Is there a patch available yet?

[Bug 1050934] [NEW] VM stops receiving packets on heavy load from virtio network interface briged to a bonded interface on kvm hypervisor

2012-09-14 Thread ITec
Public bug reported:

Versions:
Ubuntu: 12.04.1 LTS
linux-server 3.2.0.30.32
bridge-utils 1.5-2ubuntu6
ifenslave-2.6 1.1.0-19ubuntu5
qemu-kvm 1.0+noroms-0ubuntu14.1
libvirt00.9.8-2ubuntu17.3
iperf2.0.5-2.1

Description:
I have got a typical setup for a kvm virtualizer with two network interfaces
bonded together and bridged for vm-use.
I.e. two ethernet interfaces eth2+eth4 bonded together with IEEE 802.3ad
Dynamic link aggregation to bond2.
bond2 is bridged to a bridge interface named brb2.
Then I have got kvm virtual machines attached with their interfaces to brb2 as
well.

When I test network performance (and generate heavy load) after a few
seconds, the bridge stops forwarding packets to the virtual machine
interface.

[Bug 959037] Re: NM-controlled dnsmasq prevents other DNS servers from starting

2012-09-14 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Yes, it is. I'll provide a package with a bunch of related changes from
Quantal; namely:

- using dbus instead of a config file;
- using a different dbus name than the default for dnsmasq;
- restarting dnsmasq less often (fixed in using dbus, basically)
- avoid refreshing interface config on every route cache entry notification;

etc.

dnsmasq will still need to be updated to ship the dbus file in dnsmasq-
base isntead of dnsmasq, and the biggest, most time-consuming issue is
that the dbus name changing patch needs to be adapted to apply to
Precise's dnsmasq.

I don't believe this is an obsolete file, but rather a deliberately non-

handled in postrm on purge, but its not clear if this test is meant to
test purging, or just basic upgrading.

[Bug 1051080] [NEW] lxc-start-ephemeral hangs if bind mounting nfs homedir

2012-09-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On Ubuntu 12.04.1, ephemeral containers seem to conflict with NFS home
directories.

The user's home directory is on a remote NFS server.
The original container is created with
  sudo lxc-create -t ubuntu -n foobar -- -r lucid --bindhome $LOGNAME
The ephemeral container is started with
  lxc-start-ephemeral -o foobar
The user logs in to the ephemeral container. This hangs.

After that, any reference to the home directory -- inside or outside of
the container -- seems to hang.

mount in the container shows:

none on / type overlayfs
(rw,relatime,lowerdir=/var/lib/lxc/buildhost2-ubu10,upperdir=/tmp/lxc-lp-v92y7NU)
none on /mnt/home/builder type overlayfs
(rw,relatime,lowerdir=/mnt/home/builder,upperdir=/var/lib/lxc/buildhost2-ubu10-temp-loNNGB5/ephemeralbind/mnt/home/builder)

mount outside the container shows:
obnas1a:/vol/homes/builder 419430400 362328576 57101824 87% /mnt/home/builder
But sometimes, mount outside the container shows nothing for /mnt/home/builder
after the problem happens.

This seems 100% repeatable.

[Bug 1050695] Re: gnome-panel does not obey icon theme

2012-09-14 Thread Tim
Oops I got confused with the ubuntu classic theme (sorry, I don't
normally use gnome classic). Closing as invalid

** Changed in: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Invalid

** Description changed:

on 3.5.91, gnome-panel is displaying ambiance/humanity status icons,
even though the icon theme is set to Adwaita.

- The icons in the status area are displayed in full colour and are from
- the Ambiance Theme, actually they should be from Adwaita icon them and
- symbolic.
-
- It seems like gnome-panel ships a full set of icons, however these are
- not included in the ubuntu package, so the fact they are full colour is
- probably either due to the icons simply being missing or otherwise
- perhaps related to this GTK bug 1044196.

Atleast in precise these icons used to (I havent checked recently)
  display correctly as symbolic icons.

isn't swap usage completely under the kernel control?
Anyway, if everything is running under the system doesn't it have possibility

updating Mesa to the latest upstream version (from PPA), I no longer get
the corruption in Precise. Quantal doesn't seem to have this issue

After some poking around, I think I've tracked down the cause of this
behavior.

When touching (but not pressing) a button, the kernel driver mostly
ignores the hardware event it receives. The out-of-prox logic is
triggered, and we send an event indicating the pad has left proximity.
The problem is that since the pad never *entered* proximity, it can
leave the X driver a little confused.

When a new packet comes in from the kernel, the X driver uses the serial
number to find the appropriate channel to store event data in. It then
updates the most-recent information in that channel with the packet data
and processes the result as an event. An excess out-of-prox event starts
from an empty state, causing the driver to ask the kernel for the tool
that is currently in proximity. If it finds something, an empty event is
sent for that tool, causing a momentary jump to the top-left corner.

There are two ways I see to fix this bug: a) have the kernel send an
(empty) in-prox event for button touches so the X driver doesn't get
confused, b) have the X driver ignore out-of-prox events for already
out-of-prox tools.

It seems glCopyPixels is modifying the context in a way that permanently
cripples later operations. The only possible cause I can see so far is:

src/mesa/main/drawpix.c: _mesa_CopyPixels:
/* We're not using the current vertex program, and the driver may install
* it's own. Note: this may dirty some state.
*/
   _mesa_set_vp_override(ctx, GL_TRUE);

This seems to set a flag in the ctx which is never cleared.

What are the read and draw buffers for glCopyPixels? If either of them
is GL_FRONT*, that will cause a DRI2 fake front buffer to be allocated
and thereafter kept up to date wrt the real front buffer.

This seems to set a flag in the ctx which is never cleared.

It is cleared:

end:

glCopyPixels should never be touched at all really.

P.S. _mesa_set_vp_override(ctx, GL_FALSE) does not clear NewState. Which
is what I was concerned about:

void
_mesa_set_vp_override(struct gl_context *ctx, GLboolean flag)
{
   if (ctx-VertexProgram._Overriden != flag) {
  ctx-VertexProgram._Overriden = flag;

/* Set one of the bits which will trigger fragment program

Rather the X server / DRI2 protocol. It *might* be possible to make
xserver not enforce the fake front buffer for the Composite Overlay
Window, not sure.

are avaiable (in a minimized stated) and I click on its launcher icon,
its window is empty.

A easier workaround for me than closing and restarting update-manager is
to just minimize it and then bringing it up again. Then its window
content is shown properly.

For me this seems to happen every time when there are updates avaiable.
My launcher is set to auto-hide, just to mention.

[Bug 940564] Re: [8400m] nvidia-graphics-drivers (295.33-0ubuntu1), is causing failed restarts. shutdowns only a blackscreen on tty's other than tty7

2012-09-14 Thread Kyle Auble
I just came across this report, and while I'm not having problems with
black screens or failed shut-downs so much, I have a similar set-up to
the original reporter: Nvidia 8400M GT, Core 2 Duo, and I've been having
problems with the GPU failing to activate (see Bug #1009312). It seems
to be happening at the actual kernel level very early in booting, not
the nvidia drivers.

I'm seeing a lot of similarities in the patterns here though: problem
seems to happen in cycles over multiple shutdowns, much better luck with
the 64bit version of Ubuntu and the kernel (comment #6 above), having to
revert to the VGA drivers (comment #12), some relation to power
management. I don't think my report is an exact duplicate of this (and I
think all kernel reports are supposed to be treated separately), but I
would be interested if anyone here is seeing something similar to what I
am. If anyone is, that could really help us narrow down what's going on.

And again, if you have a 64bit processor, you really might want to try
moving to the 64bit build of Ubuntu; when I was on the PAE kernel, GPU
problems were the norm, but since switching to the 64bit version, I've
only had one bad session over at least 10 reboots.

Each time I visit a site we use at my university to give out handouts etc. and
I log out or close the tab that page is being shown in, Firefox crashes.

I don't know how to get a crashdump or any other information about how and why
it crashes. The page is http://fronter.com/uit however you need login
credentials to get in there.

The reason I know it is that plugin is that I uninstalled it to see if that
helped. Firefox didn't crash but each time i went there it complained about me
not being able to chat because I lacked java.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to fronter.com/uit and log in
2. Log out or close that tab
Actual Results:
Firefox crashes

Expected Results:
That tab being closed, or me being logged out

It is also the case on my laptop so it isn't isolated to one machine.
