[Bug 1275236] Re: rsync backport 3.1.0 for saucy?
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You have two options here. 1) Request a backport, following the process described at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports. If you want to do this, you can proceed by changing the bug task for this bug to saucy-backports. Ask on #ubuntu-bugs on Freenode if you need help with this. 2) Request a stable release update to fix the specific bug with a minimal patch. In this case, please change this bug's title to match the actual bug being fixed, and follow the process described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates Note that both of these options do need some developer input. Volunteers welcome. Marking this bug Incomplete, as it isn't clear to me how you want to proceed. Please transform this bug into the sort of bug you want to track this issue as I described above, and then change the bug status back to New. ** Changed in: rsync (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to rsync in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1275236 Title: rsync backport 3.1.0 for saucy? [Bug 739495]
2009 ? This bug is rather young, I am sure at least 10 years is mandatory to have something as complex as this integrated... There are even patchs attached without even a comment on them. As far as I can tell user interface is clearly not the focus of either OpenSSL or OpenSSH, just take a look at the OpenSSL api if you need convincing. The funny thing is that if security is the concern here this is stupid since users will do things that may open a real security risk instead of relying on a proven built in Include which could just apply the same rules it uses when loading the main .ssh/config. What is preventing this from getting in ??? This a really helpful feature if you want to work with generated files without destroying you main config file. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/739495 Title: include in .ssh/config To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/openssh/+bug/739495/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1276156] [NEW] CVE-2013-6393 libyaml: heap-based buffer overflow when parsing YAML tags
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1033990 A heap-based buffer overflow flaw was found in the way libyaml parsed YAML tags. [Bug 1276414] [NEW] Panic or segfault in Samba
Public bug reported: The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action, was called for PID 8302 (/usr/sbin/smbd). This means there was a problem with the program, such as a segfault. [Bug 1272115] Re: [SRU] cloud-init SmartOS datasource provider is not compliant to datadictionary
What effect will this have on users who *are* relying on the current behaviour? The effect will be minimial, if any. SmartOS has the concept of user- data, which is a channel for sending raw data. In the case of cloud- init, users would be more likely to be confused by something acting on the data. By having cloud-init follow the documented use-case, cloud- init becomes functional. Further, I would argue that if cloud-init is acting on user-data, there is actually a danger depending on the payload of the user-data. For example, if the user-data payload is a destructive script that is supposed to be run by something other than cloud-init it could result in system failure. Given that we introduced SmartOS recently wtih 13.10, the impact here will be minimial. There is no public cloud vendor that is currently using cloud-init. Finally, this change was requested by the SmartOS upstream maintainers. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cloud-init in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1272115 Title: [SRU] cloud-init SmartOS datasource provider is not compliant to datadictionary To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/1272115/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 846407] Re: xrdp is not able to transmitt unity desktop correct - different clients
Same Problem as stated by Wangzi in #34 the session=gnome-fallback workaroud does not work anymore with 13.10 + and does not seem to come back in 14.04. This xfce4 solution works, however slow and crappy, and not in a unity desktop: sudo apt-get install xfce4 xrdp echo xfce4-session ~/.xsession sudo service xrdp restart My questions: What is the preferred Ubuntu (Unity) (cross-platform) remote desktop connection? This was always one of the strongest features of UNIX-like operated machines... I'm still lost in Ubuntu's complexity. Can anyone out there give a summary how to get into the particular code of this? What happened to ubuntu-2d? Quite embarrassing, isn't it? This bug is discussed since 2011... I just tried upgrading because 12.04 told me at some point must-have 14.04. I will roll back to 12.04 and stay with it until I'm convinced that an upgrade pays off. [Bug 1276061] [NEW] Progress of checking for updates is indeterminate
Public bug reported: 1. Open System Settings Updates to check for updates. What happens: Progress is shown with an indeterminate spinner. What should happen: Ideally, progress is shown in a determinate way. Barry Warsaw in bug 1272313: Checking for whether an update is available is a complicated, multi-step process. For example, there are potentially 4 gpg keyring files that must be present, but only one that is shipped with the image, so the 'check for update available' process must be able to backtrack and download any missing keys. So the first step in fixing this is to tabulate the steps involved: | Step | Probability the step is required at all | Distribution of time it takes | Then assign to me for design. ** Affects: ubuntu-system-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Barry Warsaw (barry) Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1276061 Title: Progress of checking for updates is indeterminate To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-system-settings/+bug/1276061/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1272313] Re: There is no way to stop a check for update for ubuntu images
If checking for an update is a multi-step process, that's excellent news, because it means the progress display can be determinate rather than just a spinner. Like the ability to stop, I guess that would require an extra dbus method to ask how far through are you right now. Reported bug 1276061 for that. [Bug 1276064] [NEW] Installer silently ignores preseed directives
Public bug reported: I'm trying to perform a fully automated installation of Ubuntu server on 100 Dell C8220s, by PXE booting the installer ISO then feeding it a preseed file over http using kernel cmdline params including (among others) url=http://myserver/path/ubuntu.preseed DEBCONF_DEBUG=5 I'm unable to defeat certain prompts; it appears as if the preseed values are simply being ignored. This is a showstopper to Ubuntu deployment at scale; we cannot tolerate any interactivity whatsoever with 100 servers. When (if) this works, it will expand to even more servers. I've been banging my head against this for some time now, so I can supply a wide variety of preseed files that don't work, but which I think should work. I'll attach the more interesting ones to this report shortly. 1. Ubuntu release: Precise, using ubuntu-12.04.3-alternate-amd64.iso 2. Package version: whichever version of {debian,ubuntu}-installer or kickseed is included with the above ISO. 3. What I expect to happen: 3.1. Preseed directives shall either work, or fail in a debuggable way Preseed configuration directives generated by debconf-get-selections --installer file, when this file is edited and fed back into the Ubuntu installation, shall either: 3.1.a. Do what I want them to do; or 3.1.b. Output comprehensible diagnostics on tty4, explaining why they did not work. For example, if I have the wrong owner name (not eg 'd-i'), the wrong directive name, the wrong type, or a unavailable value, tty4 shall show a diagnostic explaining which of these is the case. 3.2. The selections output by debconf-get-selections --installer shall reflect the choices I made in an interactive installation, to enable me to reproduce a previous manual installation. 4. What actually happens 4.1. In many (but not all) cases, preseed directives neither work, nor output any explanation as to why they did not work that is visible to me. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places - is tty4 not the right place? 4.2. debconf-get-selections --installer outputs great loads of stuff, which bears only a vague relation to choices I made during manual install. For example, the output contains: # Choices: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Congo\, The Democratic Republic of the, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania\, United Republic of, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Western Sahara, Zambia, Zimbabwe d-i localechooser/countrylist/Africaselect This is pointless; it won't defeat any interactive prompting, as it's missing a value. So there's no point including it in the output. It's just noise. Also, I already told the installer I'm in Oceania, so I was never prompted for a country in Africa. This directive thus has nothing to do with what I choe in the interactive install. On the other hand, the output also contains: partman-lvm partman-lvm/vgcreate_parts multiselect It appears to have forgotten that I selected /dev/sda1 as the sole LVM PV during the interactive install - the value is missing. Again, without the value, this directive doesn't do anything useful. I could accept this type of output if I had said 'debconf-get-selections --installer --all', ie asking for a sort of preseed template containing every possible directive. But I didn't (one can't). I currently think that rather than using a preseed file, it would be easier to make my own initrd which executes cfdisk/pvcreate/vgcreate/lvcreate/mkfs/mkswap/mount/debootstrap the way I want. That's pretty sad - it's easier to write one's own installer than to figure out how to configure the existing installer. ** Affects: kickseed (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1276064 Title: Installer silently ignores preseed directives To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kickseed/+bug/1276064/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1276072] [NEW] Language selection always falls back to English
Public bug reported: I upgraded two amd64 computers from 13.04 to 13.10, and discovered on both that the language is set to English (whereas I selected French language at the beginning of the upgrade). Moreover, each time I set it back to French, dragging both French (France and Canada) and some English (UK US) on top of the default English in the language selection list, default English comes back on top at next login. I even tried to modify my .pam_environment (in console mode) and the /etc/environment to set fr_FR as the default, no way: gnome-language- selector seems to force default English as default at each connection! Hopefully, I do understand English, but this is turning me mad. [Bug 1276064] Re: Installer silently ignores preseed directives
Another analogous problem with this preseed: although I attempt to enable root logins, and I attempt to defeat creation of a non-root user, and even though in desperation I have set a full name and username for the non-root user (both 'deleteme'), I am still prompted for a full name and username for the user. It's like the 'user-setup-udeb passwd/username string deleteme' and 'user-setup-udeb passwd/user-fullnamestring deleteme' directives don't do anything whatsoever - and again there's no indication why. I could work around this by enabling root logins and deleting the user in a late command, but I shouldn't have to do that. In other preseeds (to be attached), these exact same directives *do* defeat creation of a non-root user. So it's not as simple as these directives always getting ignored. Something other mystery factor controls whether they do anything or not, and the installer's not telling me what that mystery factor is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1276064 Title: Installer silently ignores preseed directives To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kickseed/+bug/1276064/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1276064] Re: Installer silently ignores preseed directives
FWIW I get better results using a RedHat-style Kickstart file, with ks=http://blah, instead of a preseed file. But analogously, I cannot seem to defeat the prompt about over-writing an existing LVM configuration. Therefore I theorise this is not a problem with the pressed parser and kickstart parser separately, but is instead a problem with the honouring of the parsed directives, after the parse step is done and the difference between preseed and kickstart is irrelevant.

[Bug 1059827] Re: Non trivial grub2 installs no longer fit in small embed areas
Sorry, I did get a little confused over the sectors thing. The 63rd LBA sector is the starting point for the 0MB boundary of partitions usually. I wasn't thinking straight. I'm used to using the MB settings for partitioning instead. Anyhow, the normal Grub2 install for any partition that's not BtrFS can fit into the MBR area with no problem normally. However, a larger area is required if you're going to use a BtrFS partition since the data on how to read such a partition in Grub2 makes the boot program a bit larger than the MBR size. Recall that I said Core.img is particularly large. I'll have to check on my installation to see where I had to start it at later. But it is a problem that should be addressed or at least warned about in the installation. As for the installation report, it should mention that Grub2 failed to install properly and should return to the partitioning step to address the issue. Highlighting the issue may also be beneficial to users. However, with newer hard drives, they utilize 4K sector sizes to increase capacity. This should be taken into account in case the 512b emulation ceases. It's known as Advanced Format and can be a pain in the rear if you're not already familiar with it. This will make 256 sectors equal to 1 MB instead. Anyhow, I'll be sure to check on how I've managed to install BtrFS and where my partitions start and end so that I can toss together a sort of guideline for failsafes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to a duplicate bug report (1266195). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1059827 Title: Non trivial grub2 installs no longer fit in small embed areas To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1059827/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
