Since ChrootDir is not a default option, I think Medium priority is appropriate given the criteria listed at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance. [Bug 1251939] Re: Chroot fails with Cannot chroot when not started as root error
Thank you for reviewing this bug report and assigning the severity. While I agree with you on the assigned severity of Medium, I'd like to point out that though ChrootDir is not a default option, it relates to the security of apache server. I am not sure how many users simply use the server w/ default options, but I would guess many will do server hardening starting with chrooting. Hi Robie, Justification against https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#When: * severe regression bug: Package sasl2-bin is unusable after Upgrade from Lucid LTS to Precise LTS since saslauthd eats up 100% CPU on production mailservers when using rimap and needs regular restarts. saslauthd in Lucid LTS did work just fine with rimap. Check. Step 2) Ensure that the bug report for this issue is public. -- Yes, launchpad bug #997217 is public. [Bug 1251939] Re: Chroot fails with Cannot chroot when not started as root error
If you fix that, you also need to regenerate debian/patches/itk-rerun- configure.patch after the upstream patch has been applied . I have done that in the attached patch. I would recommend that you do that for saucy. This will also be fixed in 2.4.6-4, which will be uploaded to Debian soon. Therefore for trusty, there is probably no need for further action. ** Patch added: patch against 2.4.6-2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apache2/+bug/1251939/+attachment/3911233/+files/unixd-fix.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to apache2 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1251939 Title: Chroot fails with Cannot chroot when not started as root error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/apache2/+bug/1251939/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Daniel, Please could you elaborate on the test case? [Bug 997217] Re: salsauthd maxes cpu
I'm sorry to say, that there is no simple test case. The problem cannot be reproduced with simple instructions. You need to run saslauthd -a rimap for a few days in front of nginx-extras+dovecot IMAP and do a lot of imap logins to trigger the bug. But the bug is already fixed by the newer patch version of 0034-fix_dovecot_authentication.patch in 2.1.25.dfsg1-17. Some more system information: Precise nginx: mail01:~# dpkg -l nginx* |grep ^ii ii nginx-common 1.1.19-1ubuntu0.4 small, but very powerful and efficient web server (common files) ii nginx-extras 1.1.19-1ubuntu0.4 nginx web server with full set of core modules and extras Self-compiled known-to-be-working stable dovecot release 2.1.16: mail01:~# doveconf -n |head -2 # 2.1.16: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf # OS: Linux 3.2.0-56-generic x86_64 Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS Saslauthd ist running with following parameters, where 10.10.10.10 is the remote dovecot imap server: /usr/sbin/saslauthd -a rimap -O 10.10.10.10 -r -c -t 60 -m /var/run/saslauthd -n 5 In the meanwhile I took 0034-fix_dovecot_authentication.patch from the saucy package https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/amd64/sasl2-bin/2.1.25.dfsg1-17, updated the patch 0034-fix_dovecot_authentication.patch in the precise package and installed it on our servers. I'll run for a few days (or weeks) now, and see if the CPU problem goes away. If you want to test an official package update for precise, we can do so on one of the machines. Public bug reported: trying to upgrade from 12.10 using the graphical popup fails. also tried running from the shell, with same result Error message: Could not calculate the upgrade An unresolved problem occured while calculating the upgrade. This can be cause by * Upgrading to a pre-release of ubuntu * Running the current pre-release of Ubuntu * unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu If none of this applies, then please report this bug ising the command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in terminal. as far as I can see it tries to upgrade from 12.10 to 13.10, while many times when I've skipped upgrades it wanted to upgrade to the next version. [Bug 1160638] Re: usb printer works intermittently after upgrade to Precise
Not sure if this helps, but on my 64-bit ubuntu machine I was never able to print to my MF4150 printer, I could only scan with xsane. I tried many times over the years, with various ubuntu versions, and only recently, on Ubuntu 13.04 and after upgrading the Canon drivers to v2.70 I was able to print. I don't know if the cups update alone, or the driver update fixed the problem, but in any case I am very happy and thankful I am able to print after years of trying ! I upgraded to Saucy 13.10 and am still able to print and share the printer. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1160638 Title: usb printer works intermittently after upgrade to Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/1160638/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1215826] Re: Lost ability to remap Caps Lock to Ctrl
@Jimmy IMHO It seems that GNOME developers are going to make the most simple/stupid desktop environment today and in near future. [Bug 853244] Re: Acer Aspire 5742Z brightness keys not working
Hi! No, updating the BIOS didn't change anything at all. $ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date V1.30 08/13/2012 I tried both with the raring kernel (3.8.0-33-generic ) on my Precise system, and with a Trusty daily live CD, with the same results as usual. Summary: * The brightness keys make the brightness window pop up, but the brightness isn't changed at all. * Comment #22 from ag200spr does apply to me. So it is possible to change the brightness by e.g. # echo 123 /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness * If I boot with `acpi_osi=Linux` in the kernel command line, I can change the brightness, but the brightness window doesn't pop up. So fixing the problem should be easy, if some upstream developer was actually interested in this. [Bug 1248692] Re: just trying to upgrade 13.04 - 13.10
Thanks Brian for your quick answer! Not sure why you fixed it as invalid. I guess it's a technical matter. Though I had disabled all ppa, I was not able to upgrade to saucy. [Bug 1251991] [NEW] [13.10] 'xfce4-power-manager' should depend on 'systemd-shim'
Public bug reported: Hello, After updating from Ubuntu Quantla (12.10), my system (Dell XPS 12) would: 1. attempt to suspend when lid is clised (even though this behavior is disabled in 'xfce4-power-manager' settings); see bug #1222021 2. fail to suspend altogether when called from XFCE's 'Log Out - Suspend' button Even though: a. 'pm-suspend '(as root) works flawlessly = suspend/resume works b. 'dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.UPower /org/freedesktop/UPower org.freedesktop.UPower.Suspend' (as user) works flawlessly = DBus works I finally tracked it down to the package 'systemd-shim' being missing from my system. I recovered a flawllesly working XFCE's suspend/hibernate/resume behavior by: A . Installing 'systemd-shim' (which apparently installs the glue between XFCE's power manager, DBus and 'systemd' B. Inihibiting 'systemd' behavior (which overrides/bypasses 'xfce4 -power-manager'; see bug #1222021); in '/etc/systemd/logind.conf': HandlePowerKey=ignore HandleSuspendKey=ignore HandleHibernateKey=ignore HandleLidSwitch=ignore C. Addind the new 'logind'-related policies for hibernation; in '/etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/hibernate.pkla': [EnableHibernate:LoginD] Identity=unix-user:* Action=org.freedesktop.login1.hibernate ResultActive=yes ResultAny=no Unless I'm mistaken, 'systemd-shim' should be added as a dependency of 'xfce4-power-manager' to avoid some scenari stumbling o the same issue I did.
