual install crashed during bootloader configuration with Python stacktrace

2012-02-16 Thread Andrew McDonnell
Public bug reported:

Reported error was ValueError: invalid literal for int() with base 10:
'' - a very old Ubiquity bug 42774 has same message but stack trace
was completely different at a different point.

Cause:

1. Start Kubuntu CD, select 'Install' from the CD menu
2. Do a manual partition. Drive has NTFS XP at sda2 with a rescue NTFS at sda1
and 40GB free space
3. Added 12G XFS partition at sda5 and swap at sda6
4. Set to install bootloader to sda5
5. Installer progressed and copied files then died with the following stack
trace on the 'Configuring Bootloader' screen

Traceback (most recent call last):

Digression: I should have made /boot at sda3 primary partition which would have
allowed me to copy the first 512 bytes of sda3 to a bin file to chain from the
XP bootloader.

[Bug 933434] [NEW] Partman crashed after deleting partition during Kubuntu 10.04.4 installer manual partitioning

2012-02-16 Thread Andrew McDonnell
Public bug reported:

What happened:

1. Running Kubuntu 10.04.4 installer (during ISO testing)
2. Deleted sda5 (was XFS partition
3. Deleted sda6 (was swap)
4. Clicked the mouse on the free space to create a new partition
5. The installer went away and did not even produce a stack trace report
6. Kubuntu Live session started up as though nothing happened

Disk was partitioned as follows:

[Bug 933433] Re: Kubuntu manual install crashed during bootloader configuration with Python stacktrace

2012-02-16 Thread Andrew McDonnell
I just had a look inside syslog, and you learn something new every day
it seems:

It would appear that installing grub onto an XFS logical partition is
disallowed, and this is the underlying cause of the Python stack trace?
I believe bug is still valid however; the installer should catch the failure
and not crash with the integer error message.

1. Default behaviour (Unity behaviour)
2. No global menu (Windows behaviour, clumsily settable by removing
indicator-appmenu)
3. Always show global menu (OS X behaviour, not settable at the moment)

Also, it does not help that some applications appearently somehow
circumvent the Unity behaviour by having their menus on the top of the
window, for instance, Synaptic, while other applications have no menus
at all.

[Bug 932688] Re: Unity 3D causes video apps to malfunction

2012-02-16 Thread Shock
Ok, gave it another try with nouveau -- things are much worse than I remembered.
Versions:
ii libdrm-nouveau1a2.4.26-1ubuntu1 Userspace interface
to nouveau-specific kernel DRM services -- runtime
ii xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20110411+837844 X.Org X server --
Nouveau display driver (experimental)

  * nouveau + unity 3d + XBMC:
playing a video: subtitles would flicker, the XBMC HUD would flicker, unity
launcher and panel would flicker over the video, parts of the video would
flicker, only some parts of the video would update and would switch back and
forth between two frames (video buffers?)
exiting full screen: only part of the launcher was rendered (right half) and
the screen would be stuck. hit Alt+SysRq+k got a blank screen, Ctrl+Alt+F1
would not give me console (visually) but Ctrl+Alt+Del worked.
  * nouveau + gnome shell + XBMC
playing a video: subtitles would flicker, but less. the XBMC HUD would flicker,
but the video played properly.
exiting fullscreen: the screen was stuck displaying the GS top panel and the
XBMC window and would not update. the system appeared stuck (NumLk would not
toggle) so I did Alt+SysRq+REISUB.

[Bug 932687] Re: nfs4_reclaim_locks: unhandled error crashes applications and creates high load

2012-02-16 Thread coli
Okay downgrading to 3.0.0-12 doesn't change anything, but downgrading to
the latest natty-kernel 2.6.38-13-generic seems to have fixed the
problem, at least so far (no hangs within two hours now).

If someone has the same problem, I just downloaded the natty-kernel
here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty-updates/linux-
image-2.6.38-13-generic and installed it with dpkg -i. Of course that's
no longtime solution because ubuntu-packages may require kernel 3+.

[Bug 933452] [NEW] NetworkManager not showing vpnc (cisco) option

2012-02-16 Thread Reuben Firmin
Public bug reported:

I installed network-manager-vpnc (and vpnc), then restarted network
manager, restarted dbus, rebooted the machine, performed magic goat
incantations, etc but despite all of which the VPN menu only shows PPTP
as an option. This is frustrating, since I'd like to use NetworkManager
to connect to a cisco VPN.

[Bug 364583] Re: release no longer supported message missing

2012-02-16 Thread Marc Deslauriers
I can confirm the package in -proposed works.

Before updating, Hardy's update-manager wanted me to upgrade to
Intrepid. After the update, it's telling me to upgrade to Lucid.

[Bug 401823] Re: Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

2012-02-16 Thread A. Eibach
This should really be passed to the GDK guys as well (if no one has
beaten me to it meanwhile)

That XID collision, trouble ahead message originates from
/usr/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.

I also have this problem. Is there any script i can set to run
automatically at start to circumvent this bug? It's annoying to log out
and in everytime after booting my netbook.

[Bug 930639] Re: Please merge scribus 1.4.0.dfsg+r17287-1 (main) from Debian sid (main)

2012-02-16 Thread Bernhard Reiter
I've noticed this bug report and merge request only after I did similar work to
merge the (a bit more recent) 1.4.0.dfsg+r17300-1 version from Debian -- see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/scribus/+bug/932962
As my debdiff has now been merged, I'm setting this bug report to Invalid.
(Sorry!)
(One hint for the future: you should subscribe ubuntu-sponsors to bug reports
that request merging or syncing from Debian in order to attract attention by
the people that are responsible for this kind of stuff.)

[Bug 933453] [NEW] ThinkPad T420s overheats and crashes under 11.10

2012-02-16 Thread O Gopal
Public bug reported:

This problem started for me within the last 2 weeks or so (though this
may be related to my traveling in a hot African summer climate).

The most annoying aspect of the behavior is that instead of gracefully
suspending or shutting down, the system just abruptly turns off -- in
essence, crashes.

I am an ordinary user and cannot provide technical information about
which packages might be involved.

Ubuntu version is 11.10 64-bit. All packages are up to date. ThinkPad is
T420s using integrated graphics (not NVDIA).
