[Bug 924427] Re: lan not started after boot

2012-02-16 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.3 kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've
tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing'
tag(Only that one tag, please leave the other tags). This can be done by
clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom
of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel
version 3.3-rc2 fixed the issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed-
upstream-v3.3-rc2'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 919216] Re: aptitude returns 0 exit status code even if the requested action is not successful

2012-02-16 Thread Daniel Hartwig
Well, in the case of failing dependencies, it seems like any choice at
the prompt gives a 0 return value. Is the rationale that 'aptitude
managed to abort successfully' equals success? If that is the intended
functionality, then I cannot trust aptitude to give any meaningful
 return value.

In choosing to abort at the prompt the return value of 0 should be
considered a bug. Other choices made at the prompt have the effect of
changing your instructions, and thus, if the new request succeeds, the
return value should indicate that.

And as far as I can see, the bug you refer to only concerns failing to
install a specified version. At least that's what it patches.

Both case 2 in the OP and the case in the mentioned Debian bug report
are symptoms of the same underlying problem: failure to find the
specified installation candidate.

[Bug 931806] Re: linux-lts-backport-natty: 2.6.38-13.56~lucid1 -proposed tracker

2012-02-16 Thread nutznboltz
I made a copy of linux-lts-backport-natty: 2.6.38-13.56~lucid1 into
https://launchpad.net/~nutznboltz/+archive/lp-931806-testing
and installed that on a KVM server.

by default now:

net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-iptables = 1

VM guest is firewalled off, can only reach the VM host.

If I run:

$ sudo sysctl -w net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-iptables=0
net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-iptables = 0

Then the VM guest can access the network.

This is the same behavior I see on Ubuntu 12.04 (developer branch).

I don't remember seeing this on a 2.6.38 backport to Lucid before.

During 12.04 testing I had to add this:

   case node[:lsb][:codename]
   when 'precise'
   # Ubuntu 12.04 iptables FORWARD section will control the
bridge (bridging) by default.
   # Without the following adjustment VM guests' network
will not be reachable
   # beyond the VM host when the FORWARD policy is set to
DROP or REJECT.

   # Adjust firewall immediately
   execute /sbin/sysctl -w
'net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-iptables=0' do
   only_if { File.exists?('/proc/sys/net/bridge') }
   end

   # Also at boot time
   execute echo 'net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-iptables=0'
/etc/sysctl.conf do
   only_if do
   File.exists?('/proc/sys/net/bridge') \

File.open(/etc/sysctl.conf).grep(/^net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-iptables=0/).empty?
   end
   end
end

[Bug 933591] [NEW] SongWrite crashes before it even opens

2012-02-16 Thread Aatcman
Public bug reported:

I just installed songwrite from the software center.

When I try to run it from the launcher, it just sits there and does
nothing.

If i try to run it from the command line, i get struct.error: byte

I installed timidity before I installed this - was that the wrong order
or something?

Thanks!!!

2012-02-16 Thread Francesco Fumanti
Version 0.97.0 with the additional language bugfix (revision 756 of
trunk) is now in the Snapshots PPA for oneiric. It should be available
as soon as launchpad has finished building it.

Please, be aware that the new auto-show feature of Onboard requires at-
spi2 and I don't know in what state at-spi2 is in oneiric.

[Bug 913694] Re: [MIR] whoopsie-daisy

2012-02-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package whoopsie-daisy - 0.1.8

---
whoopsie-daisy (0.1.8) precise; urgency=low

  * Security fixes. Thanks Jamie Strandboge for the review.
- Check the return value of the open call in get_system_uuid.
- Properly initialize libcrypt.
- Check that the call to gcry_md_open succeeds
- Ensure that reading the SHA512 message digest succeeds.
- Protect against changes to the message digest length creating a
  security vulnerability.
- Check the returncode of setenv.
- Use /var/lock/whoopsie instead of /tmp/.whoopsie-lock.
- umask is usually called before fork.
- Future-proof by using getrlimit instead of explicitly closing STD*
- Redirect stdin, stdout, and stderr to /dev/null.
- Ensure strings created in update_to_crash_file are NULL-terminated.
- Only process regular files in /var/crash.
- Replace calls to *alloc with g_*alloc, which calls abort() on
  failure.
- Remove unused system_uuid pointer.
- Fix warnings in make check.
- Initialize all of curl.
- Redirect stderr to null in chgrp and chmod calls.
- Set home directory to /nonexistent.
- Enable libcrypt secure memory.
- Put the lock file in /var/lock/whoopsie/.
- Sanity check the CRASH_DB_URL environment variable.
- Added tests:
  - Check handling of embedded NUL bytes.
  - Verify that symlinks in /var/crash produce the correct error
message.
  - Verify that keys without values in reports produce an error message.
  - Ensure that the report does not start with a value.
  - Correctly identify a report without spaces as malformed.
  - Verify that directories in /var/crash produce the correct error
message.
  - Ensure that blank lines in a report are treated as errors.
  - Ensure that carriage returns are escaped.
  - Do not start multi-line values with a newline.
  - Check that a valid report has the exact expected contents.
  - Ensure that other variants of embedded carriage returns are escaped.
  - Verify that reports without a trailing newline are handled properly.
  * Change crash database URL to http://daisy.ubuntu.com.
  * Main inclusion request approved (LP: #913694).

[Bug 744187] Re: [g45] Black screen on boot acer travelmate 5735Z, intel gma 4500mh

2012-02-16 Thread sma
An additional problem is, when the computer wakes up after
hibernate/standby, the screen will stay black.

I found three workarounds, that promise to solve this problem:

1) http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11423423#post11423423

2) http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11578848postcount=4

3) http://linux-on-acer-aspire-5732z.blogspot.com/2011/06/backlight-
workaround-for-linux-mint-11.html

Can someone report, if one of the workarounds mentioned above are OK on
an Acer Travelmate 5735Z ?

2012-02-16 Thread Kai23
I always have this problem (crash of gnome-shell) with the gnome3
extension « Places Status Indicator », while trying to open « removable

Solution for me, when it does not want to reopen gnome shell, is to have
a launcher in cairo dock with « gnome-shell --replace ».

[Bug 719691] Re: ecryptfs returns EINVAL rather than EISDIR on read() on directory

2012-02-16 Thread Colin King
SRU Justification:

Impact: Read on an ecryptfs directory should return EISDIR if not
supported however currently EINVAL is being returned rather than
EISDIR.

Fix: With this patch a .read operation for ecryptfs directories is
connected up to generic_read_dir() which then performs the correct
behavior.

Testcase:

See comment #1 in the bug report.

[Bug 889706] Re: Gnome-shell randomly crashes

2012-02-16 Thread Romano Giannetti
I have a AMD graphic card with the last (12.1) proprietary drivers on one PC,
and it crashes frequently. And another netbook with Intel graphics that does
not crash so often, but sometimes it does.
I think it's associated with pop up windows, especially the new style ons that
come attached to the top bar of the main windows. Most of the time the crash
coincides with appearance or disappearance of them.

[Bug 933606] [NEW] menu windows leave behind bodiless drop-shadows

2012-02-16 Thread Nick Moffitt
Public bug reported:

transient windows (at least those from menus) leave behind their drop-
shadow outlines when they disappear. In the screenshot I'm about to
attach, the top left drop-shadow box was from the terminal's menu (I
resized one terminal to 80x43), the right one is just the nautilus
context menu, and I forgot what the other one is already.

The shadows seem to vanish when I re-open that particular menu, so
there's one per app I think (at least re-clicking the nautilus context
menu makes the old shadow disappear and a new one take its place).

Carlos,

You should be able to install the binary .deb files and not worry about
building from source. Are you on 32-bit or 64-bit Ubuntu? I could point
you to the specific .deb files to download. This particular fix has been
included in what will be the upcoming Ubuntu 12.04 release.

Yes, I agree, which is why i set this to wishlist. I do not know the

[Bug 933610] [NEW] [MIR] unity-scope-video-remote

2012-02-16 Thread David Callé
Public bug reported:

Package: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-scope-video-remote

Availability: Universe

Rationale: A scope for the Video lens, allowing to search several video
sources at the same time (Amazon, BBC, Youtube, etc.).

Security: This package has had no reported CVE's.

Quality assurance: Manual tests are ready to be included in checkbox-
unity. The package provides a watch file and doesn't have any
outstanding bug.

Standards Compliance: Complies with FHS and Debian packaging standards.

UI standards: NA

Dependencies: Depends on the Video lens, currently under MIR. All other
packages are in main.

Maintenance: The remote video scope is actively maintained by the
upstream https://launchpad.net/unity-lens-videos but should eventually
fall under the umbrella of team Unity.

Background information: This scope allows the user to query a server
maintained by the U1 team. The available sources (and their API) are
handled server side.

[Bug 919356] Re: Default hostname needed for PowerPC

2012-02-16 Thread ojordan
I downloaded the 14/2/2012 lubuntu CD to try and re-create Fairnet's
problem. It certainly is crash-tastic (a whole load of messages when
the desktop first appears), but it installed perfectly. No sign of the
mirror problem in the syslog. From what I remember of the code that
DEBUG message in post 1 is only printed if the installer is set to
manual - its absence must mean we are now on automatic? Which is good!

From the lubuntu QA message list I think Fairnet has now got a
successful install using the 15/2/2012 CD https://lists.launchpad.net
/lubuntu-qa/msg00077.html .

There is another problem with the PowerPC installs - I don't think it is
what Fairnet experienced though - where the nvram is not updated to the
new bootloader partition. It only comes to light on a dual boot system.
It is to do with a lack of /dev/nvram. I think it is due to a kernel
change as nvram is now a module and it wasn't before. I'm going to look
into that a bit more, but I think I'll end up raising a bug against the
kernel package.

[Bug 933619] [NEW] Environment variable defaults are not updated when Network Proxy settings change

2012-02-16 Thread Boris Burtin
Public bug reported:

When network proxy settings change, the default values of http_proxy,
ftp_proxy, and https_proxy are not updated. New terminal sessions still
have the old proxy settings. To work around this, I have to manually
unset the variables every time I start a new terminal session.

[Bug 933618] [NEW] Launcher doesn't auto-hide after using Super+1..9 shortcuts

2012-02-16 Thread Guilherme Salgado
Public bug reported:

After the last unity update my Launcher gets stuck after I hit any
Super+1..9 combination. I have it configured to auto-hide so whenever I
hit Super+1..9 it used to appear for a fraction of a second and then
hide but now it gets stuck as if I was holding down the Super key. The
only way I've managed to hide it is to then click on the workspace
switcher.

If I only hit the Super key to open the launcher it shows up as expected
and I can use Esc to close it just fine, which doesn't happen when I
use the combination above.

[Bug 933615] [NEW] menu shadows not clearing when menus close

2012-02-16 Thread Jonathan Rothwell
Public bug reported:

When a menu is closed, its shadow remains on the screen. It appears on
all workspaces and can't be got rid of. This leads to ugly ghosting of
menus.

This occurs on both indicator menus (including the global menu) and
other menus (e.g. context menus in Firefox.)

[Bug 878820] Re: Window Management, Keyboard shortcut - The grid keybindings are behaving inconsistently

2012-02-16 Thread Gary
I'm chiming in too as someone who extremely highly values the original
behavior (repeated presses resize the window repeatedly for all numpad
keys).

I'm a software engineer who switched over to Ubuntu on 11.04. My work
process immediately became more productive due to the combination of the
workspace/desktop switcher, the spinning wheel type alt-tab window
switcher and this grid plug-in.

I saved immense amounts of time placing each little debug/project/etc.
window from Eclipse in a different position on each of my two widescreen
monitors because of this plug-in.

To be candid, this is the deal breaker for me regarding sticking with
Ubuntu. If I can't get this functionality, Ubuntu as a solution doesn't
compete well with my alternatives.

Hell, I contemplated quitting my job to contribute to Compiz
development. I don't know how I'd make that work financially. Oops, off-
topic.

[Bug 933572] Re: default storage pool recreated every time it is deleted

2012-02-16 Thread Serge Hallyn
Libvirt is not doing this. It only happens when virt-manager is run.
I'm marking this as affecting virt-manager, confirmed (bc i reproduced
it), and low priority because it seems there is a workaround (simply use
a new storage pool) - please raise priority if that workaround doesn't
work for some reason.

[Bug 933626] [NEW] acpi-support should use ck-list-sessions to determine active X display and X user

2012-02-16 Thread Ayan George
Public bug reported:

The acpi-support scripts use 'ps' and 'who' output to determine the current
active X display and X user (in getXconsole and getXuser). Currently, LightDM
does not write to utmp so 'who' does not output the correct information
breaking getXconsole and getXuser.

ConsoleKit properly maintains the state of the console and probably
should be used instead.

I've attached a patch that re-implements getXconsole and getXuser by
calling ck-list-sessions.

Just to clarify, this also appears to be occurring with tooltips in
Firefox, although with these only the latest one continues to cast its
ghosted shadow.

The shadows appear above all other windows on all desktops.

[Bug 931606] Re: [needs packaging] Please upload seeks to Ubuntu Precise

2012-02-16 Thread Stefano Rivera
Sorry, I didn't have time to look at this today, and I'd want another
Ubuntu developer to look over it too (we require two Ubuntu dev ACKs for
new packages). It's a leaf package so a feature freeze exception should
be easy to organise. In fact, if we're doing that, let's get it into
Debian first.

--no-as-needed isn't ideal. Can we not fix the route cause?

It'd be nice to have a get-packaged-orig-source rule to generate the git
snapshot tarball

Lintian raises a few issues.

[Bug 933630] [NEW] Launcher doesn't auto-hide after using Super+1..9 shortcuts
