[Bug 1318317] [NEW] openipmi startup script removes kernel modules
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I need some IPMI kernel modules, so I load them during startup. This worked quite well until I upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04. As you can see I have the modules in /etc/modules: # grep ipmi /etc/modules ipmi_watchdog ipmi_devintf ipmi_poweroff ipmi_si Right after reboot, the modules are there: # lsmod |grep -i ipm ipmi_si53257 2 ipmi_poweroff 14366 0 ipmi_devintf 17572 0 ipmi_watchdog 24912 0 but disappear after a few seconds/minute. I found out, that the cause is the /etc/init.d/openipmi script. The behaviour of the script is quite strange because a stop/start will behave differently then a restart. I loaded the modules manually using modprobe: ipmi_si53257 2 ipmi_poweroff 14366 0 ipmi_devintf 17572 0 ipmi_watchdog 24912 0 when I execute: # service openipmi stop the module ipmi_devintf gets removed: ipmi_si53257 2 ipmi_poweroff 14366 0 ipmi_watchdog 24912 0 starting the service again with: # service openipmi start will remove ALL IPMI kernel modules: # lsmod |grep -i ipm # One of the reasons seems to be the module ipmi_msghandler. This is already integrated and causes some of the problems. When I remove it from /etc/init.d/openipmi like this: 65,66c65 #MODULES_BASE=ipmi_msghandler MODULES_BASE= --- MODULES_BASE=ipmi_msghandler 325,326c324,325 # modprobe ipmi_msghandler /dev/null 21 # modules_loaded ipmi_msghandler --- modprobe ipmi_msghandler /dev/null 21 modules_loaded ipmi_msghandler stoping and starting the service works again. But restarting the service will still remove all modules and will not load them anymore. ** Affects: openipmi (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- openipmi startup script removes kernel modules https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318317 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openipmi in Ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1300507] Re: Rabbit password is reset on every upgrade which forces lockstep cluster restarts
The MAAS config file gets changed by the packaging because at the time MAAS did not support conf.d/ (and it does not currently support it either). The packaging updates the config file (which it actually shouldn't be doing, but it was the only way of solving the problem). The problem was that if we were providing a new config quite constantly, which meant that a new config file needed to be installed replacing the older config, causing upgrades to fail because there was no way to obtain the old password. This is not a simple packaging fix, at least, at the time it wasn't and it required lots of hacky things (since we were doing things we werent supposed by policy anyway) Now, as I have expressed before, the Region needs to be able to notify the Clusters about its password changes. It doesn't matter who changes the password here, whether it is the user directly or the packaging, the issue still remains and this should be fixed in MAAS and not just go for a quick fix in packaging. This is a bug in MAAS. ** Also affects: maas Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: maas Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: maas Importance: Undecided = Critical -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to maas in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1300507 Title: Rabbit password is reset on every upgrade which forces lockstep cluster restarts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1300507/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1347147] [NEW] krb5 database propagation enters infinite loop
Public bug reported: In some conditions, propagating a kerberos database to a slave KDC server can stall. This is due to a misoptimization by gcc 4.8 of the CIRCLEQ famliy of macros, apparently due to overzealous strict aliasing deductions. One case of this stall is reported at http://mailman.mit.edu/pipermail/kerberos/2014-July/020007.html (and the rest of the thread), and there is an entry in the upstream bugtracker at http://krbdev.mit.edu/rt/Ticket/Display.html?id=7860 . gcc 4.9 (as used in Debian unstable at present) is not believed to induce this problem. Upstream has patched their code to use the TAILQ family of macros instead, as a workaround, but that workaround has not yet appeared in an upstream release: https://github.com/krb5/krb5/commit/26d8744129 Because of the different compiler versions used on Debian and Ubuntu, I am filing this as an Ubuntu-specific bug. ** Affects: krb5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to krb5 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1347147 Title: krb5 database propagation enters infinite loop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/krb5/+bug/1347147/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

This can be very disruptive to a user's workflow. [Test case] 1. Install virt-manager. 2. Make sure no other windows are open. 3. Start virt-manager. virt-manager should start in the top left. I assume this happens with windows that want to resize themselves if their height exceeds the display resolution. Reproducable on my 1366x768 screen with LibreOffice and a Qt 5 desktop application I'm working on. [Bug 353449] Re: lyx 1.6.x impossibly slow
I just changed from the proprietary ATI driver to Radeon (as a result of switching to kernel 3.16) and this bug now affects me. I'm pretty sure its the driver. I'm also using compiz. Not sure why LyX is so slow when other apps aren't, but a multi-Ghz machine should be able to keep up with how fast I can type. Isn't it funny how hardware is at a blazing speed, but the useable speed is roughly the same as a few decades ago. Infact, I think my Atari ST could open windows faster than my Ubuntu box. Possible Workaround. If using Compiz, load ccsm and see if the Copy To Texture plugin is on. If so, see if turning it off helps. It seems to work for me. I'm wondering if LyX isn't reporting what part of the screen was damaged properly or something like that and its causing compiz to copy the whole window to the texture instead of just the damaged area. This would explain why a smaller window helps. I'm betting the bug only recently hit me either because the fglrx driver has a hardware speed-up for copy to texture or because I didn't have the Copy turned on before (I had to reconfigure a few things when I switched). [Bug 1346766] [NEW] Chinese in Ubuntu Touch should use Heiti style sans serif font
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Touch uses Kaiti style font as the main UI font for displaying Chinese, which is not optimal as nowadays operating systems all use Heiti style font for the UI, we should really change it asap. Currently there are two choices on Ubuntu, fonts-droid and wqy-microhei. Below I will list out the pros and cons. I am not too much in favour of using wqy-microhei, the reason being that it is basically a font that based on the Droid font (DroidSansFallbackFull.ttf to be exact). Upstream has not updated wqy- microhei for long time, so it lacks any new updates from the Droid font, although it may not be obvious to users. Advantage of wqy-microhei being its wider codepoint coverage, for example it also contains Japanese Kanas and Korean Hanguls in one font, the downside is it may be of lower quality than DroidSansFallbackFull.ttf due to its lack of maintenance in recent years. Another option is DroidSansFallbackFull.ttf, which is in the fonts-droid package. The advantage is it has coverage of CJK ext. A [1], which wqy- microhei does not provide. On the other hand, wqy-microhei has added some glyphs that the droid font does not provide, I don't have the exact number of that but I believe it's just a small number. The disadvantage is it does not include Korean Hangul, which can be remedied with another Korean font, and it's not our current concern anyway. Another possible disadvantage of wqy-microhei is it includes more latin characters, which may result to inconsistent glyphs being used. [Bug 1305175] Re: openssl 1.0.1f 'ssl handshake failure' connection failure
Warning: Both RC4 and MD5 are INSECURE. They are susceptible to practical attacks. Do not use them. MD5 is already disabled by default. Real collisions have been produced, and used to forge certificates in the wild; its use as an HMAC is also strongly discouraged. It must never be used. RC4 (both RC4-MD5, RC4-SHA and other RC4 ciphers) is a very old stream cipher. It is thought some adversaries can already break it in real- time; in the public literature, several serious weaknesses have already been found (and at the time of writing, another one is on the way). An RFC will shortly be published - see https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft- popov-tls-prohibiting-rc4-02 - entirely prohibiting the use of all RC4 ciphersuites in all circumstances. Some browsers are already in the process of turning it off. Please see the results at: - https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=centinel1000.cardinalcommerce.com - https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=inaturalist.org which indicate that these sites have deep problems with their encryption. centinel1000.cardinalcommerce.com seems to be run from an outdated Windows Server 2003 using IIS/6.0 (which hits end-of-life in about a year). It only offers insecure ciphersuites RC4-MD5 RC4-SHA, and only over SSLv3 (it is intolerant of modern TLS 1.2 connections). You will see from the results that current versions of all mainstream browsers already refuse to connect to it, and in particular I must be clear it is NOT A BUG that curl and wget also refuse to do so - that is correct behaviour and should be regarded as bad as if it offered only 'export' ciphers. Its encryption is exploitably bad: I would consider it in breach of PCI requirements. inaturalist.com does not support TLS 1.2, uses RC4 (insecure) in preference to other ciphersuites, and offers 1024-bit DHE which is insecure. IE11 does the best it can there and connects with TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA (0x2f); this is susceptible to BEAST, but not as bad as the above. The problem being reported by curl is that inaturalist.com is intolerant of TLS 1.2. This is also NOT A BUG with the client, but is a bug with the server. Some browsers retry with lower protocol versions automatically (and should use the downgrade SCSV to indicate this, as this is otherwise behaviour exploitable by an attacker); curl and wget do not. It is strongly likely that future versions of TLS libraries will completely ignore requests to use these ciphersuites: libReSSL disables it, and I think BoringSSL might too. At best, this is a stop-gap measure, but you should be aware the problem does not lie with you here. I suggest you contact the respective sites' security departments to inform them their encryption is weak. As this does not seem to be a bug in the client, I suggest closing this one. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1305175 Title: openssl 1.0.1f 'ssl handshake failure' connection failure To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+bug/1305175/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Another possible disadvantage of wqy-microhei is it includes more latin characters, which may result to inconsistent glyphs being used. + Just a few days ago, Google released the Noto Sans CJK fonts. The + advantage of Noto is it takes care of different writing standard of + Traditional and Simplified Chinese. As a result the total file size is + much bigger. [Bug 1346776] [NEW] Server certificate creation crashes without subjectAltName
Public bug reported: This is my first bug report with Ubuntu, so apologies if I'm going about this the wrong way. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Release 14.04), and am trying to create a server certificate using easy-rsa version 2.2.2-1. The commands I used to create the certificate were: sudo apt-get install easy-rsa cp -r /usr/share/easy-rsa ~ cd ~/easy-rsa vim ./vars (edit KEY_* defaults) source ./vars ./clean-all ./build-dh ./pkitool --initca ./pkitool --server my-common-name On the last command, I receive the following error: Using Common Name: my-common-name Error Loading extension section server 140532105823904:error:2207507C:X509 V3 routines:v2i_GENERAL_NAME_ex:missing value:v3_alt.c:537: 140532105823904:error:22098080:X509 V3 routines:X509V3_EXT_nconf:error in extension:v3_conf.c:93:name=subjectAltName, value=my-common-name In ./vars I only adjusted the default values for KEY_COUNTRY, KEY_PROVINCE, KEY_CITY, KEY_ORG, KEY_EMAIL, KEY_OU to suit my situation, and at the end of the file uncommented the KEY_CN name and set to the value of my-common-name. Upon checking the openssl-1.0.0.cnf file on line 220, the subjectAltName variable in the [server] section seems to be set from the KEY_ALTNAMES environmental variable. However, exporting this variable to either a blank or non-blank value before running ./pkitool seems to make no difference. I did notice that by commenting out line 220, the ./pkitool then creates a server certificate without issue. While it's easy enough to simply comment this line before running ./pkitool, but the end goal here is to automate the certificate creation using puppet, so it would be great to have the default openssl-1.0.0.cnf configuration work from environmental variables out of the box. Of course if I'm missing something, please let me know! ** Affects: easy-rsa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: easy-rsa pkitool subjectaltname -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1346776 Title: Server certificate creation crashes without subjectAltName To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/easy-rsa/+bug/1346776/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1346783] [NEW] Dialogs set no parent, leading to pop-under dialogs that are hard to find
Public bug reported: Some dialogs (e.g. UbuntuClickDialog) are modal but set no parent. This leads window managers like unity to not do correct stacking. The dialog can pop under the main window and become invsible (except for showing up in the taskbar). The main window is not responding anymore (of course) because of the modal dialog. The impression for the user is that the app has crashed/become unresponsive. Looking at the code it seems a bunch of QMessageBox::warning(0,...) instead of Core::ICore::mainWindow() is used (but only some, not all). I don't know if there is a reason for this, I changed it to use the main window as parent in the attached branch and did a testbuild that works for me. ** Affects: qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Branch linked: lp:~mvo/qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu/dialog-parents -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1346783 Title: Dialogs set no parent, leading to pop-under dialogs that are hard to find To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu/+bug/1346783/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

With my LyX developer hat on: It is known indeed that LyX has problems with the way display is handled. Unfortunately, nobody is has the right amount of knowledge and free time to fix that currently. I would be interested to know what happens if you add to your preferences file (usually in the ~/.lyx directory) the line: \use_qimage false This will make LyX use a Pixmap (that lives in the display server) instead of an image which lives in main memory. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353449 Title: lyx 1.6.x impossibly slow To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lyx/+bug/353449/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
